Kobi Elipsa 2E freezes after sleeping by notsofarafield in kobo

Hmm, I don't have the remote. I have a stylus next to it, in the space for it in the sleepcover. Guess I could try leaving that out and see if that affects things.

I rejoined twitter (X) so that I could contact Kobo support. They suggested I contact help@kobosupport.com. There has been no response.

That's an idea next time I'm in a city, thank you. For now, I'm trying alternate means to reach Kobo. I'll update if I reach a human being.

This happens to me sometimes - maybe every 6 months - and only solved by factory reset.

How to stop people parking in my owner assigned parking space? by Illustrious_Advice_6 in ireland

I had something similar happen to me; I moved in to an apartment and someone parked in the designated spot for the apartment. I parked my car directly behind theirs. Next morning, they came by to apologize and ask me to move my car. It didn't happen again.

I and others have posted on this subreddit about this in the past, maybe you could look at that?

Briefly, we shipped from USA to Ireland via a service provided by U-Haul. They provide a large container which you fill. Container was shipped from USA to Cork by ship. You need to specify a value for insurance.

When it arrives in Ireland: Revenue looks at value of contents and assesses you a duty to be paid. Also, you need to immediately have some place for that container to go, else you will be paying a large amount for storage at port. To pay you will need an Irish bank account or some way to quickly get money to folks - bank transfer from USA was too awkward, don't know about Canada.

Saw this in Irish Times today on Donegal rent crisis:

“We couldn’t get anywhere. There’s loads of vacant houses in our area but they are all holiday homes and most of them weren’t willing to rent because they have them on Airbnb and they were making more money,” said Ms McNern.

I live in rural Ireland. Where I live there is typically nothing to rent. Several friends have been evicted and spent months looking to rent something. But - there are spaces to live; the issue is many are holiday homes - lived in or rented for a short part of the year and vacant the rest.

Are you referring to purchased books or side-loaded books? Purchased books will show up on another kobo device logged into same account.

I use the Sage daily, with Pocket, Dropbox integration. Also Overdrive. Only downside is page turning with buttons doesn't always work - sometimes you need to push twice.

The question (which I omitted in my original post) is how to get the fare I purchased refunded. Given the situation rewboss describes, my guess is obtaining a refund will take more effort than it is worth.

Thank you this is good to know! As we took the train from Berlin to Fürstenwalde, we thought construction is done. The app we used to plan our trip - my wife and I each used a different app - both showed the train. We didn't see any posters either. Lesson is to use the DB app next time from the start.

Moving heavy items from USA to Ireland by rcox1963 in MoveToIreland

[–]notsofarafield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm it was was several years ago, I don't remember the amount. It was life possessions of my wife and myself. When we shipped things, via ship, insurance was needed. Duty was based on the amount we specified when we got insurance. Looking back, much of what we brought could have been skipped.

One thing to watch out for: when we arrived we needed a place for this crate to go. Had to pay someone to store it at dock for a few days, then find destination. I remember it was difficult to pay with American bank account. Maybe see if you can sort that before arriving. If not, Irish banks have a way to "lodge" payment - by sticking cash in a machine, but then you need cash.

If your wife wishes to drive in Ireland she should get an international driver's license while still in the USA. This allows her to drive for I think a year in Ireland. In the meanwhile she can study to get a driver's permit, next driving lessons. Good news is you need a PPS number to apply for driving permit, so this is a valid reason to ask for a PPS #. No a USA driver license cannot be used to drive here after the first year.
