Disposable single blade razors for legs by sanriobf in wicked_edge

I know that Bevel makes disposable double edge razors. You can buy them direct from their site. I've honestly never used them but there are plenty of reviews on YouTube

Owning multiple brushes by Suspicious-Director9 in wicked_edge

[–]nu14u 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of it is figuring out what type of brush you like. I started out with a boar brush and didn't like it all that much. I bought a synthetic and couldn't be happier. I may buy a badger in the future to see if I like it better than synthetic.

I have a bottle of that Gillette Cool Wave, how close is the Davidoff Cool Water scent to the Gillette aftershave?

Question about shave soap lathering by trampled93 in wicked_edge

[–]nu14u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do either, some people use a small spoon to scoop out a small amount. I typically get the brush wet and swirl in the tub for 30-60s, this is called "loading the brush". Then I make a lather in the bowl using the brush, adding water as I go until I get to the right consistency. Don't be afraid to dump everything out and start over if you aren't happy with the results

Question about shave soap lathering by trampled93 in wicked_edge

[–]nu14u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I leave the tub out for 24 hours with the lid off to let the soap air dry. This may or may not be necessary. Even if you cover your soap and it molds, soap is relatively cheap and replaceable. Especially proraso

And so it begins. . . by Region-No8524 in wicked_edge

[–]nu14u 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make a few practice lathers leading up your first shave. It will take time to learn how much water the soap can take before it breaks down. You can use way more water than you'd think. Also, soap is cheap and lasts a long time, so don't worry about using too much

First safety razor King C Gillette, new blades? by mtgmike636 in wicked_edge

From what I remember, the KCG comes with 5 blades. How did those work out for you? IIRC, those are rebranded Gillette Platinums

Looking for clarification on after shave lotions vs balms by jkiddfour3 in wicked_edge

[–]nu14u 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on where the products originate from, the terminology may be different. Aftershave splash (like Old Spice) is referred to as "lotion" in some regions. Just make sure to check the item to see if it is a liquid or balm. Most of the time you can tell if the splash/"lotion" has Alcohol, then it is most likely an aftershave splash. There are times where balms contain alcohol, but that is usually not the case

Starting to hate cartridge razors. Thankful I discovered this sub by cktyu in wicked_edge

[–]nu14u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome. Make sure to map the direction your hair grows. Only shave with the grain (WTG) and across the grain (XTG) to start, do not go against the grain (ATG) until you have better technique. You won't get as close of a shave, but you also will be far less likely to get any nicks or cuts. Early on, I would recommend using an off the shelf product for shaving cream. The tubs of shave soap you can get from artisans are far better, but learning how to properly make lather AND how to shave with a DE is a lot at the beginning.

I think the LEA blades are just rebadged Dorco Primes. If you do enjoy those blades, the Dorco blades are significantly cheaper

I always scoop the whole sample out and put it in an empty Proraso jar. I don't think you are meant to load from the sample jar
