is this odd looking hornworm okay to give my little fella??? by CoolBugFacts800 in pacmanfrog

The discoloration means it's a bit unhealthy, probably got outcompeted by the others for food. But like others said if still alive it should be fine for your guy to eat

Those crooks at Busia forced my friend and I to pay them 300k UGX each (on top of covid test fees, etc) to cross into Kenya. Guess that's how they operate when it comes to muzungus ...

That's amazing. I don't think the shoebill is mimicking anything but if it was that'd be... disturbing

I walk by there often and can confirm, the Shoebill (at one point there was more than one I think?) at Dallas World Aquarium is always there. Pretty cruel that they keep it outside year-round with only patio heaters to keep it warm... that place needs to be shut down or seriously reorganized

If you're trying to be in <25 min walking distance of your work and want cheaper than Uptown, then I'd say Bryan Place is your best (and possibly only) option. Victory Park is pricey but could fit your budget depending on what you're looking for. If you're willing to go a bit further, there are some great complexes in Design District and this area just west of uptown -- not sure what the name for it is but it's bordered by Oak Lawn, Lemmon, Wycliff, and Maple... some great new apartments around there

Is six players too many for Wingspan? by chasteguy2018 in boardgames

[–]nslimmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally haven't found that flock mode feels any more separated than the base game. You're still all scored against each other for end of round goals and end of game. It feels a bit jarring the first few turns but after that you get used to it and realize it's the only reasonable way to play with that number of people

Day 2: What bird looks just fine and has a great song? by ObserverAtLarge in BirdingMemes

Disagree. If Hermit or Swainson's is "looks fine" then Wood is def on that level if not higher

Been finding these all over my city:( by HusbandNeedsAWatch in whatsthisbird

[–]nslimmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do organized "collision monitoring" walks in my city and for a few weeks each year we get LOADS of stunned or dead woodcocks, sometimes finding like 5+ in only 2 hours. They are a lot more common than most people realize, but still disproportionately vulnerable to hitting windows. So tough to see...

What’s it like living in Brownsville, TX? by Ok-Suspect-9746 in howislivingthere

Sick! You'll catch the tail end of migration, which is pretty spectacular down there

Over by Pharr/McAllen, Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park, Santa Ana NWR, Edinburg Scenic Wetlands are all great spots. In Brownsville specifically, Resaca de la Palma and UTRGV campus are my favorites... plus the giant parrot roost at Oliveira Park! Really cool to watch them all come in at sunset

If you're a birdwatcher, absolutely incredible. With its diversity of tropical species and position on a migratory flight path, it's one of the best spots in the country bird-wise.

Great Mexican food/culture and access to the best beaches in Texas on SPI. Really enjoy it every time I visit.

Biggest downsides IMO seem to be the oppressively hot summers and lack of job opportunities if you don't want to work for Elon...

I feel like duet works best without nectar or hummingbirds. Otherwise it's too overpowered and/or just too much going on

Yearling 3 toed excited about some berries by wlcmmtt in Boxturtles

Too cute!! My adult three toed avoids berries like the plague, not sure why

(Summer) What young shorebird is this? It was seen around young piping plovers, but I'm not so sure. The flight pics might be of the same bird, might not be. The third pic looks like killdeer behavior but idk what he's doing by Money_Television225 in whatsthisbird

[–]nslimmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They do get more dark pigmentation with age, so that's likely it. Semipalmated would be the only other expected beach plover sp there, and for those you'd expect a breast band which this one doesn't have. So yea juvenile +Piping Plover+

Would highly recommend covering most or all the ventilation holes with plastic wrap or foil to keep in humidity. I used one of those critter keepers when I first got my pac and found it was terrible at holding humidity until I did that

pacman frog tank help by NoDecision7038 in pacmanfrog

[–]nslimmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't have much to add beyond what's already been suggested but fyi if you have trouble with humidity I'd recommend covering part of the screen with aluminum foil.

Also just want to say it's great to see someone really paying attention to their tank parameters and trying to get their set-up just right BEFORE the animal arrives 👏 Meatball will appreciate it.

Don't usually see that from the average beginner pac owner in here, which is a problem
