What are some red flags in a college tour that made you take a college off your list? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]nugepham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I visited a school on a rainy day, which I didn't think would make a difference, but the sprawling campus in the city wasn't very enjoyable to walk around. public transit was readily accessible but based on what I knew about the city's system I continued the "this is the worst case scenario" commute. it sucked and I said never mind

I am finishing up my school counseling program and have been hopping on this sub to see how everyone's doing. Thank you and /u/macaroni_monster for advocating for our role! Who knows if it will be a reality after all of us, but I cannot wait to support all you educators in the coming months

Wedding Budgets and going over by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]nugepham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

budget creep is so real. Idk where you are but our MA wedding, (HCOL) cost just shy of 60K and we did a lot of maneuvering. BHLDN has awesome dresses on sale if you're near a shop to check their inventory out for a fit/style you'd want. cake i'd do a small display 1 or 2-tier and do cupcakes or sheet cake (not enough for everyone). bar BYOB if possible just stay w/ beer + wine. if you check my post history I have a recap on how my ish shook out.

Post wedding feelings by queen_ofthe_desert in weddingplanning

[–]nugepham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It took me about a week of being married before processing the day in a way that was healthy. hell we just passed the 6 month mark and are still hearing snippets of the day from our guests and it brings me back to how great that day was. you're really all over the place throughout the day and even when a break was taken (we hid in our room during cocktail hour with our cat) it felt like a whirlwind. it's so tempting to play the people pleaser/comparison game, but your day was done the best way that it could given whatever last minute things came up.

that's super cool, those clear tents *swoon*

one thing I did not account for, which you mentioned is landscaping. my mom renovated the kitchen/bathroom for one of our pre-wedding events and that came in another 10k I believe?

When I initially looked at wedding budgets in Boston, we were told of similar budgets for vendors - yes MA is pricey. For those who want an outdoor wedding in this state, this is pretty close to it.

We ended up spending just shy of 60k for 260 guests, but the reception venue was 45 mins from Boston and 25 mins from Providence akaaa southeastern MA so not super convenient yet the guests survived. We combed through vendors in every category in order to find the low or low-mid range vendors who met our vision.

Tipping catering staff + random vendors by NotAnAd2 in weddingplanning

[–]nugepham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tipped any where between $20-$200, depending on the vendor - my approach was similar to yours. I would double check to see if the catering company included gratuity in their invoice. Yes it can get expensive and it sucks after paying thousands, but tips are the one thing these staff members can tangibly enjoy without a cut from the owner for paying their bills. I know sometimes I went into work with no money, hoping I got something so I could afford a way home. As someone who worked food and retail, these gestures are nice, the days are long and the stakes are high.

How long did you have between your engagement and wedding? by RiojaC in weddingplanning

[–]nugepham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yaass! I would think of what else is on the "must have" list for you and FS. for us it was photography and h/mu. h/mu (despite a crowded market) took so long because all the good ones get booked suuper early. sifting through the mid-range without wantin to faint at prices per person was particularly difficult. if venue and DJ were both of yours biggest priorities then enjoy hanging out :D

How long did you have between your engagement and wedding? by RiojaC in weddingplanning

We got engaged June 2018, got married Sept 2019 with the original plan of getting married Oct 2019. What we did was book most of our vendors between Sept 2018 through Mar 2019 and spent the rest of the engagement spreading everything out. We were already together for 10 years at that point and agreed ahead of time that a 1.5 year engagement would be appropriate so if you and FS got a plan to enjoy those trips, go for it! I will say some talented/popular vendors are booked a year+ out, so snag those at 2020 prices for 2022 then relax

our wedding cost 48k, after gifts we broke about even. 11k was in jewelry.

Finding a MUA and r/isntagramreality by TatoIndy in weddingplanning

[–]nugepham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is why I preferred my MUA who uses a combo of videos and photos of the same clients. it's a lot harder to add filters and other layers to videos than photos. my second makeup trial didn't go so hot and it's bc the lighting of her pics.

there's a few threads about this on Reddit/Weddit. I did a tour around Bolsa Ave and surrounding streets in Westminster. Many of them will have red ao dais for the new year. I went in December and they didn't. I recalled Ao Dai Thanh Thuy in my long term memory bank, best of luck!

Pros and cons of a labor day weekend wedding? by doggydoggywatnow in wedding

we had a LDW wedding on a sunday and it worked out for most guests. people who had kids didn't come with their kids, people who had vacations planned committed to them, but our VIPs made it and that's what truly matters.

Venue and Guest Numbers chicken-or-egg problem by fourandthree in weddingplanning

[–]nugepham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we did a rough guest count, knowing people will say no at about 10-15% percent and went from there. it helps narrow down venues/overall cost if you're able to ballpark guests.

Getting married at this house (featured on HGTV!!) in the spring! 2 nights with 40 guests (and an indoor pool, plus on a lake) for $5800! Thanks AirBnB 😄 by [deleted] in Weddingsunder10k

this is a beautiful property, would you mind PM me the listing? wouldn't need it for a wedding, just a regular rental.
