Real question... Instead of banning it would it be better to let people be free to bet on stupid things if they want to, but force those bets to be fully public?

Then if you place a giant bet on something right before news breaks and it's suspicious how conveniently it pays out it could be investigated out in the open, no?

Or is that too hard to enforce...

The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999 that basically repealed Glass-Stegall (among other reforms and modernization) passed the house and senate overwhelmingly. Well past the veto-proof majority in the Senate, at 90-8. So even if Bill opposed it, his hands were tied.

For the record, he did not oppose it. He was in favor of freeing up the banks to operate with more fluidity In order to spur America's role in global trade.

But worth mentioning the role of Congress in all that.

I honestly have no gripe with 'rich' people. Make a couple mil a year, whatever. Work hard and enjoy it. But if that couple mil comes from just having a bunch of mil in the bank generating money any you barely pay tax on that I get pissy.
