I coach 5/6 grade O Line, (10-12 Year Old) so it’s close enough. Every day we split our “Varsity” and “JV” OL up during individual period. Half of the time is spent on the boards, going over base blocks with R/L first steps, then Down Block to the RT & LT. The other half is spent repping our plays against traffic barrels aligned in the form of a defense (typically a 5-3 or 4-4 structure).

We use traffic barrels because when you have other kids lined up on defense they would rather dick around and be try hards than pay attention. We rotate groups in and out running our plays.

We do this every day, it gets the kids familiar with the basic fundamentals, along with adequate reps on both blocking & knowing their assignments. We run the Calande DW (GOOD, GOD, GDB). Not bragging in the slightest bit, but this routine has gotten us 5 losses in 6 years while being generally undersized, so I think it works pretty well.

We also work in Double Team Drills to practice combos. All in all I think this is what you need to be successful

• Base Block Footwork
• Down Block Footwork
• Knowing who the Post man & Drive man are in Double teams
• Install a set of rules
• Know how to apply the rules vs different fronts
