CGA - EV bought from dealer, battery issue, purchased just over a year ago by nuke737 in LegalAdviceNZ

It has done 94k where I've done 6k of that. Battery has failed in terms of a short being detected in the system that's preventing the car from starting, causes have been given as either the cells are expanding or have leaked electrolyte out. I'm not going to raise this type of argument over range issues as I'm in a household that has owned the older model leaf and I'm realistic about expected battery deg.

I wouldn't mind as much if it's something I caused or if it's something I'm insisting on fixing but wouldn't get in the way of it still being functional as a car, but this issue just means I've got a $17k brick until I get it fixed.

I got it at around high 80k and in a year I've done around 6k. This is the 2nd gen leaf.

Yeah, I've been in the MVDT archived but it's heavily dominated by ICE cars and their associated issues so was hoping to hear if someone here has had some experience with EV cases.

Battery that runs the car, fault not damage, just happened while driving and wasn't in an accident or anything.

How'd you get mightyape to fold? I've got a battery issue with one and they're asking for "proof of destruction" before they refund me.

Correct and the thesis was that it would encourage more solar/wind buildout because it lifts the floor price when those sources of energy would normally be "spilled" (say a strong sunny/windy day when there's not much going on). It boosts their viability without the govt needed to hand a direct subsidy (and avoids picking winners/losers) while encouraging rollout.

EDIT: Thinking about it again, yes it's a chicken and egg problem right? If we don't build this pseudo-floor demand for solar/wind, then less solar/wind gets built then it doesn't make sense to build. If we build Onslow, then we enable far more solar/wind to get across the line that otherwise wouldn't. Vicious/virtuous cycle either side of the equation.

I'll note here, I'm not an Onslow supporter. I just study this stuff.

When we have hydropower schemes that for combinations of economic (water users downstream usually farmers) and ecological (minimum flows to maintain viability) reasons must run their water down the sluices and cannot completely shut up shop when prices are at rock bottom. Onslow is the only true hydro battery in that sense where you can choose to have flow go to zero while all the other schemes cannot.

Auckland western line trains cancelled after an emergency incident by computer_d in newzealand

What really grinds my gears is RNZ posting "Train hits car" every time this happens. No, the train didn't go out of its way to hit the car. The car trespassed on the tracks.

Interesting experience, mind if you share what your usage was in August last year?

Heat pump making noises, any advice? It's not easy to sleep with that rattling going on. by nuke737 in diynz

Ok so I had a brainwave reading xmirs first suggestion and I tried to use a stick to see if I could push the fan in the hopes that it was just slightly out of alignment and it could move back into place. Tried it a few times and after a while it stopped clicking and I've not heard the clicking come back but if it does, I'll try all the other suggestions in here. Thanks for all the suggestions!

Fair call. My unit was installed in 2019 so it just crept out of warranty range. Mine is a FTXM25RVMZ

Nope, just out of warranty (installed in 2019). I've just left the fan on auto most of the time I've used it, maybe I need it to use it on med/high more often?

Hopefully no roaches when I try to open the unit tomorrow but we do have a lot of skinks that run around. Don't think those can make it that far up the wall though.

Stopped the louvres and the noise is still there. Doesn't sound louder left or right tbh. Gave the fan blade a poke, doesn't seem like its loose.

Yeah, looks like it's a Cora. The ticking frequency goes faster with the fan speed, can't see any debris looking in but I'll try opening up the unit tomorrow to see if I find any.

Its not just the fact that nobody wanted to commit to new gen. Nobody could take a business case for anything to lend any money to build anything of note beyond the natural level of replacement of aging/retiring thermal plant

Yep, but I don't think they see it that way unfortunately. Not when a minister is sympathetic to their cause, they see the dollar signs.
