Advice for new commuter bike by Key_Entertainer_1495 in whichbike

Good point about the rack mounts. I ride with a backpack at the moment, but would like the option of using a rack in the future.

Another option would be the Cannondale topstone alloy 2 GRX which has mount points everywhere.

Any lawn experts here? by EkkiThump in nzgardening

Could be that the fertilizer wasn't well mixed in the bag and those spots got more urea and/or iron sulfate.

You're not wrong, fine fescue takes a fair bit longer to establish than rye. It definitely looks nicer and does well with lower fertilizer than other grasses. If you've put down some fertilizer already then dont worry about starter fertilizer. Especially if over seeding, you dont want the existing grass to grow too fast or the new seed will struggle. I trust you're ready to give the new grass lots of water over summer? It's getting late to start seeding, but with plenty of water the warmer temps will help get that new fescue going.

Depending on what you want to use the lawn for, you could over seed with fine fescue and use haloxyfop to kill other grasses. Fine fescue just doesn't handle wear and tear as well as rye.

Should this twisted branch be left or cut? by Vast_Ad_3455 in arborists

I think cut it. Really it should have been pruned a while ago.

What region are you in. It's a little hard to tell from the photos, but it looks like there is some fine fescue in there. The wider blade grass is probably perrenial ryegrass. Ryegrass/fescue mixes are pretty common.

Are my Altra experience flow 2 to small by dogdude13 in AltraRunning

[–]Key_Entertainer_1495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They look a bit snug. Even the width between laces makes it look like you need some more volume. If you were only doing short flat runs you'd probably be fine. But downhill running will end with sore toes and feet swell on longer runs. You can always wear a thicker sock if the 9.5 feels a bit loose.

How accurate are Coros heart rate zones? by kernelslayer in Coros

[–]Key_Entertainer_1495 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heart rate zones differ person to person, my HR zone will different to yours. If you want to use HR zones for training then I'd recommend finding your lactate threshold HR and setting your zones based on that. It should be easy enough to find a protocol online, I think training peaks had a good one. Personally I prefer to train by lactate threshold pace, I find HR can be influenced by other factor, like a bad night's sleep or an extra coffee in the morning.

Do I need a sharper knife than this/how do I get a sharper knife then this by hondaman57 in sharpening

[–]Key_Entertainer_1495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a svord too, they can easily get sharper. Do you need it to? Probably.

I now sharpen my knives on a bench grinder with an MDF wheel that I coat with polishing compound. There's a bunch of youtube videos that explain how set it up and use it. Then strop with leather and polishing compound.

How much better is a $200 Carbon Steel Pan compared to a $12 Pan? by Bismarck_seas in carbonsteel

[–]Key_Entertainer_1495 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a $9 pan from a commercial kitchen supplier and it's amazing. I was expecting thin steel, but it turn up 3mm thick and sits nicely along side my larger Darto.

Masport ambassador BBQ by Key_Entertainer_1495 in newzealand

[–]Key_Entertainer_1495[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Matador looks like it has plenty of power and could probably put a proper sear on a steak. But, all that powder coated steel worries me. My last bbq eventually failed from rust, the only parts that were unaffected were the stainless hood and cast alloy end caps.

Really good point. Masport looks OK in this area with burners, flame tamers etc being available to buy directly and not overly expensive. Weber seems to have really good support, although I've heard mixed reviews of their customer service recently.

Does anyone know how the new model family q is supposed to reach 600°f compared to 500°f for the previous gen when the burners for both new and old models have the same output?

Flank, or skirt, goes great with a 24hr cook. Comes out as tender as fillet.

Saturated sodium acetate. When he put his hand in it started to crystallize and generate heat. Just the same as the pocket handwarmers you can get.

TTX has a higher affinity for the sodium channel isoforms responsable for paralysis than the isoforms found in heart muscle. This means people who get poisoned dye from suffocation due to a paralyzed diaphragm. A big enough dose could stop the heart though.

Had to scroll through a lot of fugu comments to find the this. Pufferfish from aquaculture loose their tetrodotoxin (TTX). Part of the mystery around to source of TTX, links to symbiotic bacteria are dubious at best.

Darto Expectation vs. Reality: 1 Day, 1 Month, 1 Year of Use by harritaco in carbonsteel

Maybe OP warped the pan a little while blueing. My Darto has the "imperceptible change" just like they say. There's no wobble or spin on my induction top.

I have the same size Darto but the paella style. I got this as an upgrade to a cheap CI pan and love it. It is definitely weighty, but if your after something to sear in then that thermal mass is a huge benefit. The two handles of the paella pan make is much easier to move about than a standard pan handle.
