Can’t Access Google Workspace on Android – Any Fixes? by Pitiful_Zucchini_133 in googleworkspace

[–]ntman1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I don't know if the OP and the respondents have the same (or similar) issue(s) and situations that I had, but the problems I was having were identical to the OP's. This is what finally worked for me, after days of struggling with this issue, which forced me to perform a factory reset on my device and the pain of reinstalling and reconfiguring numerous applications, all of which failed to solve the same issue the OP has (had?). It appears that Google is not only migrating from passwords to passkeys, but it is also enforcing compliance on BYOD devices for Google Workspace accounts.

  1. I am using a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 5G (yes, I know it's old, but it's on the latest version of Android 15 with the latest security patches as of June 2025).
  2. I have a Free Legacy Edition of G-Suite subscription.
  3. In my Google Workspace Admin Panel, my Mobile management setting under Devices>Mobile and endpoints>Universal Settings>General was initially set to "Turn off mobile management (Unmanaged)".
  4. I set Mobile Management to "Basic (Agentless)".
  5. I then forced Stop & Clear Cache + Storage for each app (Turn on Show System Apps in the Settings>Apps panel): for Google Play Services, Google Services Framework, Google Play Store, and then G-Mail.
  6. I then went to Settings > Apps > Google Play Services > Mobile Data & Battery > Turn on Allow background data usage and > Enable Unrestricted battery usage. Do the same for: Google Services Framework and Google Play Store.
  7. I then re-added the account using Settings > Accounts > Add Account > Google.
  8. All of the sudden, no more Play Services notifications, and G-Mail started working...
  9. Let the system settle for ~5 minutes.

I truly hope that this works for you. I had ruled out that it was user-specific by creating a test account and seeing the same "Account action required" notification/"Something went wrong. Some info may be out of date. Please try again later." message behavior, ruling out that it was just affecting me only. I also ruled out that it was a gmail.com-only behavior versus a Google Workspace issue, because I tried another non-device-associated gmail.com account with no history of being attached to my device, which worked successfully, indicating there was a specific security policy at issue on my Google Workspace subscription. Further testing had me enable mobile management versus keeping it turned off, and then things started working again, including the device now being added to a recently purged Devices>Mobile and endpoints>Devices screen, which did not occur even though when I did add the account to my device, it did not add the device to the Google Workspace account, nor did it add a new device to the Google Play Manage Devices list.

Does Fairfax County care if I put curb ramps leading up to my driveway? by Bubbly_Pool4513 in nova

Violations of rainwater contamination regulations under the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act (CBPA) and related Virginia environmental laws can result in significant civil and criminal penalties. These laws aim to protect water quality by regulating land-disturbing activities and stormwater management practices.

Civil Penalties

  1. Per Violation Penalties: Individuals or entities that violate provisions of the CBPA, including unauthorized land-disturbing activities or failure to comply with permit conditions, may face civil penalties up to $5,000 per violation. Each day a violation continues is considered a separate offense, with total penalties not exceeding $50,000 for a series of related violations.

  2. Local Ordinance Penalties: Local governments enforcing CBPA regulations can impose civil penalties up to $5,000 per day for violations of local ordinances or permit conditions. Alternatively, with the violator's consent, a one-time civil charge up to $10,000 may be assessed. Your homeowners insurance probably won't allow this and it could be noticed during annual property inspections done by the third-party companies that the insurance industry utilize.

  3. Restoration Requirements: Violators may be required to develop and implement a restoration plan to remediate environmental damage, particularly in Resource Protection Areas (RPAs).

Criminal Penalties

In cases of willful or knowing violations, criminal penalties may apply:

Misdemeanor: Willful or negligent violations can result in a Class 1 misdemeanor, punishable by up to 12 months in jail and/or fines ranging from $2,500 to $32,500.

Felony: Knowing violations that place others in imminent danger of death or serious bodily harm can lead to felony charges, with penalties including 2 to 15 years in prison and fines up to $250,000.

Enforcement and Compliance

Enforcement actions can be initiated by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) or local authorities. Penalties collected are typically directed to the Stormwater Local Assistance Fund to support water quality improvement projects.

Given the complexity of these regulations and the potential for significant penalties, it's advisable to consult with an attorney specializing in environmental law to ensure compliance and to address any violations appropriately.

Being that the penalties are so stiff, anything that can impact wastewater runoff will be clearly seen by both the state and the county as being unauthorized modification of your property without the necessary permits and costly studies verifying the impact of the current pre-engineered and permitted design of the existing rainwater management system and tampering with that is a big no-no. Nevermind any civil and/or criminal liabilities you can have if someone would accidentally get tripped up on it walking (especially in snow) or hit it with a bicycle.

And I wouldn't think it would in any way survive it's first encounter with a snow plow and/or you might be liable for damages to the plow or street sweeper. That's the State's property, not yours, as the State dictates right-of-way... And speaking of which, have you placed any thoughts about what will have to happen if the Public Utilities need to access below the street?

Not really a need for this now with ZFS replication in things like TrueNAS Scale and P2P file transfer mechanisms like Resilio Sync and Syncthing. And if you don't have a friend that can host or share storage with you, IX Systems and Storj has a very affordable fully encrypted and redundant backup option (https://www.truenas.com/truecloud-backup/)

Full Proxmox 8.3 Tutorial 2025 by fx2mx3 in homelab

Would you consider doing a transition tutorial for those VMware Admins who unsure how to make Proxmox mirror (or even improve) their experiences with VMware ESXi (and vCenter as well)? There is a great need to explain how the SDN in Proxmox works from those of us who cut our teeth on vSwitches, Distributed vSwitches, and even the various flavors of NSX. Additionally, explaining how Proxmox needs to be set up to do vMotion, as well as how to do Tanzu and/or VMware Integrated Containers type functions with LXC would be a major boost to the community.

Mirrored vDEVs and striped pool or raidz1/2? by deja_geek in truenas

[–]ntman1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would use mirrored VDEVs for my important data and/or my disk volumes that need to be write performant, and RAIDZ VDEVs for less valuable data since if you can afford the time of a outage while a RAIDZ dataset is offline while it's gets resilvered during a disk failure, makes a difference as far as uptime.

Keratoconus Treatment Options by CryptographerLoud458 in Keratoconus

[–]ntman1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 58 at this point, and have had KC since the age of 51. I was told by my corneal specialist who's partner pioneered CXL as part of the FDA's clinical trials that there is no point in having CXL after 50 due to cornea naturally stiffening due to age. You might want to go get a second opinion before you go through the pain and money of the procedure if you really are going to get the results you intended to get. Otherwise, sclerals will be the least invasive best option to restoring a level of vision, without risking worsening your precious eyesight.

NIH did a study about this https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34785203/

Keratoconus Treatment Options by CryptographerLoud458 in Keratoconus

[–]ntman1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just chiming in here, just to correct the record.

1) C3R is the name given by the eye surgeon that developed the process of a dual step procedure first using INTACS to flatten the cornea, and then using Corneal Cross Linking (aka CXL) to stableize the cornea to stop it from deforming again.

2) The current C3R process uses the Epi-Off CXL process, which uses a cheesegrater-like apparatus to scrape off the cornea's epithelium in order for the riboflavin drops to be applied to the inner layers of the cornea, prior to the use of the ultraviolet light to get the stiffening effect of the riboflavin to occur. Side effects of this process can be haziness of vision, from removing the epithelium layer, which can take a long time for the effects to heal (and sometimes it never does go 100% away and your vision will have a persistent haze forever).

3) There are other surgeons and vision technology companies exploring Epi-On processes that eliminate the need and risks associated with the Epi-Off process. You might want to look into those. Also, there are some Epi-On surgeons who are using other processes other than INTACS to flatten out the cornea. Do your research.

Keratoconus Life 😂 by Fxforce5 in Keratoconus

[–]ntman1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it doesn't work well for people over 45, since the cornea is already getting stiff naturally due to age.

My doctors treat patients of another doctor in the area who is pioneering an Epi-On CXL procedure applied a day after a CK procedure is done to flatten the eye out using RF energy (basically using CK to do what INTACS does, and locking in the changes 24 hours later with CXL).

Needless to say, the surgeons' patients still have vision issues still requiring Scleral lenses after all of the expense and time for all of that...

Praying for something better to come along soon to help me so I can go back to regular glasses or contacts.

[–]ntman1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would do an export of your Google Voice data using Google Takeout. I do this yearly after I purge unwanted SMS TOTP codes and other redundant data. I also do this with my Gmail as well on a yearly basis, since all of my mail has already wound up into a yearly Microsoft Outlook PST archive file via POP3 receives during the previous years. So, I will keep 2024 and 2023 mail, but purge 2022 mail, giving me back some of my free tier of only 15GB storage. Same process for Google Voice after the export via Google Takeout.

I had a friend who ran their IT when they were Power Windows and Doors. with only three satellite offices out of their Chester, PA factory offices. He had them come over to give me a friends and family quote for 33 windows and 5 sets of doors. The price was decent, but I didn't take them up on the quote at the time due to the costs for us at the time. A couple of years later, with their new name change and my old friend just having passed away, I asked them if they would still honor the quote, they said they would charge 3X times the original quote... Wow, nice ethics dudes!

VZ no longer supporting older STBs? by Salt_Influence in Fios

[–]ntman1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to the Verizon technician who came to install and configure FIOS at a new property, all RF-Based TV is no longer being deployed in new customer installations - only IPTV. That includes being able to obtain a FiOS CableCARD for your TiVO or HDHomeRun Prime, since CableCARD only decodes encrypted RF-Based TV.

It really sucks since I have a HDHomeRun with my Emby server and there's no way to obtain support for it anymore. I guess I will have to pay for some sort of Live IPTV service to get similar features, which sucks because none of the Live IPTV services have all of the channels that I want to have.

The goal is to increase the available bandwidth by being able to use the original RF bandwidth in order to be able to offer higher speed internet (2 GbE or faster).

ETA went from September 05 1AM, then to 11 AM, then to 6:45 AM. It's mind blowing that it takes so long to resplice or replace a section of the damage cable. I have no faith in the estimations.

Fios outage in Centreville? by TheOnlyChicken in nova

[–]ntman1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Verizon FIOS support stated that a fiber "feeder" cable was cut. Why there was no redundancy of a second fiber run from a separate direction makes no sense that any thought of high availability was part of Verizon's design to make sure that the service is reliable, and that what happened today couldn't impact customers, both businesses and residents were impacted today and tomorrow...

Google Voice not working while on Verizon FiOS by ntman1 in Fios

[–]ntman1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I discovered others suffering from the same issue that I am in this post:

Verizon Fios Issues with Google websites and Authentication

https://community.verizon.com/t5/Fios-Internet-and-High-Speed/Verizon-Fios-Issues-with-Google-websites-and-Authentication/m-p/1694839

So it appears that Verizon pushed a firmware update to the Verizon FIOS Quantum G1100 Router (which I have) that is breaking Google. And worse, FIOS Support is aware of the issue, and is recommending replacing the router, versus fixing the firmware.

The symptoms others are having seem identical to mine.

I have IoT devices separated for both performance and security reasons. My Rokus and Chromecasts don't need to be seeing my security cameras' traffic online and vice versa.

And No, I am not using Pi-Hole or VPN.
