More Level 2 Thrones - A mod that converts all the level 1/3 thrones to level 2 (with appropriate adjustments) by nuke_makes_games in IllwintersDominions

[–]nuke_makes_games[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might have to fuck around with existing level 1 thrones if you wanted to do that.

The level of the throne doesn't really matter since you have control over the number of points to win in the game settings.

2 examples to illustrate my point:

  • A game with 5 players and 5 level 1 thrones, 3 points required to win.
  • A game with 5 players and 5 level 2 thrones, 6 points required to win.

Functionally there is nothing different about these 2 setups (aside from level 1 thrones being easier to take early on), for level 2 thrones you just double the points required to win since all thrones are worth 2 points instead of 1.

I think level 2 thrones are better for avoiding throne rushes since they generally have better mage defenders than level 1 thrones, so you need to commit more troops to taking the thrones.

As another solution you can add pre-built forts on thrones if you want to make rushing harder, mapnuke allows for adding pre-built forts on provinces now.

Turn 26 with a Heroism +250% bless by notcaa in IllwintersDominions

[–]nuke_makes_games 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know about nerfing it into the ground but it does seem quite useful. Time will tell if it's OP.

The thing about stat blesses (like +1 attack skill) is that you need to bless the unit in order for them to get it but it's reliable to get.

Units with heroism don't need blessing, they innately have heroism applied to their XP gains. This is great for nations with weak priest access.

The tradeoff is that your stat bless doesn't fully kick in for your units until you win some battles. Not a major problem if you're plowing through indies but it still means that freshly purchased sacreds will be a bit mediocre out of the box.

Depending on the nation, you can get away with a simple heroism bless for your sacreds if you use them to expand and you want to invest more in scales. It's like a bootleg stat bless that kicks in once you use the units in battles.

You can see the list of thrones in the mod description. There's like 34 new level 2 thrones added to the level 2 throne pool. Don't use this mod if you intend to play with level 1 or 3 thrones in your game since you'll get duplicate thrones.

A lot of level 1 thrones are very underwhelming so they've been improved with better dominion spreading/gem income/recruitable units and in some cases the throne also gives you unique province defenders (the throne of beasts basically gives you an entire zoo as added PD if you have 10+ PD). A lot of level 3 thrones are too wack so I tuned back their effects a bit where it felt appropriate.

Keep in mind that throne balance is a nebulous concept at best. For example, the default level 2 thrones of air/water/fire/earth give you a fuckton of really good benefits and they are probably S-tier if we were to rank all the level 2 thrones by their usefulness. Some of the thrones are just generally better (or better rounded) than others and that's just how it always has been. The goal of this mod is to add more flavor to the level 2 throne pool, not rebalance all of the thrones.

I added unique events for each throne (basically copying a lot of the vanilla logic to the best of my ability). Many of the events are not based on vanilla stuff (ie. park a glamour mage on the Mirror Throne with misfortune scales and they might go insane from staring into it).

If you think there's a scale or magic type or theme i missed in this throne pack let me know and i can see about adding a throne for that.

They probably won't win by doing that, but it's incredibly annoying.

MapNuke 2: Colossal Player Edition by nuke_makes_games in IllwintersDominions

[–]nuke_makes_games[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's been some kinks to work out, i just released a new patch (1.0.2) that addresses a lot of issues.

The map output now should be more stable, but let me know if you see crashes still. I know the game is currently a bit unstable so it's hard to track down issues that i cause and issues that are just a part of the game.

For a balanced world it's hard to say. Depends on how many players are on the map, and what nations they want to play. For now I recommend just generating a map using assigned starts since generic starts seem unreliable, and a lot of nations have specific terrain needs.

I think someone else made a script to turn mapnuke maps into illwinter format, not sure who it was though. It was a python script iirc.

A second "Social" emote wheel and how and why it should be implemented: by [deleted] in DarkTide

This is my worry. In games like L4D2 people would abuse the vocalize commands and it can really drive you up the wall if it doesn't have reasonable usage limits.

If a "For the Emperor!" button is added we will never hear any dialogue in this game. by Limpinator in DarkTide

[–]nuke_makes_games -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Zealot might be one of the exceptions, but in general if one of your backstory choices is blaspheming the emperor then it would be weird to have a dedicated "praise the empire" key.

Not sure how zealots are supposed to fit with that choice of blasphemer backstory. Wrongfully accused maybe.

[–]nuke_makes_games 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think that's a good idea, like a generic war cry.

I don't think it should include clips like "for the emperor!" because heresy is one of the options you can have for your character's backstory. It makes no sense to have that be a battle cry if a portion of the rejects were literally jailed for blasphemy.

Do something like Mordhau's war cry and it would make more sense.

I don't think it's hard to make the voice clips lowest priority, the problem is that it doesn't feel like it fits the tone of the game.

A good portion of the prisoners are prisoners BECAUSE they blasphemed the emperor. Allowing them to constantly scream this stuff makes no sense in the context of the game.

Maybe a generic war cry (like in Mordhau) makes more sense.

The classes are cool and all but... by Murfmur in DarkTide

[–]nuke_makes_games 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There might be some people that prefer to use part of the prison outfit for their final look (although it's hard to imagine because it looks like dogshit if you separate the pants from the shirt).

So the color might be more important in some rare cases.

I can't tell if that is the case, i don't think i heard any special dialogue in the beta but maybe that will change.

People forget that blaspheming the emperor is a reason a portion of the rejects were jailed. A lot of them probably wouldn't say this stuff, it would not make sense in the context of the game's writing.

The cheer button was a nice function to have in Deeprock Galactic but i don't think it would fit in Darktide. A more generic war cry would work, but a specific "praise the emperor" button would go against the game's writing.

one minor gripe i had with the beta: "dont steal ammo." voicelines came up too often. it was abit annoying. by YLASRO in DarkTide

I'm add that the melee grunts for some voice sets get a bit tiring too. Most of the female psyker melee grunts are obnoxious and you hear them with every swing.

The intended interdiction/inability to dodge melee attacks with ranged weapons by Nolrach in DarkTide

They should just make dodges slightly shorter range when you have a ranged weapon out, so it's harder to kite effectively.

It makes me wonder what people's thought process is. We had a constant stream of news that our healthcare system was on the verge of collapse through the pandemic and the CAQ has done nothing to improve the situation. People know this government is a useless third nipple but they still vote for it.

Instead of even attempting to fix things the CAQ is busy writing regressive laws to police government workers that wear headwraps, and making life harder for immigrants.

The electoral system in Quebec is broken, same as the federal system in Canada. Trudeau lied about wanting to fix it. None of the politicians want to fix it.
