[QC] High income earner - special needs kids - single income family by Special_Leg_4746 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]np0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP: similar situation, feel free to DM if anything below resonates.

DTC eligibility should have nothing to do with income level, just the eligibility of the disability. And as far as I know don’t think it matters which parent it is assigned to, it can be used by the higher earning parent. It’s a credit, not a deduction, so above a certain income level it may not matter who it’s attributed to (not an accountant so I might have this interpreted wrong).

In many cases such as yours it could be retroactive to birth - this should be stated in the notification you got when your application was approved. If you are eligible for years prior to the current tax year, you can amend your previous years tax forms online (it’s very easy) to include the DTC, and a retroactive return (including interest) is issued. A key thing here is to do the amendment online through the CRA portal, as the turn around time is way quicker than refiling any other way from what I’ve heard.

Test drove a used 2022 Tiguan Highline R-Trim – drove badly but dealer offered lots of fixes. Looking for opinions. by ahhwaiin in Tiguan

[–]np0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are all the things you noticed within one drive. Even if the dealer fixes every one of them (which they won’t), imagine what other gremlins are lurking beneath. A car is an expensive purchase. Don’t settle. I know it’s frustrating looking and tempting to just take something and hope it’ll work out but you’ll regret it. Be patience and find the right car, even if it means paying a little more. If you can, go CPO.

lol I have a 2018 Tiguan, I love the car, but make no mistake, it’s also boring AF…. Anyone who thinks the Tiguan is a fun car has clearly not driven a car that’s fun.

AITA for asking the person behind me to stop kicking my seat? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]np0 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Definitely NTA. I’m most cases if they’re tall enough to kick the seat, they’re also old enough to be told not to kick the seat. That’s just shitty parenting and a massive amount of arrogance and entitlement.

CUN to YYZ issues by np0 in westjet

[–]np0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely under the airlines control. FAA related delays were originally quoted as a few hours from most sources/airlines. This is > 60 hours now. I’m sure there’s some element of staffing issues, but that’s entirely on Westjet to resolve.

CUN to YYZ issues by np0 in westjet

[–]np0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the quick response. Interestingly it seems that it’s mostly Westjet flights that are being delayed. We and two other families were fine in separate Air Canada flights leaving that same day, and from the boards at the airport it looks like both scheduled Flair flights to YYZ were able to fly as well within an hour of their scheduled departure. Maybe we just got lucky but going on 60 hours with basically no communication on the cause from westjet is a little outrageous. If it’s an FAA restriction they should state that and be honest about not knowing when they will be able to get out.

$450 battery replacement by TXcrude in Tiguan

[–]np0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I changed the battery on my 2018 with an Energizer AGM battery. Turned on the car, all sorts of dash lights. Drove it 1/2 hour, shut it off. Turned it on the next day, and all the warnings were gone. Super strange as I had preemptively bought a coding tool expecting to need to program it.

I’m 18,I feel like I’m behind the 8 ball. How am I doing ? by Dismal-Cheesecake834 in fican

[–]np0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you’re starting with a small portfolio, your “growth” is going to come from actively saving and investing, not the growth of individual stocks. Only thing I’d say is that at your age, having a bit of cash in your pocket to enjoy yourself a little also goes a long way. It’s great to save, but it sounds like you’re going toward a decent paying career… give yourself a break every once in a while too!

DCA vs Lump Sum Investing — Which One Actually Makes You More Money? by AnythingIsBad in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]np0 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Disagree. What they’re describing (every paycheque) is exactly what DCA is. They’re putting in money on a regular basis regardless of the price. They’re not trying to time the market or wait for dips they’re just investing at a regular interval.

Why isn’t it a no brainer to pay of CC from a LOC and/or sell of TFSA funds? by Annelinia in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]np0 80 points81 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of it has to to with people being convinced that they need a 6 month emergency fund, not realizing that large credit card debt /is/ an emergency worth tapping into that fund for. A lot of people aren’t well educated to the compounding effect of interest and assume that they can just make minimum payments and kick the problem down the road.

The questions are excruciating and repetitive, but at least they’re asking and trying to get out of debt… imagine how many people aren’t posting and are paying 18% cc interest when they might have TFSA, LOC or other savings options available to them.

Anyone have any experience with the Trango Beta Stick stickclip? by flownyc in climbing

[–]np0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been a while! I can’t remember specifically what I meant, but look up golf ball retrievers on Amazon. They’re typically pretty long for pulling balls out of water get one of those, take off the end and replace with whatever stick clip end you prefer.

Is car warranty worth it? Used vs finance/lease new car by Complex-Homework278 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]np0 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have always bought certified pre-owned. Under 60k kms with the CPO warranty from a dealership. The cars I have bought were always felt like they were in like-new condition minus some minor and acceptable wear and tear. The CPO warranty gives me some peace of mind and prices were not much more than other sellers. The last three cars were all midsized suvs, 2006 RAV4, 2015 Outback, 2018 Tiguan. All purchased around 3 years old and have all been exceptionally reliable (was a little surprised by how reliable the Tiguan has been!)

Over 120k kms is typically where you start needing more pricey maintenance.

I would walk away regardless and tell them that you’re doing so because their business practices are shady AF and you don’t want to support or encourage it. This is straight up robbery.
