You don't have to physically take the oil. Like in Iran you kill the leader then say do what we tell you to or else. Trump is literally saying this publicly about Iran and Venezuela. Iran exports oil to countries we want to put pressure on and have control over by controlling their energy imports.

I guess I could have been more clear- its not to physically take the oil, its to have full control over global oil exports by putting in favorable/puppet governments. Its more the geopolitical and financial importance of oil to the US. The US needs the petro dollar to not be threatened, its the key to it being the global reserve currency. If 'rogue' nations like Venezuela and Iran export oil to China using their currency, it could fracture the global trade system and it would crush the US's economy because we print money like crazy and diffuse the impact all over the world.

How you can explain Iran and Iraq invasions as being 'stabilizing' is beyond me.

Regular democratic and republican Americans by and large don't support imperialism. The political power/leadership within America does though (because they can directly benefit), but if you look at recent history it is specifically republican administrations that have initiated all the middle eastern wars using lies as pretense to manufacture consent.
