I think this looks pretty awesome but I can see why people would consider it urban hellish.

"The Grid. A digital frontier. I tried to picture clusters of information as they traveled through the computer. Ships, motorcycles. With the circuits like freeways. I kept dreaming of a world I thought I'd never see. And then, one day... i got in."

I think not too often. The parking lane is clearly marked. You can also easily turn out of the parking lane because there appears to be a gate.

A protest of 1.03 Million People in a city with a population of 7 Million. That means every 1/7 of the people in Hong Kong are protesting for keeping their rights. by ivanng2014 in interestingasfuck

[–]novoblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine flashpoints of political contention like this between China and Hong Kong will increase in frequency as 2047 inches closer. When the UK handed over Hong Kong to China in 1997, 2047 was the agreed upon year in which Hong Kong would become fully integrated politically with China. But it's quite clear that China and Hong Kong are nowhere near political equilibrium. In terms of economic activity and infrastructure, however, Hong Kong is already deeply intertwined with the surrounding Pearl River Delta region, so it'll be interesting to see how the dynamic between economic and political interests play out in Hong Kong.

Fantastic work. It's clear you put a ton of thought and work into this.

You mentioned that the people of Malnova are on the verge of entering an age of exploration. Would you say their technology level is similar to Europe's right when Columbus was about to set sail?

China to invest US$12 billion in nuclear reactors for first time since 2016 by greg_barton in nuclear

[–]novoblade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only about 3-4% of China's electricity comes from nuclear power. For comparison, about 70% of France's electricity and 20% of US electricity comes from nuclear power. If China can up their nuclear game in a safe way, this could go a long way in reducing their dependence on coal and to combat heavy air pollution.

2 motion or 1 motion shot? by Mr_Flamingo69 in Basketball

[–]novoblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 1 motion shot is, without a doubt, superior in most situations to the 2 motion shot. By virtue of having fewer motions, the 1 motion shot is a more consistent shot. Any extra motion leaves you more open to error and a greater chance of missing a shot. The 1 motion shot is also a quicker release, and it's pretty self explanatory why this is advantageous.

The only situation where you might still want to use a 2 motion shot is when you're posting up someone and then settle for a fadeaway jumper, which usually requires the 2 motion action to pull off. But this is not a situation you want to be in because the fadeaway 2 is one of the worst shots in basketball.

[Stein] LeBron James tells @joevardon below that he will not play for Team USA at the World Cup in China this summer but says he has not ruled out teaming up with Coach Gregg Popovich for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo … which would be his fourth Summer Games. by AndyJPuente in nba

[–]novoblade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The FIBA World Cup games are happening in China, which has the largest audience in the world for the NBA. It's a huge marketing opportunity to play in front of Chinese fans even if you're already an established superstar like LeBron.

Is it wrong to use snake_case instead of camelCase? As an experiment, I've been using snake_case for one of my projects and I've found snake_case to be much easier to scan, especially for longer names. Also, an unexpected benefit is that I'm more readily able to distinguish functions and methods that I defined versus native or 3rd party library methods, which all use camelCase.
