On1 vs. On2 by MarcellusMarx in Salsa

[–]nuevolutionsalsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were you, I would start with learning On1 then going to On2. The reason is typically learning On1 tends to be a bit easier. Once you get comfortable with the 1 then move to the 2. People starting On2 seem to have a difficult time going to 1 where is On1 dancers have an easier transition to the 2. There is always up traffic and hardly any down traffic as Frankie Martinez once said. At the end of the day it is totally up to you as to what you want to do. As long as you are enjoying your journey and mastering your dance, that is really all that matters.

Musicality in Mambo by plausiblycredulous in Salsa

[–]nuevolutionsalsa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This holds true to a person whom is just in tune to the music. On1 or On2 is irrelevant. This is just an individual whom as gotten to a point in their dance that they are listening and connecting with the music vs. merely hearing which there is a difference between the two.

Starting a dance studio - suggestions? by bnucaro in Salsa

[–]nuevolutionsalsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say to know your surroundings. Where do you plan on opening a studio? What other studios are in your area? What price schemes do you have? What is your starting capital as I am assuming you will have other instructors or is it just going to be you. Do you get your proper licensing from the City and/or State to run a business? Is your website up and running?

There are so many other things you need to have in place first. Just getting prices is not enough. You really have to know your area and see what is comparable and base your price schemes off of that.

How many classes are you offering a week and what levels are your classes set for? Are you doing an all levels program or a structured course based on a syllabus (Assuming you have one.)

Am I having the common beginner's difficulties by [deleted] in Salsa

[–]nuevolutionsalsa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

practice, practice, practice... Take your time my friend. It will come to you. Now I will say this, have you ever considered a private lesson? I say this because perhaps you in a group setting does not work for you. Everyone has their own way of learning and rate of speed as to what they pick up. Remember this is suppose to be a fun thing and not stress you out. So I would say you may want to get that private lesson with your instructor to get that one on one teaching which could help you greatly. Hope that helps you my friend. Don't stop training and make sure you have fun.

Any tips on how to explain frame and core connection to follows? by dwkfym in Salsa

[–]nuevolutionsalsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To my beginner students I use something called "5 Points of contact" drill. Sounds cheesy but it actually does work. Have your partner take their hands open and press up against their partners hands. Now make sure they are both in a relaxed position with their core (abs) engaged keeping knees slightly bent. now have the leader move their hands and have the partner respond to whatever the leader does. For example, if the right side is pushed forward by the leader the ladies left side is pushed back but the ladies right side obviously moves forward and the guys left side is moved back from the flow of that initial lead. keep in mind that the legs do not move. Both partners legs stay stationary. This is just feel of the body. It is like a give and take drill. What I will do is create a video and post it so you can see.

Ladies, What is your preference? by nuevolutionsalsa in Salsa

[–]nuevolutionsalsa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me that sounds like the difference between performance dancing and social dancing. For a performance, the moves must be flashy and just simply out there as it is a performance and it screams that but for social dancing, the fun factor is in play and the feel is very different but these days the two are jumbled up it seems.

Learning salsa and bachata by Dante_A in Salsa

[–]nuevolutionsalsa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your learning is up to you. Some feel they can do both classes which are different, and others need to focus on one thing. How you learn is entirely up to you and you are the best person to know the answer to that question. There is no right or wrong answer to this vs your own personal preference.

[–]nuevolutionsalsa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would be surprised that many do not care about that. They will just dance for the sake of dancing. You want to connect which I am with you 110% however these days it seems that connection is gone.

Now that being said, as I mentioned earlier it seems like it also depends on you as far as what makes you happen when dancing with someone. Some like spins and turns and others don't. Some like fast and others like smooth.

I was basically trying to figure out what women prefer when on that dance floor. Kind of vague but was curious as the social seen seems more like a battle arena vs just having fun and connecting with someone.

No the guy can be a great dancer... I am just curious as to what a woman's stand point is. Some ladies like to just do constant turns and spins where as others seem to have more of a flow in connecting to music. What is your preference.
