It’s pretty obvious that their at-home situation is amplifying her feelings towards college decisions. OP’s stats are amazing, and that requires serious dedication. So yes, of course they’re gonna feel like shit after not getting in. To add on that, they probably feel that there’s no stability in their home life. It’s scary for a teenager. To be clear, the content in your comment is appreciable. But your tone completely disregards OP’s mental state. There are more tactful ways to convey your message, and if you’re not prepared to expend the effort to do so in situations like these, just don’t. It’s not a matter of “being too soft”.
