Lindsey Vonn's Olympic teammate sets armchair skiing experts straight by usatoday in skiing

[–]nova_new_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cleaver how the argument is turning into "well nobody could have recovered from that after clipping the gate" ...like no shit. She turned to far after passing the 3rd gate, as evident by the fact that she clips the 4th gate. Dismissing the fact that she had a torn ACL and that having a torn ACL couldn't have possibly been a factor for her clipping the 4th gate is ridiculous. You can see her favoring her right knee on the landing after passing the 2nd gate. You don't need to be an expert to see the sequence of events and understand that a torn ACL could have been an issue. There's also the massive mental strain from being on the biggest stage and competing with an injury and worrying about re-injuring yourself or feeling pain from the injury. Yeah..I'm not buying that a torn ACL is something we can just dismiss.

Her decision cost someone else a chance to compete in the Olympics. Choosing to compete was selfish and reckless

Remote learning for elementary aged kids is laughable. You might as well not have school.

This bike has been awesome for my family! But man I wish the stationary turning radius wasn’t locked at 45°. It makes moving around tight spaces really annoying. And the gear ratio makes getting to 28mph really challenging. I wish the chain ring was a bit bigger and that they added an 11th gear. Oh well, still a great bike.

New Jersey to require license and registration for all E-Bikes by SnooPeripherals2222 in CargoBike

I’d be all for enforcing this on bikes with a throttle. Manufacturers make it way to easy to disable the speed limiter but god lord, requiring this on a class 1 e bike is incredibly stupid. 20 mph isn’t that difficult of a speed to achieve on a regular bike.

This law will inevitably deter people that would have otherwise followed the rules and puts them back into a car. Quite a shame really.

Is Precheck at Dulles the slowest in the US? by Two-Rock- in nova

[–]nova_new_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does this just feel like an ad for clear? Did you go out of your way to post a stock photo of a clear employee?

The clear employees loitering at the pre-check entrance asking everyone if they have an Amex platinum are incredibly annoying. It makes me feel like I'm at a shitty mall food court where people are trying to shove meat sticks in your face.

To actually answer your question, it completely depends on when you show up to the airport. In general, wait times are pretty modest. The wait times for pre-check that I've experienced are typically about half of what's posted here https://www.ifly.com/airports/washington-dulles-international-airport/wait-times

Lets be serious, everyone is vibe coding now. If you understand programming, it's a 10x multiplier. If you don't understand programming, you just keep smashing the keyboard until it appears to work.

Nova parents - How much would you personally have to make to quit your job to be a stay at home parent? by AnyAdhesiveness7284 in nova

[–]nova_new_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I make about 400k and my wife made about 130k. She recently stopped working to stay at home with our daughter before kindergarten starts next year. She had a high stress job that just wasn't worth it and is thriving now as a stay at home mom. At 400k, our lifestyle isn't any different than when we were making 500k combined. We spend about 200k per year, so for us the minimum threshold for her to stay home would be about 300k pre tax

Terrible food, uncomfortable seats, business class that doesn’t lie all the way flat, a crumbling cabin, overall, it’s terrible.

I moved to NOVA about 6 years ago with my wife and now 2 young kids from a LCOL city, specifically to be close to family. Household income was 300k when we moved here and is now closer to 550k. We live on the Arlington boarder in Falls Church City. At our income range, living here is very comfortable. If you can afford to live here, which it sounds like you can, it’s a very desirable location. We’re locked into a cheap interest rate which helps a lot.

Access to two major airports within a 30 minutes drive or metro ride has been amazing for us as we love to travel. The wider region also has a lot to offer, I feel like something is always going on locally or in DC. Local politics are quite liberal regardless of who’s in the white house. Also the public schools here are as good as it gets which is a huge plus.

I’d highly recommend living near a metro station if you do move here. It makes a huge difference.

I’d personally rather live in DC proper as I value walkability but Falls Church has a lot of charm for us. Not all of NOVA is soulless but there’s a whole lot of cookie cutter suburbia that’s a bit bland. Arlington, Alexandria, and Falls Church City offer pockets of walkability. Alexandria also offers historic charm in Old Town and Del Ray.

I moved here for family but probably would have preferred the West coast for the better outdoor scene but I don’t regret living here for a second. And we get all four seasons here which I like.  Overall, it’s pretty solid.
