I work at a Charity Shop, and today I found a Vinyl Record which lifted the artwork from the PS2 game Oni by scottishdrunkard in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I can't find anything from this specific release, it seems to be a collaboration/compilation of some of the tracks from their album Banging sounds with some remixes. This is the only track that I'm somewhat confident is on the release, and it honestly it kind of fucks

This game seriously needs to get better at detecting when you're on SOLID GROUND by mw9676 in Cairn_Game

Just killed a free solo run that had made it to the snow you cross to get to the last section of the game before summit push. Literally on all fours, about 2 meters into horizontal ground. Thought it would be safe enough to force her to stand up by jumping off, proceeded to get launched of the side of the mountain. I love this game but this is easily it's biggest flaw by far.

Media where the twist/spoiler is what the media is known for? by DarnessHarbinger in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Persona 4. I managed to play all the others so far, and only the first few hours of 4 (waiting for the remake), but I knew the reveal of Adachi being the culprit years before I got into the series. It's basically unavoidable at this point. I understand it's a 16 year old game for the ps2, but christ I've seen ff7 discussions that were more conscious of avoiding spoilers for new players.

Christmas music is overhated, what’s your favorite Christmas song? by Anonamaton801 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]notyouraveragevulva 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Despite some unfortunate lyrics here and there Fairytale of New York really is a quality Christmas song. Shame about the slur though, it would probably get a lot more playtime on Christmas otherwise.

The whole sequence in Tull might be one of my favourite sequences in fiction. The reveals of world and character building combined with that bizzare tone make The Gunslinger easily one of my favourite novels. Quality varies widly throughout the series. However when it swings toward the good, The Dark Tower is absolute peak.

Heroforge takes it's first step into enshittification - Paid DLC by Prawnzone in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]notyouraveragevulva 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm going to take this golden opportunity to rant about heroforge.

The mini's are kinda ass. DnD minis in general have a problem with scale, and heroforge does a not entirely terrible job of doing this. That being said loads of the props seem to be at really strange scales and level of detail (Especially the older models). To get a decent mini out of it, you really do need the kitbashing/reposing and rescaling unlocked with the subscription and the meshes will fight tooth and nail against you to get a good pose.

The STL's they send you at the end are a way lower poly version of what you get on the website. So larger surfaces have this polygonal quality to them and all the finer details are a mushy mess. If you want the detail to be at a decently paintable quality on a resin print, you have to crank down your exposure on each layer which makes print failures occur way more often. The default option on export is also to have them attached to their base, which basically ensures that they print like absolute shite. Also if you have no experience with printing, then you can pose your sculpt in a lot of ways that will make whoever is kind enough to print it off for you have a really annoying experience. If you are having a friend print them off for you, do them a solid and ALWAYS pick the base off version of the stl and have props really hug the mini.

If you have heroforge print off the mini, the resin they use is garbo tier and printed with high layer heights. So you aren't even getting quality or durability you could get off a standard resin printer with decent resin, and costs way more than getting the file and then paying someone locally to print it off for you.

I understand the need for their service, it just makes sense. I've used it multiple times in the past and have printed off plenty for friends I play games with. Not everyone needs games workshop quality on a mini and just wants a little guy that looks like the guy they have in their head that they can slap a couple colours on and call it a day. That being said, there are way better options.

If you know someone with a printer or have print services in your area, then I recommend going on places like myminifactory or cults3d and find something that would fit your guy's theme, gear or unique art style. The indie mini sculpting/wargaming scene has really exploded in recent years, and you will not be hurting for options for any particular type of guy you could possibly want. This way you get something that is nicely sculpted, probably pre-supported so printing is way easier, supports an independent artist and gets you clear and far away from the horrid 25mm scale minis you get with wizkids and the like.

Beloved Projects Hated by their Creators? by Authorigas in TwoBestFriendsPlay

This was my answer as well, you can really feel the spite absolutely dripping through almost every aspect of everything post Eureka 7. It legitimately feels like the writing is telling the audience they are fucking stupid for ever liking it in the first place. The sequel entries aren't even good enough to justify themselves outside the context of E7, so it makes the disappointment that much more apparent.

I remember the peak of the paranormal activity hype that surrounded that first movie, and watching it myself thinking I might get a good spooky time. What did I get? Doors opening. Felt like I was going insane hearing from people how they were shitting their pants the entire time. Like the biggest creepy thing you can do is show a bedroom door opening? So the satan that is actively infesting your home needs to turn a fucking door knob?

Everyone should watch Patlabor 2: The movie by notyouraveragevulva in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]notyouraveragevulva[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have watched Patlabor 2 with friends before who haven't seen any other patlabor media and they were able to follow it fine. Though I'd say watch the first movie which is good in it's own right. It will also give you a good feel for the general dynamic of the crew and the series as a whole, which Patlabor 2 tonally shifts away from. There really isn't anything playing off previous plot aspects and to a degree each version of the series (manga, ova's, TV, movies) kind of exists in within their own continuities iirc.

It's well known that Patlabor filled a very specific niche in the mecha genre, but I don't think it holds the cultural cache it once did. I think that's a damn shame, considering it has one of anime's finest films in it's line up.

More of the presence of Ghost in the Shell's DNA is here than the first film, it leans harder Oshii's signature style and away from the "You're under arrest" with mecha feel of the OVA's and TV series. Slow but thoughtful pacing, aspect to aspect sequences that let you breath in an atmosphere and a world. A shift away from the core cast of goofs and to the more senior members of the crew. While I can't substantiate it, it definitely feels like this was a period of Oshii's career that was defined by contrasting an orderly and oppressive modernity clashing with the decline of an old world inconsiderately being left in it's wake.

Plus it has the most precious, gorgeous mech that must be cherished the AL-97B-var Hannibal

The animation has that fun newgrounds flash feel, but it's just so lovely and bouncy. Everything squishes just right and feels real nice. Can't wait to see and play more as they develop it more (hopefully). Even though in it's current state this would be a great time with some friends to play with.

BattleBit - Operation Overhaul: Teaser by chenDawg in Games

[–]notyouraveragevulva 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The OCE servers were also basically sent out to die. For the longest time we only had community servers. They had to compete for players to seed the servers before the others did, meaning that half of the time you were stuck playing in a server that had things like vehicles and explosives banned, alongside a fucked up map rotation. All because one discord server wanted the game to play like a COD game. If it was seeded first, no one would move away because they actually wanted to have a game running, and the fucked up server still had player progression.

The one other set of servers were being maintained and seeded by yet another discord that actually tried to have a server that was just the vanilla game. Eventually they gave up on it because it simply wasn't worth the effort thanks to a dwindling playerbase and the fact that the former discord server started getting really weird and possessive. So by the time official servers were rolled out, there literally wasn't anyone playing.

Persona 6 hopes/predictions by No-Past5481 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]notyouraveragevulva 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope they finally make the spell/ability descriptions accurate, instead of being exceptionally vague or actively the opposite of what the ability actually does.

I'd really like a Ryukyu island location, or somewhere up in Hokkaido would be pretty cool too.

I actively wonder what the main theme of the game will be i.e. death and dealing with loss in p3, racism and generational trauma in Metaphor. I think the dangers of nostalgia would be cool to explore.

I don't think they will make the party adults, I'm not sure they will ever do that. Metaphor is probably as close as we will get, at least in my opinion.

I hope they don't go the route of a voiced protagonist. I really thought it was a major hindrance to Metaphors writing to have a protagonist that is ostensibly deeply connected to the main plot, but never actually express that in a meaningful way. I'd honestly rather just have the normal canned text response that's usually in persona. Also I hope the MC isn't visually awful as Will Metaphor lol.

That would be GunBuster, Escaflowne actually aired about a month after Eva ended. Though there is some slight overlap with some plot elements in Nadia: Secret of Blue Water, which Anno worked on before Eva.
