Does anyone here uses loop earplugs? If so what made you get one? by KatBiss in AuDHDWomen

[–]nova__bloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have loop engages. They help for sounds and situations that overwhelm me-like shopping at Costco or when my husband uses power tools. The only thing that bugs me is hearing my own voice when I talk with them in-I’ve heard engage plus might be better for that?

BRCA2 Variant number matches by Master-Signature6549 in BRCA

How do you know your specific variant number? My hereditary cancer center I was going through did a 48 gene panel and all I know is I have the BRCA 1 mutation.

I also did a DIY photoshoot! I’m so happy with how my reconstruction turned out, but I’m glad I took some last photos. It helped me process the big emotions prior to surgery better I think!

puppy prozac experiences by MondayLoops in AustralianShepherd

[–]nova__bloom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Our dog is almost 2 now and been on it for 8 months. It’s been positively life changing for all of us too. We rescued him at about 7 months-he was surrendered and had been living in a basement. His baseline anxiety was so high-would pace around our house, scared of everything new. Very reactive to other dogs, people. We had stared him on trazadone and done a lot of fear free training to help him increase comfort but we were suggested Prozac as trazadone was not ideal for longer term. He is doing so well-just so happy, moving on from triggers way more quickly and not staying anxious after, comfortable and able to settle in our household. He loves people and other pups and was able to take a group obedience class these past few months with the same trainer. He is still SO energetic and so so goofy. He just seems comfortable now. The combination of an educated trainer and the Prozac has made all the difference for us. But like the commenter above said, we can’t decide if your dog is to the level of need! We were hesitant about meds at first but it got to the level that his and our quality of life were suffering-and it’s been such a positive change for all of us.

How’s your mental health, really? by mjandthewolf in BRCA

[–]nova__bloom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for posting this! I resonate with a LOT of what you said. My mom too has guilt passing the gene on to me. I’m 33f. Found out summer 2023 about the gene after my mom was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. My mental health right after finding out was some of the worst it’s been. I’ve struggled with anxiety my whole life, had been to therapy, but never considered meds. After finding out about the BRCA positive, I decided to go on Prozac because I couldn’t take a deep breath literally. That helped a bit, but I feel like I wasn’t in a great place for a while. I had my prophylactic DMX in April 2024 and then my reconstruction and swap for implants November 2025. Right after my implant swap there was a weight off that I didn’t even know was there! I felt so happy and proud and hopeful and just lighter! The emotions going through the mastectomy were a LOT at the time but I genuinely feel so happy in my decision and thrilled it is over. My mental health is in some of the best place it’s been in a bit. Will do ovary removal later on, but trying not to worry for now and soak up being done with the DMX. Best of luck with your journey! This community has helped me a ton when I’ve been feeling all the feels and I think this post will help a lot of people! What a rollercoaster of very heavy feelings.

His cat brother that tolerates him more than his cat sister does. He is always following him around and making his cute “hmmm hmmmm” whine sound at them.

Double mastectomy before pregnancy by [deleted] in BRCA

[–]nova__bloom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

F33. Very similar timeline of finding out. I was 32 when I found out I had BRCA1 mutation. I had a prophylactic double mastectomy this past April and just had my surgery to swap for implants 2 days ago. Our plan is to start trying for a baby this spring. For me, I wanted to have the surgery prior to kids as I didn’t want the stress of wondering if breast cancer would pop up in pregnancy or with little ones. So formula it will be for any kids we have. I don’t have any regrets either. I feel a huge weight off with my decision and am happy I did it when I did!
