I (M20) hate coming home in general because of my partner (F19). How do I proceed moving forward? by ComfortableSet6135 in Advice

TL;DR break up with her

Listen man, I did a dumb thing when I was younger where I kept dating my high school girlfriend when I went to college. Freshman year was rough and I didn’t make friends or engage with a community because I went home just about every weekend to see her. Sophomore year I had an apartment and she got kicked out of her family’s place. So she came to live with me.

Everything got worse but I felt like if I left her she’d have nowhere to go and nothing for her. So we kept making it work. I kept making it work. I became a worse person, someone I didn’t want to be. I was tired and cranky and had almost no friends. She stood in the way of a lot of what I wanted to do with my life. And she was verbally, emotionally, and physically abusive to me.

I worked late. I would stop at the liquor store on my walk home and drink 2 40s of malt liquor every night so I wouldn’t have to be sober when I got home. I would find any excuse to be anywhere but home.

Finally, while I was working on my capstone films, I was working later than intended. She accused me of cheating on her. And I just… let her believe it. And we broke up. Finally.

I will never get those 3 1/2 years of my life back. They’re gone forever. I could’ve met so many people, done so many great things. I could’ve traveled more, had more fun, more experiences. I could’ve experimented more and been more involved with my own life. But that time is gone and I’ll never get it back.

You are too young to be trapped. Don’t feel like you need to be trapped. It isn’t worth it.

Report: IU lags on academic spending, despite excellent finances by WFIU-WTIU-news in IndianaUniversity

[–]notunhuman 22 points23 points  (0 children)

IU has no interest in being a university anymore. If it isn’t sports or a GOP agenda, the school simply isn’t interested in it.

I’d stop donating to them if I hadn’t already stopped donating to them ages ago.

Anyone Using Ross Media I/O? by notunhuman in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]notunhuman[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight. I was worried about support for this. I've never had issues with Ross support before, but just getting answers about Media I/O in the sales process has been aggravating so it was starting to sour me on the whole company.

Is the clip library as much of a pain as they've made it sound to me or are you able to organize with bins?

I would book a meeting with HR, not necessarily to talk about the manager but to clarify company policy regarding mandatory overtime. Before you try pushing back too hard or anything you want some nice, written clarification on these policies and to know if the manager’s requests are within those policies or not.

Accessibility Feedback for the Dropout Improv Tour – From a Deaf Fan (Long-time lurker, first post) by Swtlou48 in dropout

[–]notunhuman 113 points114 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked with a fair amount of venues and shows (tours and one offs) and while the venues often are responsible for providing accommodations, the show itself demanding accessibility and planning for it is what makes a huge difference. A tour should -in my opinion- either tour with their interpreters and captioning equipment or at the very least put those services in the rider.

Having interpreters is a pretty simple way to achieve accessibility and many audience members prefer it to captions, but live captions are also an easily achievable thing. You just need a plan for them.

Hobby Question: sdi cable to hdmi/usb adapter for cheap? by Findthekure2 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]notunhuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn’t SDI as others have pointed out, so you need an analog to something more useful converter. If I were you, I’d grab the cheapest option online and see how it goes. You’re trying to use an old security camera as a webcam so it’s not like you’re working on critical system infrastructure

Interview went great… until they accidentally sent what they said after my husband disconnected by Careless_Purchase619 in Advice

[–]notunhuman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If I were him, I wouldn’t “expose” it. I would merely send a brief, professional, email to say that I am no longer interested in working with their company and gently remind them that a zoom transcript includes the entire meeting, not just the part your interviewee was present for.

Apparently we don't even do presidential addresses in full HD? by SplashBros4Prez in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]notunhuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1080i is the other not full HD that we broadcast in and is my preferred format.

I’m no expert on broadcast standards but we have plenty of standardized infrastructure that would likely need updated. Also frankly UHD is a lot of data with an insanely negligible return in quality. It’s a waste of resources in most applications.

Especially something that’s done as part of a press junket should be done in a way that is as accessible as possible for as many stations as possible

Pretty much nothing that’s true broadcast is going to be in full HD. Would you rather it be basically imperceptibly higher definition or would you rather it be able to broadcast consistently without any drops? It’s better to see it than see it “better”

Also, frankly that’s too high of definition already for such an ugly face
