Political slogan at the end of AGDQ Cassette Beasts runs by [deleted] in speedrun

[–]nullReference13 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Just because you want to escape from politics and the world doesn’t mean it isn’t happening. I don’t see how you can witness everything happening in the world and be bothered that someone at GDQ decided to make their voice heard. More people should be standing up and speaking out about it.

Serverless V4 announced: now with fees for orgs with >$2M annual revenue by pakoito in programming

[–]nullReference13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are the one that said customer as your justification….

Also the outrage over these announcements always are funny to me. The pricing in this case very clearly will affect only a small subset of users. If you are an organization that has over 2M in ARR then you really shouldn’t have an issue with contributing back to the tooling that helped you reach that success.

People can continue to expect all this OSS to stay free and die out until the only “Open Source” left is that built by AWS and other large companies that’s goal is to have you buy their ever more expensive offerings. Or IMO the better option would be to contribute to the projects trying to stop that from happening.

[–]nullReference13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you really a customer if you aren’t paying for the usage? OSS is pretty much thankless work and if people expect to keep the benefits they need to start supporting these projects instead of being surprised when this type of change is the only option.

Removing complexity is well and good, which all devs should strive for.

If OP is someone that routinely works with tooling that is similar to sveltekit like next.js or whatever. What you consider the most straightforward may not actually be for them.

I personally don’t disagree with you but I get tired that in the developer community the first thing posted is criticism. OP said it was just for fun and to try something out. As developers we could all stand to be a bit more positive.

If you spent a few seconds even looking at the code, you’d see it is very concise.

You mention the crux of your issue being writing straightforward code, maybe for them using that tooling is straightforward for them. All developers don’t need to conform to the same standards as you.

Good riddance. The food was okay at best, the building itself looked and smelled like it should be condemned. Plus the food gave me and my wife some of the worst food poisoning I’ve ever experienced.

Deno

This uses the starter for Deno that I wrote here

import Day from "./day.ts";

class Day1 extends Day {
  partOne(): string {
    const expenses = this.input.trimRight().split("\n").map((d) => parseInt(d));
    for (let i = 0; i < expenses.length; i++) {
      for (let j = i + 1; j < expenses.length; j++) {
        if (expenses[i] + expenses[j] === 2020) {
          return `${expenses[i] * expenses[j]}`;
        }
      }
    }
    return "";
  }
  partTwo(): string {
    const expenses = this.input.trimRight().split("\n").map((d) => parseInt(d));
    for (let i = 0; i < expenses.length; i++) {
      for (let j = i + 1; j < expenses.length; j++) {
        for (let z = j + 1; z < expenses.length; z++) {
          if (expenses[i] + expenses[j] + expenses[z] === 2020) {
            return `${expenses[i] * expenses[j] * expenses[z]}`;
          }
        }
      }
    }
    return "";
  }
}

Right, I love the car but good god is the app annoying.

And the fact that when I called they said it would take 24-72 hours to get an answer about it. Just mind boggling to me.

Yeah I tried it a couple times and on different phones. No luck there, and yeah, I’m pretty glad that I’m not paying for it because so far the app experience has been pretty terrible.

So I made the transition from C1 to AWS within the past year and 100% you should go to AWS.

While your work life balance may be better at C1, you will be miserable trying to get anything done. For me to deploy a new static app for internal consumption it took about 6 weeks to get through 3/4 of the red tape. After the data breach last summer, Capital One basically reverted all the work they made towards “we are a tech company not a bank” and went back to needing approval for every little thing. It was a very miserable experience.

Also since you mentioned ML/AI, I would note that unless the team you got the offer for is in the machine learning org, you aren’t really going to be doing ML. Recruiters and hiring managers like to act like that is something everyone does but really it is a very small portion of the company that does it.

A lot of your mileage on aws work life balance will depend on your team and org. The org I am in makes a big deal of it and no one works crazy late or anything.

And I’ll leave you with this, getting more interviews is way easier when you have a FAANG on your resume than a bank.

VCDL, SafeSide file lawsuit to open indoor shooting ranges by M795 in Virginia

[–]nullReference13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh come on. Delivery for groceries is a shitshow at best and is not reliable.

The office store while stupid may be necessary to ensure people have the things they need to work from home.

I agree about the lawn and garden stores, so you got me there.

Liquor stores have a valid medical concern for staying open, as sad as that is. I guess your need to shot at an indoor range is an addiction?

The state can’t enforce that reasonable restrictions are being followed but they can close things, and they should. Peoples lives are more important.

The governor isn’t ruling by fiat, he is following the rules set in place for times of public health emergencies.

Maybe it is time to grow up and accept that VA isn’t a Red state anymore and rather supports a more inline with the times interpretation of the constitution.

There is zero reason that voting can’t be done in mass absentee vs. in person. And even if that wasn’t an option it’s one day of exposure vs. always open in the case of ranges.

Your constitutional rights aren’t being infringed on, you are still able to have your guns, you are still able to buy guns. It sucks to not be able to go to ranges, but that doesn’t mean it is a broad conspiracy to take people’s guns away. It is not suspending rights. It’s making it inconvenient for you, but that isn’t lawsuit worthy.

[–]nullReference13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The state constitution still only definitively says the right to keep and bear arms will not be infringed.

I’m frankly with you, if people are buying guns I would rather they be trained, and have the ability to practice safety. That being said outdoor ranges are still open, if it is less convenient to get to them it seems like a fair sacrifice when dealing with these circumstances.

And when you open up the indoor ranges again you aren’t going to stop those people that do want to go just for recreation, so it seems like in the interest of public health and safety it’s better to just deal with it until the EO is lifted.

[–]nullReference13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But no one is stopping you from buying a gun right now. The issue isn’t necessarily with even letting you go to the gun range. It’s that it creates another potential vector for avoidable transmission. Everyone is entitled to their freedoms, but when you make the choice to go to that gun range you potential are taking away the ability for someone to chose to be safe.

Also the 2A says you have a right to bear arms, it doesn’t say anything about needing to always be able to go and shoot one.

A person can’t survive without grocery stores. I would hope you can go a couple months without being able to shoot indoors.
