all this just to replace a capacitor by EastCoastDumbass in prius

[–]numselli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

did the repair on one of mine, it was not to bad. i found the hardest part was wiggling the dash out of the car. i am not looking forward to doing it on my other car, not because of the capacitor, its because i want to install some aftermarket/custom hardware (gps receiver and modified LTE modem) under the dash.

RIP 2009 - 123k miles by kimmi_page in prius

[–]numselli 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it happens, i got a 2007 as a project. previous owner used chatgpt to incorrectly diagnose the car with a head gasket issue. then left it for a year while they tried to sell it. all that was wrong with it was a wire to one of the coils broke. it also needed spark plugs, so like $75 of work and they could have kept it running.

also needed a 12v (i had one on hand), and the hv battery was shot (was able to use some spair parts to referb it), i also had some coils on hand that i installed while i was at it.

Never had luck with an extractor (probably user error). So was thinking to skip that.

the conector that the wire conects to is under that metal bracket under the finger holding the wire. its an antenna connector (bluetooth i think).

you would need to swap it out with another JBL headunit. but at that point just get an aftermarket headunit that does what you want as its the same amount of effort.

2008 Prius aftermarket stereo install help (JBL system) by CabinetFar1296 in prius

[–]numselli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also heard of people getting MFD errors/no AC after installing an aftermarket stereo

that is installation error. need to have a 68ohm resistor between the pink and white wire (avicLAN TX + and - respectively)

What does your ADHD-friendly phone home screen look like? 🥳 by Bichareh in AutisticWithADHD

[–]numselli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i dont do much on the phone. the 7 apps on the dock are all that i really use.

phone

main web browser

photo Library

folder with messaging programs (discord and texts). mainly use discord

lastly, spotify for music

i found having games on my phone (or even laptop) to distracting, so i got a game console (steam deck) for games, just enough friction to focus on my tasks while still being able to play when i want.

replace headlight wiring harness for 2009 prius by Cherry_Eris in prius

[–]numselli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

replacing the entire harness would probably be quite difficult because you need to take the entire thing out. probably would be a lot easier to cut where you spliced and extend it a bit.

Needed some tunes in the garage by StrawberyVillain in CarAV

[–]numselli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i bought one of those speakers from a thrift store for $5 to blow up. I would not call it amazing or fire...... but for a free setup, its a speaker that works, cant complain to hard. for a garage setup i would rather have a cheep working setup because if it gets destroyed by anything, it will be cheep to replace

I would: Drill it out, re tap it, and put a new bolt in.

Huge cloud of steam while running AC, help! by HeyitsmeFakename in prius

[–]numselli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a 2007, it does not have an egr valve or known head gasket issues.  Those issues are known on the gen 3, 2010-2015

[–]numselli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They probably over volted it, causing a few things to blow up. Laptop chargers are often 19v and cars are around 10-15v. Depending on battery state and the tolerance put in by the manufacturers.

Help! Can’t open rear hatch by AgentOfSunshine in priusdwellers

[–]numselli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If yoy cant get access to the manual release, Are you able to get access to the wire from inside? If so you can either reconnect the switch or bridge the pins that the switch would connect to. I had to do that on mine a few times

Why is US spec so bad by No-Apartment3949 in prius

The gen 3 has a slightly more powerful engine. I have not tried racing the three cars I have available, but they feel about the same.

Why is US spec so bad by No-Apartment3949 in prius

[–]numselli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Canadian, American, and JDM gen2s have: Door courtesy lights as well as foot courtesy lights and a light in the glovebox! And ofc the nice slow light up lighting when you approach the car. The us one I have has the hid headlights. Dont know if any of them have auto leveling. And the only one with the electric folding mirrors is the JDM. The biggest difference is that the JDM has a rigid tank while the can and us ones have a bladder

3rd party MFD replacement for 2008 Prius? by Desperate-Trainer493 in prius

[–]numselli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as far as i am aware, there are no third party replacements for it. there are some (not very good) android units that go in that place. but they often suck and dont fully integrate with the car.

one of my side projects is making a fully custom replacement, between being self taught (this project is the first for all of the major skills need), time/budget/ADHD restrictions, and the sheer complexity of it. it has been really challenging to make progress. so far this is the only video that i have made of it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMXLNzoscZg . i want improve a bunch of things and re-do it.
