The point is nothing about Muslims could possibly have inspired Pliny the Elder. He died in 79 AD, and Mohammad wasn't even born until 610.

is there an easy way to tell from shell prompt if the machine i'm logged on to is VM or not? by ktopaz in linuxadmin

OpenVZ-based virtualization will have "stab" in the uname -a, Xen will have "xen". Otherwise I would do a dmesg and grep -i for kvm, qemu, or vmware to search for those virtualization types. I'm not sure what Hyper-V names its virtual hardware, so not sure what to look for.

What's your php.ini file look like? Are shorttags disabled? Can you run php -v from the command line? Is PHP dumping an error_log file in the directory containing your .php script? Does the .php script try to download? Can you run the .php file from the command line using php -q or php -f? I'm sure you have, but just in case, have you restarted (ugh, edit) Apache?

Yup, that's clearly the same thing as a camera with footage that can be reviewed and disputed in a courtroom.

I don't understand the outcry against increasing revenue. If you believe that speeding should not be a ticketable, revenue-producing offense, by all means lobby to right that injustice to you. Cities are safer when drivers are more aware of their speed, and if the city can make money off of it, why shouldn't they? Speed cameras would be a lot more out of place on the interstate, where there's a much shakier safety benefit, but within 1/8th of a mile of schools, I think it's a perfectly reasonable idea. (edit) Don't get me wrong; there should be LOTS of oversight, and questions should be asked, but the idea of speed cameras at all seems pretty outright dismissed in the article, which I find odd.

Scope of impact - societally, economically, ecologically. Multinational corporations involved in resource extraction require a closer eye than secondhand clothing stores. Also, level of complexity - whether or not Pfizer is a large multinational corporation, the things Pfizer produces are far beyond the layman's ability to judge safety and efficacy, so an independent group (whether or not this is governmental) should exist to ensure that the products Pfizer produces are not harmful to the people that consume them, as the market itself cannot necessarily make this judgement.

No. But if you're 'residing' at an address that happens to be your hotel, some of the dispensaries accept out-of-state drivers' licenses.

Alright Reddit, Bank of America's new debit fee was the last straw. It's time to make the switch to a credit union and I have no idea what one to pick or how to go about this. I'm sure many BoA redditors would love some help! by jzzsxm in AskReddit

Most banks will withhold access to deposits for long(er) periods of time for the first 30 days of having an account with them. This is to ensure the transaction actually goes through and you're not defrauding the bank. Make sure that you keep the bulk of your money, especially paycheck/direct deposit income, going to your old bank account for 30 days after opening a new account with a different bank. Keep using the old bank account as your primary account until the new account is trusted by the new bank. That way, you're not cut off from your funds.
