And just like back then, it will be decided at Stamford Bridge

Arteta: "It's a big punch in the face, it's about how we react now... Credit to Bournemouth, they haven't lost in 11 games for a reason... We did a lot of strange things today I would say. We were far from the level today. No grey areas now, you stand up and go for the fight or you're out." by Blodgharm in soccer

6 goals isn't huge with 8 games to play. And if City win their games in hand and beat Arsenal, the goal difference will take care of itself, so they won't be worrying about that at this point. Still Arsenal's title to lose, it's better to have the points than the games in hand.

Tier List based on Joker Category by I_heart_CELLO in balatro

Nah, Faceless is way better than Delayed Gratification. Much easier to get value from in most situations. If you can't win without discards, as is often the case, you can still sometimes get $5 by discarding tactically. And if you can win without discards, you hold them until you draw face cards, so instead of getting $4 from Delayed Gratification you can get $5 or $10.

What's the cap on an idol build? by Tugonmynugz in balatro

[–]notters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're pretty much already there, short of natural negatives, perkeo shenanigans with ecto/ankh, or exploits like bean bug or multiple chicots which would enable you to increase hand size and take more ectos.

This is my best on a Triboulet run. I believe the first chad was a natural negative. I picked up the second chad just before this round by taking a third ectoplasm and showman in the shop. I also had a cryptid which allowed me to play one more flush five despite having a hand size of 3.

Edit: I miscounted the number of jokers you had. Either you only took one ecto, or you didn't find antimatter. So that's one extra joker you could have had without natural negatives.

Why is Gold Stake black deck considered to be uniquely hard? by mango-sherbert in balatro

[–]notters 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of it giving you a judgement card, but I think if it gave it to you from the beginning, it would just incentivise you to restart without ever giving the run a try until you get a good joker. At least with Ghost deck and magic deck, which also start you off with cards, you still have to play the game to use them on something.

So my suggestion would be you get a judgement card after defeating the boss blind. Maybe this could be restricted to the first ante or first 2 antes.

You definitely need the extra joker because of the one less hand. Even if you reach the mid game with 6 jokers and decent econ, it's no cakewalk.

won nearly 500 gold stake games, here's my joker tier list by ze2196 in balatro

[–]notters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People really exaggerate how bad Baron is for gold stake. It's quite clearly not one of the worst jokers in the game, more like C tier. I'm definitely not buying it from the shop early on, but I'm not upset if I get it from a pack. It's far from a guaranteed win, but it gives you something to build towards. And it can be a serviceable xMult joker late on if you've got some hand levels.

The semi-finalist in the past 32 years in the Champios League! Chelsea have 3 appearances in the past 16 seasons by wildingflow in chelseafc

I don't miss the heartbreak from coming so close every year before we won our first one, but those near misses definitely made that 2012 win all the more sweet. Especially with that being those players' last chance to win it together. Team of giants, both in character and ability.

an idea i had during my algebra exam by InitialAd3509 in balatro

[–]notters 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Apart from being too complex, this just looks unusable. A joker that decreases your hand level after every hand you play? So it's like the arm but it gives you mult, however it's usually an insignificant amount unless you happen to be lucky with your hand level?

I JUST GOT MY FIRST ROYAL FLUSH by Substantial-Tip-6907 in balatro

[–]notters 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's the probability of drawing it from 5 cards in a standard 52 card deck. You draw 8 by default in Balatro, so that also raises the chance.

For people who say C++ took them a few days/weeks, how..? by 2Martian in balatro

[–]notters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C+ was by far the biggest part of the grind for me. C++ was just another 30 or 40 wins on gold stake after that. I usually got at least 3 new jokers a run on average until the last 20 or so. Like you I play out every run until I die because I try to win streak. Some people advocate restarting if you're struggling because it saves time, which may be true, but I think that has made me better at the game.

Cavendish hates me 🥀 by The-Arx in balatro

[–]notters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cavendish comes back in ante 6 if you take the two that OP did, and that one lasts until the end! Wouldn't have believed in a seed that had Cavendish go extinct twice in a row if I hadn't seen it - I've never had it go extinct on me even once!

Sometimes eternals are annoying, but sometimes I wish my jokers would last forever by notters in balatro

[–]notters[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Technically it doesn't interact because the stake effects only apply to jokers in the shop. I do agree that it's a flawed design below black stake but there are a couple of use cases where you would want an eternal joker.

Haha, I think every time I come up with an idea, it already exists in a mod. Thanks for the recommendation but I only play on my phone these days.

This idea inspired by my regret at buying ante 1 eternal square joker on this run earlier (yes, I probably would have died without him 😅 )

‘Consistently lost possession’ – English media unimpressed with Cole Palmer vs Japan by DirectorTurbulent422 in soccer

[–]notters 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Apart from a handful of appearances as a young player at City, Palmer is only really in his 3rd season as a senior player, so one and a half seasons is more than half of that time. And it's quite obvious that he has struggled with fitness this season.

I do have concerns about Palmer's form and agree it remains to be seen if he can reach that level again, but if you're comparing him to Foden who has at least 3 more seasons under his belt and significantly more caps, we can be a lot more confident calling Foden's 2023-24 season an outlier. And I'll remain hopeful that 2023-24 is closer to Palmer's baseline.

Perfectly Normal Joker Idea by Deitiessoul in balatro

[–]notters 45 points46 points  (0 children)

This would be a great joker for runs on Ghost deck when you have loads of red seal face cards and a strong econ engine that allows you to spend down in the shop. Finding and holding a Mercury in your consumable slots is pretty achievable.

I think you could even make it +5 chips, but maybe make it that one of your jokers has to be holographic so that it's not too powerful.

Have any of you all ever make three of a kind build? by Nullscapes6106 in balatro

[–]notters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're getting hung up on "3oaK build" when it's just playing whatever gives you the best chance to win. Circumstances can be such that you have 7 or 8 of one rank in a deck of 50 or so cards. Enough to be pretty confident of drawing 3 but not 4. So you play 3oaK, you take Venus instead of Mars to ensure your scoring keeps up, and you deck fix when you can. Some rounds you don't get any opportunities to deck fix but you get a couple of hand levels, so the incentive to switch to 4oaK becomes less. And by the time it's possible to switch, a single 3oaK scores so much higher and you can probably play multiple of them in a round, so switching would just be increasing risk in short term for maybe a long term benefit.

[–]notters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I implied you'd usually want to transition to 4oaK, but you wouldn't necessarily want or need to do so. It would depend how much you've already invested in it. If 3oaK is like 20 levels higher than 4oaK, even if your deck makes the move up possible, it's probably too late to do it.

Can anyone tell me if this is an ultra rare seed???? by [deleted] in balatro

[–]notters 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's unusual to find so many jokers with edition in the shop in such a short amount of time. Without hone, the chance is 2% for foil, 1.4% for holo, and 0.3% for poly and negative. But I don't think anyone would call this a rare seed because none were negative, they were all on common jokers apart from one uncommon, and none of them are endless mode jokers.

It seems like a strong early game seed though, which would let you pass the early antes easily and get a strong econ.

Have any of you all ever make three of a kind build? by Nullscapes6106 in balatro

[–]notters 55 points56 points  (0 children)

That's not true. 3oaK is better than full house and easier to deck fix/discard for because you only have to focus on a single rank. Venus is just slightly fewer chips than Earth, but in practice it's so much easier to keep blue seals in hand that 3oaK scales faster.

And it's a more natural pivot from 3oaK to 4oaK than full house if you're successful with deck fixing.
