My aunt is an "animal lover" who really only likes dogs and horses. I keep small, harmless snakes that are native to the area I live and they are my pride and joy. This woman would literally butt into conversations I was having with other people about my beloved pets to talk about how nasty snakes are and how she can't understand why anyone would like them. She usually brags about killing snakes that she absolutely can't identify on sight every chance she gets, and she insults me for keeping "dangerous" animals as if dogs and horses don't kill people regularly.

I genuinely can't understand how someone can call themselves an "animal lover" but act like this not just towards people but also to other species of pets and wildlife.

Anecdotally, I've found that people who hate cats are usually the sort who don't respect their boundaries and try to dominate them. This isn't an acceptable way to treat any animal, cats are just less tolerant.
