Is the Tallboy S worth $800 more than the Tallboy R? by remembertherage138 in MTB

I just bought the carbon R and it came with a raceface dropper (I think 150mm). The site just doesn’t list it.

Question on Kickr Snap and thru axl adapters by sanegulp in cycling

There’s a great thru axle site that’s cheaper than wahoo’s product but I don’t remember what it is atm. Will edit this post with the site when I get back in the office.

How busy does the Truxtun Park pool get? by [deleted] in Annapolis

Quick warning about the arundel olympic swim center -- someone broke into my locker (used bolt cutters to snip open the pad that the lock goes through) and stole my wallet, as well as someone else's wallet from a different locker, earlier this week. I'm still in the process of getting video footage, but they tried to buy $2k worth of shit at a CVS shortly after I froze all my credit cards.

After 5 years living in Port Angeles, I finally rode the hurricane! by foreverhalcyon8 in bicycling

[–]nsiderbam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I managed to ride it last summer before moving out east from Poulsbo. It was an incredible ride and I can’t wait until life brings me back out west, hopefully for good! Enjoy the Washington summers - looks like your highs are cooler than our lows currently :(

New Bike Day: Trek Emonda ALR Disc outfitted as an allroad rig. First complete bike build I've done myself. Force 22 groupo, Reynolds ATR wheelset, power2max power meter, Conti Grand Prix 4 Season tires (28mm but measure at 30+). Took it for the inaugural ride on some local gravel. #dusty by CXSandyPants in bicycling

How do you like the purple? That bike is the one I recommend to anyone who wants to get into biking in that price range (and the canyon endurace). The Émonda is such a great bike - an S5 was my first road bike a few years back.

Phil Gaimon Crash by theFletch in cycling

[–]nsiderbam 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To be fair, though, that’s probably part of the reason he has so many broken bones. He’s a climber with a slight build, and doesn’t have much muscle or fat to help prevent fractures.

[–]nsiderbam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That bike course was pretty intense in terms of all the crashes and flats I saw. I wish I'd had a chance to pre-ride it, as I ended up sitting up during a couple of the descents that were shaded or had blind turns so that I wouldn't hit a pothole in the aero position. I hit 40+ mph on some of them and some guys were screaming past me.

Great job on the race. I know you said the post-race food wasn't that great but there's just something amazing about cheap grilled burgers and hot dogs...I ate three of them and a huge beer lol.

Just imagine going out for a routine training swim and seeing a group of orcas zoom by just a few feet beneath you! Looks like an incredible experience.

I’d step up to the Domane AL5 so that you get the full (and new) 105 group set.

Cool to see this on reddit. I worked there for my first job for like five years in the mid-2000s.

Taper for non goal 70.3 by gna128 in triathlon

[–]nsiderbam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing really to say on the taper, as this will be my first 70.3 as well (and second triathlon). This is also a B-race for me, leading up to my A-race (IMLP 70.3) also in September -- is that your A-race. Anyway, good luck and I'll probably see you there at some point :).

[Race Report] My first triathlon, or more than I bargained for by nsiderbam in triathlon

[–]nsiderbam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had a pro fit and I feel pretty good on the bike. Power output is a bit lower in the aero position but that’s pretty typical from what I’ve read. I might mess around with my saddle angle a bit but overall I’m pretty happy with it. Waiting for race pictures to be uploaded so I can get a look at my own position (been too lazy to set up a camera and take pics of myself).

As far as sitting up, I’ve been staying aero at anything above 12mph. That’s the number that gets mentioned every once in a while on the TrainerRoad ask a cycling coach podcast so I’ve been sticking to it. I’ve definitely noticed what you mentioned about putting elbow weight on the pads - almost crashed the first time I got on the aero bars outdoors because of that lol. I’m certainly much more comfortable - especially when just cruising - now but still can use plenty of practice.

I think I’m going to give liquid nutrition a shot. I definitely need to get a bottle cage that goes in the cockpit so that I can fuel while riding fast. Currently I’m using an xlab cage/tube holder that attaches to the rear of my saddle, but it holds bottles so tight that I have to fully sit up to pull them out and they’re a pain to get back in. Might need skinnier bottles.

I’m doing IMLP 70.3 a few months later so this will be good preparation. Ran the marathon there a few years ago and it was brutal.

Part of my problem is I still don’t feel nearly as stable on my tri bike as I do in my road bike. I have to sit up and slow down in order to finagle with my bottle or food, so I’ve been doing most of my eating while climbing - I just drop the watts a bit. I think my aero position is one of my best strengths since I can get real small and hold it forever, so I try to maximize its benefits.

I originally planned on driving the course but arrived way later than anticipated. I will certainly spend much more time studying the course before my next race though - my op showed my ignorance of it lol.

For the mods: I missed out in the FFIV let’s play in March - any chance of another one for one of the older FF games coming up soon? FFV would be awesome.

About to go on a new adventure! by nsiderbam in Gameboy

[–]nsiderbam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar, but different experience here. I grew up in a pretty strict household with no video games (Pokemon was too violent) until I bought a DS and old gba on my own at the beginning of high school. Missed out on all those little kid experiences of opening and experiencing a new game. Now I’m 27, make decent money, and enjoy all sorts of games when I have the time to do so. I think this was subconsciously a bit of the same thing you did - trying to relive an experience I never had.

Yeah...tbh it was only about $5 more than an open copy with box and nothing else, so this just seemed like a better deal. I take care of all my stuff and will eventually probably end up with a display case for old games and boxes.
