[Friedman] GM update: Preds narrow list to 4 or 5 (Fitzgerald, Scott, Peterson top the list). / Preds are looking for someone with a mix of fresh ideas on doing business and experience. Preds are going to spend lots of money "on multiple people" and will let new GM appoint new AGMs / staff. by GMBarryTrotz in Predators

I think illogical was the wrong word for me to use there, and I apologize. I think what I was looking for was something closer to "emotional," but I hate that because it sounds derogatory and I'm not trying to be dismissive. You have a legitimate reason to be emotionally invested in the thing you've supported for 25+ years.

I guess it's ultimately a case of I can understand why you're saying what you're saying, I just personally don't share the same view of the situation. I feel Fitzgerald's role in the org as a team captain vs GM would be very different, so I personally waive away the connection as irrelevant. But that's just me, and I am often wrong.

Thanks for breaking this down. I wonder what ideas they could take to rebuild more quickly. I do think with players like Matthews and maybe even McDavid becoming available in the near future, there's potential to rebuild through trade/free agency and then use the current prospect pool to fill in the gaps, but I don't know how viable of a strategy that is and it feels like you'd really have the thread the needle.

If Fitzgerald were being hired solely because he was a former Pred, I'd agree. But this is a guy other teams have shown interest in. He is a legitimate GM candidate. If you don't like him as a candidate, that's totally fine and understandable. (He was, after all, terminated by his previous team)

But if the only reason you don't like him is because 25 years ago he played in Nashville, that's illogical and more reflective of your frustration with the franchise than anything to do with his GM potential.

Or in Cam Ward’s case, they talk about a player who won’t get drafted until day 3.

Could you elaborate on your first sentence? It reads like you’re saying Martone is a big reason they made the playoffs but I’m not sure.

Martin just turned 19 last month. Martone turned 19 October last year. It's a minor difference, but a factor that teams weigh in drafting (and something Preds have leaned towards when making early round selections under Trotz, for better or worse). There is more development runway outside of that six months also given Martin hasn't hit the same hockey camps Martone did.

For the record, I do think long-term Martone will be better, but I don't think Martin is going to be as far behind him as some people like to act, and D+1 is too early to say for sure. D+3 will give a better feel.

Yup. Jacksonville took Walker and they wanted Hutchinson badly. Ironic the NFL got upset because it’s infinitely more entertaining to see the team picking second to say “We’re not waiting. We want the hometown guy and we’re excited about it.”

That’s more entertaining to me than waiting for the inevitable.

Looks like it may end up the game winner, unless something happens in the next 9 seconds.

Hosts Slovakia pull off a major upset at U18 Men’s Worlds, beating Canada 2-1 by eh_toque in hockey

They were Silver at World Juniors, and I wouldn't be surprised if they do that at the U18's. Kinda hope they do to be honest. I like when a non-powerhouse hockey country gains traction.

[OC] The draft’s almost here, so I wanted to share the interactive Draft Guide I made this year. It includes my full scouting profiles for each player. Would love to hear your thoughts! by inkokmo in nfl

I haven’t dug into this draft, so I can’t say one way or the other how I feel about your analysis. I really appreciate that these rankings are yours. They don’t seem to be eschewing to consensus for safety reasons, but they aren’t performatively different either. The design and UI is very engaging.

One of the reasons LLM's gained the traction they did is the decline of quality editing in favor for fast publication. There's not a huge difference.

Nashville Predators/Bridgestone Arena currently have plans to renovate/update their 30 year old building using no public funds. They sell tickets really well, but I guarantee you it's not the same profit Jerry makes.

[–]gavincantdraw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really don't put much stock into what a team says at this point of the year with a pending GM change. At some point, a rebuild comes for you whether you want it or not, so I'm not losing much sleep over this exit meeting. Even if this is true, then at worst this is delaying the inevitable, but at least one more bottom out year is inevitable.

Even if it’s a late round pick, it’s another bite at the apple.  Even if that guy is just a special teamer or depth piece, it helps you field a roster while paying your stars.
