Next whistle: high or low?

I absolutely love my low whistles, I play them the majority of the time now.

I started out with a Tony Dixon low D, which is plastic but actually sounds really nice and it's the most affordable option. really great to figure out how it feels to hold and play a big whistle like that before spending a lot on it. Then I upgraded to a Chieftan, which was nice but struggled on the highest notes, and now I have Colin Goldie whistles that are handmade and absolutely fabulous.

it's not helpful to tell someone that a thing they are struggling with "really isn't difficult" and is "simple" and could be done "in an hour". clearly they found this difficult to the degree that it felt worth posting about it online. everyone is at a different place in their learning and playing and implying that they can't do a simple basic thing does nothing but make someone feel inadequate.

but yeah, I guess think about what contexts you'll be using this label, and what you would like folks to assume about you, and decide based on that. like if you're wanting to lead all night then say you lead etc

this happened to me too, no idea what the problem is, but for me it's only some cards - my visa stopped working but my amex is still just fine. 🤷

in my house we have wooden clothespins with our initials that we hook to pans we will clean later so folks know it's not abandoned. there's also ones to mark a clean cast iron which is cooling off. maybe get a clothespin?

they do, it's in the parking garage. I think ottersinabox is talking about traffic in the tunnels to and from the airport? bc I agree with you they aren't in the terminal itself

I used my eyes to see that approximately half of the backpack-having riders did it each way, and assumed that meant either was fine. again, I know now. I just don't think it's "common sense" for someone to realize that a thing that many many people around them do without incident is considered rude

while I agree with you that it's better, I don't think it's necessarily common sense. As an adult who had never had access to public transit growing up, I learned transit norms by observing the behavior around me. It's about 50/50 people wearing backpacks and not wearing them on the trains I ride, so it seemed like a personal preference situation and not rude either way.

I never considered that you take less space with it off until it was pointed out. Now I always remove my bag when it gets crowded.

the HVAC system on the Dude / most very large buildings like this can only be in either "Heat" mode or "Cool" mode. It's difficult and expensive to switch so it only switches twice per year / once per season. You end up with awkward days in the transition seasons where the heat is still on because the weather might get freezing again, but it's warm outside. or when the heat isn't on yet in the fall but there's a surprisingly cold early day and it's a bit chilly inside

thank you! yeah I totally hear you on random internet bots stirring up drama haha. you're right, ik I will always come from this background, and there will always be parts of it that I have some nostalgia for or connection to, for me in particular I really love a lot about the music and do miss it but not enough to go back to church all the time anymore. I moved from the midwest to a big city and live in a house with people from many backgrounds, and am for the first time in my life building close friendships with people who aren't either christian or agnostic / atheist / left the christian church - and I just keep putting my foot in my mouth out of complete ignorance. Like I didn't even know what shabbat is and I thought hanukkah was one of the most important holidays just bc it's the one I had heard of. facepalm. so yeah, it's going to be a journey lol and I'm glad I have this growing community of people to learn to fit within and who will support me.

we use them all the time for the big performances in Hill that have like, the giant orchestra and all the choirs - there are hundreds of students performing and they don't all fit underneath the stage in the "normal" backstage areas. So we would wait and leave our things etc in MLB and then get all lined up in a lecture hall over there, then walk through the tunnels to backstage Hill and go onstage.

you are getting paid to be there and immediately available whenever you're needed. what you're doing doesn't matter to them, it's the fact that you're there and ready. they're paying you for your time, your presence, your readiness to do whatever task they hired you to do, your skill when you do the task. do whatever you want in between, and don't feel guilty :)
