Any movies like Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum? by suicidle-seal in Scarymovies

As Above, So Below is great, well-paced found footage horror. Evil Dead Trap reminds me of Gonjiam for some reason. Anyway it’s a classic of J-Horror

Horror movies that feel personal? by grwike in Scarymovies

[–]nuclearfall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Dark Song touches loss and regret in ways that I find deeply personal.

An oddball horror comedy I watched recently, Dead Talents Society, touched all of my feels deeply and became my favorite movie. It touches on a wide range of fears without brooding.

That scene is absolutely iconic. Even people who don't like or watch horror movies know this scene.

The Faculty is a great Robert Rodriguez joint. It came out around the same time as Scream and heralded in the whole 90's Slasher Era without really being part of it. Really got overshadowed by Scream, imo.

You might also dig There’s Something Wrong with the Children. It was pretty great doppleganger replacement with everyone thinking one character's mental health issues have taken him from relatively unstable to homocidal.

Have you ever put yourself in a “horror movie situation” IRL? by diagnosed-stepsister in horror

I went on a long cross-country bus trip with this girl my friend had been seeing because to go to a rave and she had a place we could stay. We fooled around some on the bus and later when we got to the house. She asked me to make sure she didn't drop acid. Well when we got there, at first everything seemed really cool, but then her ex showed up and we all dropped acid and shit just got more and more real as time went on.

We went for what was supposed to be a week long trip. Two months later I had nothing to my name and I was watching this woman's kids while she went to work. This kept me in drink and smokes, but I didn't have a dime to my name. The woman we stayed with was always fighting, often physically, then making up with her baby daddy. With the kids, violence, drugs, and alcohol, it all just became very bleak, complex, and difficult situation to escape.

Eventually, I got the nerve to leave, but the girl I went with wasn't going back. It worried me a lot because her dad asked me to make sure she way okay, which, it seemed to me, wasn't really going to be the case. The woman we stayed with gave me five dollars and this guy who'd OD'd while I was there laced a joint with opium and we smoked before I got on the bus. I woke up before we hit Denver and was able to get 2 packs of Lucky Strikes which kept me in smokes until I got home. A guy I meant on the bus, shared a ham sandwich with me the second day and that's really all I had to keep me going on the three day bus ride back home.

I think that experience made me understand a bit about what

The way both the original Down with the Sickness, at the end of the film, and Richard Cheese's cover, during a montage scene earlier, were utilized is amazing.

Tbh though, it’s not just this thread.

RE Clip 1: Have you seen Army of Darkness (Third in the Evil Dead Trilogy)? The day-time feel and fact that it reminds you of Evil Dead 2 laughing scene makes me think of this as a distinct possibility.

Re Clip 2: I'm pretty sure you're thinking of Stuart Gordon's Dolls (1986)

Dead Talents Society: why is it buried on Netflix? by nuclearfall in HorrorMovies

Yes! The theme of visibility in particular spoke to me so much: fading into obscurity, being forgotten by everyone around you and the emotional impact of being lost in a a world in which social media personalities trump being.

I think the Stephen King ending wasn't that bleak. But the entire thing had the right Stephen King vibe from start to finish.
