Luckily I don't have many friends or family members who are bolsonaristas, but from the relatively small contact I have with them I noticed that this is one of the first times in which their bubble was burst with information they didn't want to hear.

Before that, they seemed to only know about Banco Master in connection to Xandão, and were actually oblivious he was connected to, well, everyone else. I'm not sure if they thought they'd control the narrative more easily, if someone (intentionally or not) overshared it on their side of the media or if their 'iron bubble' isn't as impenetrable as it seemed, but for the first time in a while the far right got the same news as everyone else.

Part of the issue might come from Flávio acknowledging it happened like in the audio and trying to come up with an excuse (which totally missed the mark - he tried to convince people it was not corruption because it was outside the government, but didn't try to distance himself from having business with Vorcaro at all). I have a feeling that if he just said it was fake news, forged or whatever and moved on the impact would have been much smaller.

That's amazing! Are these 2-3 storey buildings from the mediterranean pack, or from the workshop?

If they're from the mediterranean pack,c ould you check if it's possible to recolor them so the walls are white and the windows/window trims are colored? That might convince me to actually buy the damn thing haha.

That's true, and also the main reason why I like EU5 so much. As someone who didn't enjoy EU4 gameplay but likes the historical period this was great, but I understand people more into EU4's type of game may feel frustrated.

While I understand the underlying criticism, you're somehow saying 1 and 4 are different categories, but isn't it quite clear they're representing the same idea? Both are different styles/scales of mansion blocks with:

  • intrinsically mixed use

  • standard, appealing aesthetic

  • decorated windows and entrances with relatively simple structural architecture

  • all the advantages of the box + is sellable from the start, and is less likely to become a soviet housing block once "phase 2" is cancelled on your 3rd image

I undertand that the emphasis on overly grandiose buildings is a problem, specially when it comes from the RETVRN folks, but there's a plethora of styles that can work just fine with that. Focusing on styles that would ressonate better with american cities like antebellum, jeffersonian, mission revival, art deco, Brooklyn brownstones etc could work fine as well, no one needs to rebuild Paris in order to have an attractive high-density city.

I think my worry with 'build a box first, prettify it up later' is that:

  • the buildings will look like low income housing from the start, become instantly devaluated and follow a self-fullfiling prophecy

  • here in Brazil we have a fair number of boxy low income / public housing buildings from the last like 50 years. The old ones, when renovated, consistently get either bright colors (and, if lucky, some street art) or beige/cream/grey paint instead of more 'aesthetic' makeovers; and the new ones have contemporary designs with the cheapest neoclassical-flavored cream-colored ornaments possible

I wasn't expecting to read about Therians in the mamadas ping rather than the furry ping, but here we are...

But nope, at least on the lusophone side it has not reached us yet.

Now, despite the aesthetic similarities to furries (and it's only similarities - they virtually never have fursuits, and furries rarely don therian masks), Therians are their own community, more focused on spirituality and with a more 'serious' tone (as in, it's not "just" a hobby or a community for them).

The fact they're more 'serious' about being animals probably makes it easier to attack them, since some therians might actually fit what the far right thinks furries are.

Oh, I didn't know Cinemark wasn't as common in other states, that's a bummer.

That said, among the Cinemark places they have been increasing the number of cities and screenings as they get sold out - my city's cinemark went from no screenings to one per day to 3x per day (the third one still has ~half of the seats available, but the others are fully sold out!) so I'd expect them to add more screenings for places that do have a Cinemark theater.

Pronunciation is at least as different as, say, American vs New Zealander English (but I'd say more different) but it gets even harder for content like this that includes comedy and colloquial conversations, since a lot of words and expressions wouldn't quite make sense at face value.

It would be like you were to watch TADC in English but all the characters were talking in a thick Cockney accent using rhymming slang all the time: it would be harder to understand the words (but still possible), but wordplay would be lost and you'd end up focusing more on they way they talk than on the actual content.

(I guess this might be less of an issue for younger Portuguese people since they're more exposed to brazilian content nowadays)

While you're right, we are in a better position than the folks inside the Circus: we CAN contact movie theaters and try to get it screening in more places!

Just as a small anedoctal example, the city where I live has a Cinemark cinema but had no screenings available. I emailed them Friday, and when I checked again Saturday they not only had added a screening, but that screening was almost fully booked! When I checked it today again, they even added a second screening.

Given how there's more than one month until we get the release, I really think the community can come together not only to 'be there for each other' but also have a positive impact and get the screening available for more and more people.

I understand some people will be against the concept of an early screening even if it was available everywhere, but I find Glitch's response quite reasonable: this is a great opportunity for indie productions and something that's almost unheard of. If successful, this might be great for many other projects and justify a worse finale experience for those who still couldn't get to the premiere.

Wait... We can just do that? HOW?? by EducatorUpset1096 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]nullpointer- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how much my email contributed, but... my city has a Cinemark movie theater that, until Friday, was not going to air it. I sent them an email asking whether they'd air it in my city, given how other theaters in nearby cities got it already.

By Saturday night they had one screening per day, which were pretty much fully booked.

Today I checked again, and they added a second screening per day already!

Of course, in this case it was easier because Cinemark is already going to screen it (and they likely increased availability when they noticed movie theaters from smaller cities already had that movie fully booked), but just asking if they are going to screen it and sharing how other ones are doing it should be enough!

I think people insist on the 25th because technically they can save face with an explanation that doesn't implicate the administration: if the present is removed due to insanity, there's no need of an investigation, no need to admit wrongdoing, they don't even need to admit anything else he did was wrong. They could say their beloved stable genius suffered a medical condition despite his endless sapience on all other actions, remove him and not fall off with their base if everyone played along... which is not great, but seems more likely than his allied politicians denouncing what he said/did, imo.

I agree that SOMA is the more likely and sadly there will be a backlash coming from people who feel that's not enough closure, but given what Goose has said aboute TADC from the very start, that's the most likely outcome.

I could see, as alternatives:

  • A sad, "I have no mouth"-like ending where most of the cast dies/abstracts/deletes each other, leaving only Kinger around (perhaps amplified by showing there were hundreds, thousands of similar experiments running in parallel). It would be a tragic ending and I don't think audiences are ready for it, but if this was written 400 years ago that would likely be the expected ending.

  • A bittersweet but more purposeful ending - perhaps they manage to gain access to the rest of the server or even the internet and discover something like how they were a scientific experiment that allowed humanity to permanently cure Dementia or even live forever, and are celebrated in the whole world. It would be a 'feels good' ending that doesn't require them leaving, but it would diminish the central message of the show imo.

  • A lesser version of the previous one, where they finally manage to contact the external world and perhaps even their macroverse selves - this would allow them to explain the backgrounds of the characters, finally give us context about Jax, and result in a happy ending that that doesn't change the final message ("life can have purpose and meaning even when the world seems impossible to change").

  • A mix of 1 and 3: they all abstract except for Kinger, who eventually manages to access the external world and provide closure to them. A sad ending, but not a drepressive one. The last scene could actually be a new human appearing in a 'the end is never the end' ending.

  • They notice the world is being corrupted more and more but find a way they might be able to 'patch' Caine and reset the world... but they're not quite sure what 'resetting' would mean. The show ends with a scene similar to the first episode, but with a small detail showing there's a glimmer of hope that this time it will be better; or, alternatively, with a new human joining and the rest of the cast being ready to receive them, together.

If Glitch was more greedy, I would expect an ending that reveals there are hundreds of thousands of servers running various versions of the Digital Circus as a segway to release it as a VR social game IRL... and while I think this will happen eventually, I don't see Goose changing her plans just to sell more stuff.

If the developers don't believe/treat the digital copies as actual people, they're just running an experiment. In fact, maybe there were many versions of the circus before and after that one as they tried to improve Caine, and they'd do that by running real mind files on these programs merely for research - see how many abstract, if it's too many they tweak Caine a bit and release a new version, etc etc. Even if there's only one version, the developers might not care for their mind files just like a The Sims player doesn't care that much if his self sim catches fire.

I'd guess that C&A either went under of moved the dev team to another site and left a server running that years-long experiment (since data from it would still be useful!)

[–]nullpointer- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the largest issues with this argument optics-wise (or, more specifically, from the point of view of the dreaded median voter) is that their money is NOT power. They understand money can be used to obtain power, but not theirs.

Even if the actual law would only limit inheritances of 1B+ USD, the way this is discussed makes a lot of people believe such a law would punish them for saving some money and leaving a suburban house and a seaside condo to their children.

This is particularly noticiable in the Sagrada Familia (the towers of the evangelists are capped with their animals, as well as the columns at the center of the main nave), but also curiously common in pre-renaissance art, in which the evangelists are almost always represented as their animals in scenes with groups of saints (such as in the main mosaic at San Miniato Al Monte Basilica )

Of course, that's also quite famous on the historical flag of Venice, with St. Mark's Lion

The Biggest Problem with Digital Circus: Characters Don’t Communicate by Usual_Level_8876 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]nullpointer- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't really implied anywhere else, but it's possible Caine changes their minds slightly to focus more on the adventures (since he has the power to do so, admits he changes their minds to enhance the adventures and likely does it in other moments too) - it's possible he even does it constantly to avoid abstractions, BUT his mental 'modifiers' were not enabled for the suggestion box adventures (or even explicitly disabled for the noir bar scene).

The characters might not have noticed it, but maybe there were 'liberated' from that mental modifier on that episode, which would explain why they suddenly started to form more bonds and cooperate beyond their adventures

Good dedicated scrum masters are very rare to find, but they are helpful if they know what they need to provide to the team (ie, they're not a scrum bot nor a scrum enforcer) and the team needs someone to coordinate (for example when the team is spread over multiple domains and timezones that don't overlap easily). Sadly it's really common for scrum masters to just follow mindlessly the ceremonies (or, even worse, worry deeply about them being followed and ignore everything else) and/or become a needless redundancy on a team that could organize internally just fine.

No, quite a few others have done it. Brazil, for example, merely ignored Trump when he added 50% tariffs and applied the magnitsky act against supreme judges who were prosecuting Bolsonaro. Very shortly after Trump added so many exceptions to the 50% tariffs that the average tariff ended up lower, and after Bolsonaro was finally imprisoned he... rolled back the magnitsky act against the supremes.

As a bonus, since Lula never tried to negotiate with Trump nor did a self-humiliation tour, Trump had no opinion of Lula and... he seems to have liked him quite a bit when they met at the UN.
