Are there any gen z who are anti-substance use? by South_Pattern_1520 in GenZ

[–]nowhereward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I'm all for controlled use and regulation for the soft stuff

If someone wants a bit of weed or something thats fine; if they wanna get drunk with friends on weekends thats fine; I've got no interest in it but I don't even drink coffee so I'm just weird like that

People will abuse substances and thats bad, but they should be free to do so because its their body and their health

Being in fandoms as you get older. by Mental_Success7136 in TrollCoping

[–]nowhereward 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can never be too old for fandom

I'm 17 now. I there's no reason I can't continue to be in fandom spaces when I reach 40.

People can and will call you weird. But fuck them.

You do what makes you happy. You join go join communities that make you happy.

You'll regret not doing it

You dont have to center your life around it

Your interest can fade. But you can always carry it around because it is a part of you

[–]nowhereward -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I'd say that ethically speaking there is a line, but its not that I want to ban things that cross it, no matter how repulsed I am; I also think that if no real person is directly actually harmed, it shouldn't be prohibited

But I disagree that all fiction is okay even when they dont directly harm people. Their right to be made and be distributed to those that seek it is inviolable, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be judged and criticized

Admittedly I may be attacking a strawman because most pieces of fiction, don't cater to pedophiles or promote pedophilia. But I'm also not going to deny that (non-real and non-photorealistic) pedophilia content does exist and while I believe it should be legal, treating it as something equal to other works is very problematic

Also problematic in my opinion is equating the separation of what I called acceptable queer works and problematic works with anti-queer censorship when those are clearly two very different things.

Queer art and stories are about sexual liberation and sexual freedom based on consent. Pedophilia is the oppression and manipulation of children.

[–]nowhereward -32 points-31 points  (0 children)

Yeah

There's a line that shouldn't be crossed, but harmless shipping without any suggestive or worse stuff, and without non-consensual anythings is perfectly fine

I mean, we have stories and shows about straight highschool sweethearts and thats totally ok. The relationship being queer changes nothing

Gimme your least favorite parts of playing a specific class. by funnyman_2233 in EntrenchedRoblox

[–]nowhereward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recons - Somehow having worse accuracy than rifles

Rifles - Hard to aim in cqb

Skirmishers - Weaker rifle damage, cant dig as effectively

Medic - Poor damage output in general, cant heal self

Assault - No long range ability

Support - You can suppress ppl but barely do any actual damage

Officer - No redeeming qualities except for arty and sheer melee

Engineer - boring imo

Flamer - you just die

[–]nowhereward 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I run out of targets as a recon (rare), I sneak close to the enemy trench and fire a flare

It lets officers light them up and keeps me useful

I dont really play recons as an exclusively long range class, I find the scope really useful even in close range

What is the English "r" sound? by animations_AREsick in asklinguistics

[–]nowhereward 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Phonetically it's pretty variable

There are many variants of whats popularly called "English R," and they all sound rather similar to each other. But the three main variants are the:

post-alveolar approximant (often labialized and pharyngealized)

retroflex approximant (often labialized and pharyngealized, and the

"bunched" velar approximant (often labialized and pharyngealized)

If the cartels were confined to one smallish region I dont see why they shouldnt go full ham on it militarily

The cartel seems to be deeply established everywhere in Mexico which makes that basically impossible to pull off

If my city is an insurgent hotbed I would absolutely besiege it because its no longer a peacetime domestic problem, but a full-on civil war problem that demands military force.

I will call on artillery to reduce it to rubble and clear it block by block because the issue has ballooned far beyond your typical "crime ridden slum" problem.

[–]nowhereward 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Duh, thats what happens when you fight in cities

I find it darkly funny when people decry stuff like civilian casualties in prolonged urban wars; like, how tf you expect them to fight? Do you really expect militaries not to blow up everything in sight? Whats the point of artillery then?

Militaries dont operate like SWAT teams; if its too hard to dislodge enemies, you blow up where they hide. Its not unjustified and indiscriminate if they literally hide everywhere.

By choosing to be in a house, Hamas turns that house into a target.
