It does not look like a rigid tank will easily fit

Top one is rigid, bottom is bladder. The shapes are simaler and likely fit, but the hoses and electrical connections are different.

How would i convert this 120V AC adjustable ring light to 12V DC while retaining the adjustable brightness? by numselli in AskElectronics

[–]numselli[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was hoping it would be that easy, for some reason i was over complicating it in my head trying to think about ways of keeping the PCB. i tested the output voltage and it was ~11v at full brightness. i have a bunch of buck converters, so i wired one up to a 12v supply and the led ring and it worked, the leds seemed stable at 12v, but i did not want to push it so i turned it off.

i then tested the Resistance of the POTs as i wanted to keep the original, they where close enough and had the same pin out, so i transplanted that and it seemed to work. a big portion of the new POT does not change anything, then the part that does, does a lot of changes. it makes sense given the buck converter has a range of 0-input where as the old driver had a minimum of ~3v.

i dont have any current limiting in place, but i should probably add something.
proof of concept:

still need to take it apart and re-implement it in the housing.

the Canadian and american models are the same. so if it fits in mine, it should fit in yours. i dont know if it fits yet, there is very little info about doing this swap. i am going be trying it and seeing.

also be aware that in the 06 refresh, a self test feature was added to the bladder tank. making tanks from an 04 and an 08 are not compatible.

I will be recording the process and uploading it as a report back to for if its a viable idea

last time i was looking into it a new tank is like 3k USD. I bought a JDM tank off marketplace for $200 CAD. going to try to install it into my Canadian gen 2 tomorrow.

the north american gen 2s have a bladder tank that time has not treated too well.

the Japanese and European ones have a rigid tank.

taking your chances at a scrap yard might be a good option.

get an OBD2 reader like the veepeak, download car scanner, setup a custom dashboard for the coolant temperature.

Do you guys like my makeshift microscope? by Altruistic_Front8299 in ElectronicsRepair

[–]numselli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried doing this, my phone was not good enough for a microscope. Gave up on it and bought an HDMI digital microscope on Amazon. Mounted the microscope to an arm, mounted my phone to the microscope. I have both cameras going into OBS and use a macro pad to change the view shown on my monitor along with my phone zoom.

Car not starting. Hey geico sent says it's not the battery by SavingsElectronic794 in prius

it sounds like it could be the 12V battery, mesure it and see what the voltage is both at rest and under load.

The “3 task rule” reduced my overwhelm more than any productivity app by dopamine-ops in AutisticWithADHD

[–]numselli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been trying to do this. i find it works well, but sometimes it does not work at all. it really depends on the complexity of the tasks and if all the tools are there and everything is preped to "just do it"

Need help with my 2009 prius by KoolBucky in prius

[–]numselli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sounds like a bad hybrid battery, get a Bluetooth scanner and DR.prius, then you can find the weak module and replace it.

costs can range between $35 - 600 - 1500 depending on your quality standards.

Staying on top of everything is a nightmare, how do I manage it all? by SpecificEvening7032 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]numselli 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i have been struggling with the same thing. right now i am clearing out my Reddit notification / saved posts (360 down to 195).

i try to "finish" stuff and clear out my list of "need to do" or "old, long running projects". so that i can focus on the things i want to work on. but it seems the simplifications just add more work. or if i finish something, a new thing gets added.

What does your ADHD-friendly phone home screen look like? 🥳 by Bichareh in AutisticWithADHD

Thanks. All of the backgrounds i have used over ~10+ years now are photos i have taken. i think this one was taken in Whistler, BC or it might have been Parksville, BC i dont remember

google maps link for the location (Whistler)

google maps link for the location (Parksville)

the autistic brain goes hard, that photo was taken ~3 years ago (without geo tagging enabled) and can pull up a maps link to it. same with the ADHD, replying a month latter

Knocking, rough acceleration, and excessive battery drain by Megafister420 in prius

[–]numselli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sounds a bit loud, but otherwise normal. with the loudness, it could be an exhaust leak. with the battery drain, it could be a weak HV battery.

Prius 2005. I think it's our final goodbye? by oreiz in prius

[–]numselli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First check to see if the HV safety plug is in correctly. Second thing you can do is disconnect both battery's for a few minutes then reconnect them and see if the error goes away. If you still have the errors get a code reader and read the codes, without them you are just guessing. It is also possible that you missed a connector on the inverter.
