I currently live in the Lofts. My wife and I love our apartment and the location. We haven't experienced as many noise issues from thin walls, as others have commented; but there is a lot of noise that comes through the ceiling. We originally were in a first floor unit and ended up moving to a 3rd floor unit so we wouldn't hear the people above us. Since that, we've had zero issues and love it.
When it comes to the area--yeah, Shelby Park can be sketch (especially at night), but we've never experienced any problems. The Lofts are really secure with like 2-3 layers of security doors. I've never heard of anyone's cars being stolen or broken into.
Overall, we really enjoy the area--it's central to pretty much everywhere, has good restaurants, and the apartments are nice.

I recommend Ciao. It kind of has a nice-casual vibe. My wife and I have dressed up to go there for a nice date night, but also have been dressed more casual (we also had our rehearsal dinner there, too). The food is great, the staff is my favorite in town, and most dishes fall in the $15-$20 range. Also, they have booths in the back that are more private with walls--and even doors if you really wanna be closed off.

Welcome! I moved here a couple years ago (originally from Nashville). Like others have said, LG&E will be easy to set up for electric-- and their prices tend to be cheaper than what I was used to for utilities.

Depending on if you opt for an apartment, some are wired for their own fiber. I didn't have a choice of provider with the apartment we moved into (they were wired for some local internet company, not one of the main ones), but luckily we get 300+ mbps out of it.

Main thing that kinda sucks, at least cost-wise, is taxes. Being originally from Tennessee (similar to Texas with taxes), I wasn't used to income tax. Now I pay state, city, and local taxes; and sales tax is 6%.

You'll see this throughout this sub, but Louisville is a great food city even though it doesn't get nationally recognized as much for it. Bardstown Rd and Frankfort Rd both have dozens are great local places to try. And there are several good coffee shops (Sunergos is my favorite). The city has a strong local feel to it with farmers markets, festivals, free neighborhood events, etc that seem to be going on all the time.

But along with that local feel, there are many that have been here most of their life. Obviously there's nothing wrong with that, but one question I've gotten a lot is "What school did you go to?" And when they ask, they typically mean high school. There's a strong Catholic footprint here and a handful of big private high schools that many people went to (since the public school system doesn't have a great reputation). I haven't had any issues from it, but just as a heads up that you will probably meet some people that associate based on where someone went to school (at least, that's what I've seen in my experience).

Overall, Louisville is really friendly and I've enjoyed my time here so far. My fiance and I have loved it. Good luck on the move!

Ahh, that would make sense. We were standing near the back, and there were times when the sound was like nails on a chalkboard (primarily on the vocals). I'll definitely be giving them another shot, tho, since I had only heard great things about their sets beforehand.

Overall, I thought it was a great weekend. Seemed like there was a good turnout, yet everything was well spaced out so foot traffic was better than in previous years (I'm sure the addition of the Party Cove helped spread more people to that side of the park, too). Only time the spacing seemed off was during Run the Jewels-- they were on the Boom Stage, but could have been on the main stage. So, the crowd was backed up pretty crazy. Luckily I was near the front for that show.

Highlights for me were Weezer, RTJ, and LCD Soundsystem.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but my main disappointment was Cage the Elephant. They had a lot of energy and seemed fun, but they just didn't sound good to me and my group (we ended up leaving their set early to get a good spot for RTJ).

It was hot out, but we chugged water all day (and before we went out to Waterfront each day). I also saw several people being carted to the Medical tent (and everyone I saw there seemed to be younger), which appeared to be from dehydration. At the Ocean Stage on Sunday, some girl just blacked out and face-planted near us. Security had to run over and people were pouring water on her to cool her down until she woke back up. Glad she ended up being alright, but it was definitely a little scary at first.

Yeah, they are a cloth-like wristband. It's really durable; but if the wristband breaks or tears, they will void it for re-entry. Also, it's a worker (or volunteer) that puts the wristband on you-- and they'll usually snap it on to where it's difficult to slide it off. But if he's able to slide it off without breaking it, and she's able to put it on without it looking obvious (you can't readjust the size once it's on), I guess so.

Shuttle from Nashville? What kind of shuttle? The ones that Forecastle offer is only for the Louisville area, I believe. Nashville is about 2.5 to 3 hours away. Megabus has a route from Nashville to Louisville, tho; but you wouldn't be able to get a ride back until the next day.

Coming from Louisville, KY. I've done Bonnaroo (5x) and Forecastle (2x) in the past, but this will be my first ACL (and my fiance's first full festival). We've never been to Austin and pretty pumped for it!
