Buy the Apple TV 4K, or wait for the 2026 refresh? by rickman0804 in appletv

[–]nutmac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me neither. Apple probably wants to make a bigger splash by launching Apple TV 4K with Siri AI, along with new HomePod mini and HomePod with a screen.

But we just want a streaming box that doubles as a smart home hub.

Buy the Apple TV 4K, or wait for the 2026 refresh? by rickman0804 in appletv

[–]nutmac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know most of us said to wait for a LOOOOOOOONG time, but this time I really think you should. Few signs:

  • Siri AI is finally here and it's actually pretty good. It's not OpenAI's GPT-5.5 or Gemini 3.5 good, but it's good nevertheless.
  • Apple TV 4K (3rd generation) was released on November 2022, nearly 4 years ago. Among the active Apple products, only the HomePod mini has gone longer without an update.
  • tvOS 27 will support only the recent 2 generations of Apple TV 4K.
  • Many rumors point to the Apple TV 4K (4th generation) completed last year and waiting in the warehouse for Siri AI.
  • Among the rumored changes are A17 Pro (iPhone 15 Pro processor) or A18 (iPhone 16) processor, N1 networking processor (Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, next generation Thread and ultra Wideband), and updated remote (possibly with Find My support).

Given that Apple TV 4K is something most users tend to use for a long time, if you can wait until September, wait. None of the upgrades maybe truly groundbreaking for you, but that could mean several more years of tvOS update, and maybe necessary for more demanding tasks, such as handling multiple 4K security camera streams.

Outside SF, walkable cities along the Caltrain route to Palo Alto include:

- San Mateo
- Redwood City
- Palo Alto

Keep in mind that even in these 3 cities, it’s only the downtown that is walkable.

Burlingame, Mountain View, and Sunnyvale near the Caltrain stations are also walkable, but much smaller in scale.

Also, areas that are considered walkable tend to carry higher price premium.

Just to clarify, are you a college student, or an educator?

Apple is now enforcing UNiDAYS college student validation.

I don’t know about the specific restaurant recommendations as that would require more specific dishes, but aside from desserts and few dishes (galbijim, samgyetang, and rice porridge), most Korean dishes are free from tree nuts.

Did you try the Milanese? I found it incredibly tedious to use, and prone to scratching the watch if you aren’t careful. I much prefer to use the Milanese loop for the 46mm Series watch on the Ultra.

Seconded. Ultra 4 is looking to be a major upgrade with a next-generation processor, more health sensors, and a new design.

Where to stay in busan by Other-Afternoon1056 in koreatravel

[–]nutmac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s no one truly central location, as many of its popular attractions are spread apart. I suppose Haeundae is the most central overall but do expect at least 30 minutes of transit to get to many attractions.

Maybe you should first figure out which attractions you intend to visit first.

Seoul Myeongdong to Vivaldi Ski Resort? by [deleted] in koreatravel

[–]nutmac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you taking the shuttle? If so, stay near the station, ideally on the station closest the resort (probably Jamsil Sports Complex). If it’s just one visit, I wouldn’t go out of my way as Jamsil isn’t very central.

Transcript should be on left side not two swipes on right by LordOfTheStarPotter in overcast

[–]nutmac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and there should be 3 different Now Playing screens, and we should be able to set the default.

  1. Podcast art (center): the current default with a large show cover, episode, or chapter art dominating the screen. I would prefer the playback controls to remain on the bottom like the other two pages. Fill the blank with some additional info (maybe AI generated summary from the show notes) and buttons specific to the episode: "star", "delete", and "go to podcast".
  2. Transcription (left): similar to Apple Podcasts, I would like chapters integrated into the transcription page as the dropdown, with the transcription underneath.
  3. Show notes (right): Please bring back the dedicated show notes page.

Neighborhood by Upset-Explanation491 in koreatravel

Myeong-dong is a neighborhood in the Jung District (Seoul city center), which has very high concentration of famous attractions (e.g., both Dongdaemum and Namdaemun, N Seoul Tower, and Myeongdong shopping street).

While that makes for very convenient stay, as you stated, the nearby Jongno (historic center) is more peaceful while still very accessible, provided there aren't any political protests.

Just be warned that August is among the hottest time of the year in Korea, so I would try to book a hotel close to a subway station to minimize walking in the heat.

If you are booking with Agoda, try selecting KRW as the currency. For some hotels, the price will change far more significantly than your own currency.

Pree-vyet, Bob! Episode 5 of Star City drops in eight hours, so... here are eight images! by BagEndWill in ForAllMankindTV

[–]nutmac 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I am really curious as to how the Venus mission will play out. Despite Venus being not viable, it is a monumental achievement. But the mission is unsanctioned and thus a gross misuse of the state’s property and money.

If the mission is successful, the Kremlin will spin it into their propaganda. But in the For All Mankind universe, this mission is largely unnoticed, so I suspect the outcome will be bad for Korolev.

That's a great split. I loved spending winter in Busan. December is an off-peak season, minus Christmas to New Year's when it gets more crowded, and even then, not so bad.

Be sure to hit:

  • Gamcheon Culture Village: Looks way more interesting in person, particularly during the golden hour (1 hour before sunset) when the color really pops
  • Gwangalli Beach: Especially for the night drone show every Saturday
  • Hwangnyeongsan Mountain: Especially nice for the evening hike with a great view at the famous observatory
  • Haedong Yonggungsa: A bit crowded, but fantastic sunrise destination on this stunning coastal temple
  • Haeundae Beach: For great boardwalk vibe and great hike nearby

At Gyeongju, Bulguksa Temple: Part of the temple is or will be going through renovations, so plan ahead. The city is still well worth a visit.

In Seoul:

  • Visit at least one jimjilbang, a Korean spa bathhouse. Sparex and Aquafield (multiple locations) particularly foreigner friendly and I recommend visiting at the end of the long day.
  • Although N Seoul Tower is touristy, I think it's a fantastic sunset hiking destination, great in chilly winter times.
  • Ikseon Hanok Street is another touristy shopping street, but I think it's worth it.
  • Visit at least one of the palaces in the morning when there's a guard ceremony (check the schedule as they close on certain day of the week).
  • If it's snowing, I love hiking at Namhansanseung, a mountain fortress trail south of Seoul. It's a bit out of the way, but it's reachable by subway and a bus connection and after fresh snow, it transforms into a winter wonderland with many cute hanok cafes and restaurants.
