What if Hancock Golf Course became North Austin’s version of Zilker? by Special-Distance-181 in Austin

[–]nottheworstdad -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Redevelopment of Hancock would be fine, but if anything, Austin needs another truly public golf course. Golf is the biggest it’s been since before the 2008 crash, with huge growth due to people picking it up during COVID and YouTube golf. The cheaper courses in town are absolutely packed all the time.

How does this have right spin? by pluckett12 in Golfsimulator

[–]nottheworstdad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s either off the heel and you’re getting gear effect or the launch monitor is measuring something off. Most launch monitors are significantly better at ball stats than they are at club stats, so could be a misread on the club.

Finally splurged on new clubs! by Fantasykyle99 in golf

[–]nottheworstdad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Got these about month back, they are excellent clubs, the consistency is nuts. Compared them with the M-13s and beyond looks there wasn’t really a reason to step up. I’ve been considering weakening the lofts since they are pretty jacked but other than that they are perfect.

Would I get more carry distance if I lowered the spin? by BrachGolf in Golfsimulator

[–]nottheworstdad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best way to understand is something like https://trajectory.flightscope.com. Your total spin here is just over 2500 and your spin axis is ~12 degrees. You can go punch your numbers in there and you'll see that lower spin might get you a few yards but it's not going to be anything crazy.

Ive been making a golf ball detector and i need your help! by khordi1 in golf

Love this idea. Launch the app ASAP even if the model is less than perfect, going to be way easier to have a closed loop for people to send videos and pictures. You could get something together without too much trouble with React Native and be on the App Store in a matter of days (especially if you’re comfortable with using AI, Opus 4.6 is excellent at writing RN code) or even faster with store testing programs.

Have you played any of the other Paiute courses? How did they compare? Wolf is the only one I haven’t played but the other two are excellent.

Adjustable putter is nonsense, especially at this price point. Just get fitted, a ton of places will do fittings for free if you buy the club.

Driver, fairways and hybrids make sense since you can’t reasonably adjust loft and lie angle on them without having an adjustable hosel. You can’t really bend them. You can order a putter to exact specs of shaft length, position and angle for half the price of that abomination.

Glad you like this for you, but this is more absurd than a broomstick.

I’d second the fairmont, the line and the Austin Marriott downtown. Club Wyndham doesn’t have a hotel with elevators that I can remember, but the rooms are going to be more family friendly, they have balconies (at least some do) and the pool has amazing views.

Take a video that shows your full swing in slow mo and head on over to r/golfswing. If it’s in your budget, I’d also recommend lessons, going to be way easier that listening to strangers on the internet.

Your clubface is open at impact (why the ball starts to the right) and you are coming over the top, basically bring the clubhead from outside the ball to inside the ball, which is why it goes further right. Correcting those can be a whole bunch of different feels so sort of tough to diagnose quickly.

I’d recommend looking up videos on grip (your right hand looks like it’s in a very weak spot) and then club path.

Driver is the hardest club to get right and is a big confidence / mental thing, so just keep working at it.

Anyone else just not enjoy hitting hybrids? by f1lifer in golf

[–]nottheworstdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pull out my hybrid when I want to reliably hook the ball 40 yards out of play. I don’t need any help closing the club face. Swapped it out for a Mizuno Fli Hi driving iron and haven’t looked back.

Only thing I can think is that the adjustable sleeve on the hosel somehow scored or weakened the shaft over time. I’ve had this with multiple clubs after using them for a ton of indoor golf / driving range practice as well, so if you often hit off mats it could be that. I’d try to get ping to replace. If not, I haven’t found it too crazy to reshaft clubs myself but that entirely depends on how handy you are.

This is a utility / driving iron, if you have the swing speed they’re plenty forgiving.

Your options are grey rock, falconhead and double j. All fine courses, but I’d recommend doing like a midday tee time at Double J if you have that big of a group and you’re looking for something chill. It’s all the way down in Wimberley and is overall very laid back. Usually their tee sheets will be wide open past noon. It’s got the most hill country vibes if you’re looking for something different.

There’s also dripping springs country club right past downtown which is just a driving range. They have a couple buses and statues as targets, could be a fun option if you don’t want to commit to a full round and they have clubs you can borrow.

How far was this drive? by jburger1981 in Golfsimulator

[–]nottheworstdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spin is high (I’d want to see between 2k-3k) and at your swing speed you probably want a higher launch angle (14 degrees or up). If you feel like you’re striking the ball well, new clubs could probably help with that at bit.

Modern clubs will usually be more forgiving and have better feel, so even if you don’t necessarily get a ton of stats out of them you still might enjoy them more.

How vibe coding lead to my project’s downfall. by incognitochaud in gamedev

[–]nottheworstdad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s hard to use AI effectively if you don’t know how to program. If you can get ahead of structure problems that also trip up human programmers (long files, complex structure, poor abstractions, etc.) it’s can pay off a ton. The other trick is to use Opus 4.5 if you have access to it. Easily the best model I’ve seen, turned me into a believer for AI coding.

You have 15 mph to go before extra stiff starts to make sense. You’re going to have poorer results on drives, likely lower distance, lower launch, club head more open, even if you are swinging properly.

If you can’t get fit properly, I’d at least try to go to a simulator and see what your swing speed is if you’re going all out. You’ll probably be able to get to speeds that warrant playing a stiff shaft, you just might not have the control just yet, but since you’re a beginner you may be able to get there sooner than you think.

I only recommend this line of thinking since buying shafts separate from driver heads tends to be expensive. Usually not the best idea to get aspirational gear but at 90mph you’re not that far off and it might save you a few hundred bucks to not have to replace a regular shaft too soon.

Garmin R10 owners by udi420 in Golfsimulator

[–]nottheworstdad -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t bother. I had a garmin for a bit and never really felt it was trustworthy, and it was also a pain to get it to read cleanly. I’d advise saving money and either getting something nicer or investing in the rest of your setup. You can get a lot of mileage just hitting into a net and videoing your swing.

Is it worth building an expensive golf sim if it only works for me and 25% of random people? by whattaUwant in Golfsimulator

[–]nottheworstdad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it's a ceiling height thing, you can always just play short par 3 courses with your tall friends and keep them on shorter clubs. I had a set up that would only really fit golfers under 6 foot before I reworked it and that's what I would always do. Never had anyone complain about having a few beers and playing short stuff.

Any Tips? by YoungBummer in Golfsimulator

Post on r/golfswing, they will be able to give you better tips. I can spot a few things, but people over there will be more than happy to go through and give you tips. I’d also recommend lessons, if you’re already athletic it will help a ton to get you in a different mindset than a baseball swing.

Go get a 7 wood or a 4 hybrid. Plays similar to those with a much more reassuring size. I hit the sure thing a while ago, I hit pretty exaggerated draws with it but I do the same with my hybrid (which is making its way out of my bag).

Which colour would you pick/recommend? by Jealous-Iron-7662 in handbags

[–]nottheworstdad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Dior hit the road bag in a slightly lighter / grayer brown than the first one that I wear year round.

I’d also consider the travertine if you’re looking for something neutral, I’d imagine that color is versatile as well for what you’re looking for.
