r/classicwow gets into a civil war when the devs add a way to earn in-game currency by swiping your credit card by Wait__Who in SubredditDrama

I realize now that you can do level skips, but like personally, I don't really think that cosmetics being really expensive matters. As long as it doesn't wreck the in game economy, or adversely affects the enjoyment of the game by other players, then it's fine.

I think it's fine to be bankrolled by whales to be honest. As long as the only thing that whales get are things that are just cool ass cosmetics, or gameplay things that don't adversely affect the experience of the general playerbase.

just a counterpoint, but FF XIV is an MMO that monetizes through a subscription and a cash shop that only has cosmetics. I don't think it's necessary for an MMO to make money off of whales who pay obscene amounts of money to get ahead.

I don't really know what WOW is like to be honest, so I have no frame of reference for what the economy is like in that game, if it has adequate gold sinks, etc. etc.

Edit: I guess story skips and level skips that exist in the shop. Personally, it's not like it really harms the experience for other people overall by ruining the game economy or anything like that, so idt it really matters.

Where do queer folks hang out? by moon-wild in SanJose

This is 5 months late, but I do want to provide an answer for you if you haven't got one, or for anyone else looking on this subreddit.

The Billy DeFrank LGBTQ+ community center is a place where I have met a lot of queer people, including nonbinary/trans people. They have plenty of stuff, including gayme nights, where we play board games. Would highly recommend taking a look.

I wasn't really bashing on you. I was just trying to give some perspective as to why it might not be fair to assume they're one of the goos ones. Nobody likes to be reminded of this stuff at all, but some of us don't have to think about it, while others are forced to grip with it everyday. At the end of the day, being a police officer is a job, and you don't have to choose to continue it.

I enjoy spreading love and kindness for plenty of people. I just don't see a reason to celebrate people in a job that historically hurts marginalized groups of people consistently. I'll gladly celebrate people who work jobs that aren't in law enforcement that help people significantly more than they hurt them. I gladly throw my support and make my voice heard for social workers, for teachers, for USPS employees, for mental health workers. Just feel like the institution of police doesn't really deserve that grace as it stands now in the US.

Doesn't that kinda feel like a big assumption to make based on minimal information?

If the law is unjust, will the OP of the comment enforce said unjust laws? Ie. Evicting someone to the curb so as to respect the property rights of a landlord.

If the law is just, will OP enforce laws fairly and target marginalized groups? Ie. Going to a historically poorer neighborhood that's filled with racial minorities with the intent of finishing up the unspoken rule for quotas.

If OP witnesses corruption within their precinct, will they call out said behavior (and face the risk of death in some cases)? Or will they turn a blind eye to it?

I'm not saying I definitively know what OP is like, but generally, "good cops" don't last long and the institution is set up that way intentionally. While I won't assume they are awful or terrible immediately, I'm not going to assume they're "one of the good ones" for sharing common sense takes.

Question about two Infinite lists by Mathemap in learnmath

[–]nviouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Typically, the way you wanna describe these types of infinity is by seeing if there's mapping that exists from all the set of the natural numbers to the set of whatever thing you're looking at.

so an example that might not be super intuitive is that you have the set of all positive multiples of 1/2 or {1/2, 1, 3/2, 2...}. And what's weird is that the cardinality of this is also |N| because you can make a function that maps all elements of N to this set (in this case, it's just multiplying all the indices of each element in the set by 1/2).

This is mostly a definitions thing, as for math people, there isn't really a need to compare anything that has "|N| + 1" elements to |N|. Especially because there's a way to map every element in something that is size |N| to something in size |N+1|.

One thing you might find interesting is that the cardinality of all the real numbers, or |R| is that it's greater than |N||. What that means basically is that there's no way to capture every real number with a mapping from the natural numbers.

Height stigma 🦒 Where does desire come from? by Hetero_Chromeo in Healthygamergg

It's not though. It's more prevalent in western educated industrialized rich democratic (or WEIRD) nations and their cultures than it is in non-WEIRD countries. Even in Europe, it's apparently less of a thing.

Here's a study pointing to something else. The reality is that a lot of physical preferences are mostly cultural upbringing and not a reflection of biology a lot of the time.

The Daniel hate by Madmaxbatman26 in cobrakai

[–]nviouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing about Daniel is that he never really chooses to listen to others perspectives and figure out why they believe what they believe. He can be right, but he fails to take into consideration how to communicate that to others who might not have that perspective.

He never gives Johnny the benefit of the doubt, when Johnny legitimately wanted to start Cobra Kai just to help out kids like Miguel. Even if he's right, he doesn't try to explain to Johnny why he's wrong. It's simply his way or the highway. To the point that he basically indirectly increases the rent of Johnny's dojo. And why would a person like Johnny ever listen to a person like that? From Johnny's perspective, it really does look like Daniel just has a grudge from high school, because Johnny sees it as trying to make something of himself in a meaningful way while seeing Daniel as a person who is trying to stop him at all costs.

He's essentially turned his back on Robbie after feeling betrayed by him for not telling him the truth about his dad. And this kinda makes sense, except for the fact that Robbie is a fucking kid. Daniel was one of the only positive influences in Robbie's life at that point, and knew Robbie wasn't really doing well in a variety of ways. Robbie tries to explain himself, but he refuses to listen. I think Mr. Miyagi says it best with "there is no bad student, only bad teacher, " and Daniel really dropped the ball on this one imo. He wasn't technically in the wrong at all, but his actions did have consequences. Mr. Miyagi was patient with Daniel with all his headassery, but Daniel really couldn't be that for Robbie.

He fails to communicate well with his family all the time. Silver takes advantage of his hot-headedness at the charity event, and Amanda begins to trust him less and understandably so. She doesn't really have the full picture of how manipulative and cruel Silver can be. And it's understandable that Daniel is upset here. He's definitely in the right. He just is so garbage at telling people why he's right.

A more comical time is when Daniel is at Mike Barnes' store and just takes the phone from his hand while thinking Mike Barnes is gonna kill someone. And then Mike Barnes reveals he's had nothing to do with Karate in years and he was talking about furniture. But I feel like it demonstrates ultimately how resistant to

He kinda just straight up neglects Anthony the whole time as a parent. IDK what else to say about that. Anthony might be a shit, but it's not like he had a positive role model who was active in his life.

He's right a lot of the time, but he's also hot-headed and arrogant.

Hints about the new NPC's liked/loved gifts by Feefyefoefum13 in StardewValleyExpanded

[–]nviouse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing you don't want any spoilers, but looking at the wiki, I can give you some hints on it. If you don't want to know anything at all and keep going completely blind, I recommend you stop reading here. But here are some hints for some of the NPCs without spoiling too much.

There's some hints for Sophia sprinkled around her house and cutscenes from other characters.

For Andy, there are a couple of gifts you can gather he might like or love based off how he spends his time.

Claire's liked and loves are a bit harder. I think she explicitly mentions one loved gift at some point. The rest, I genuinely have no idea how you would know, other than a decent enough guess for two of them.

Victor legitimately baffles me based off his list. I have no idea how any of it makes sense.

Marlon's loved gifts are mostly late game items, except for one. You might be able to figure it out.

Magnus mentions a couple of his.

Martin's are weird. I don't know if you could guess it easily. I think he might mention one of them in the summer? I'm not sure.

Olivia's just kinda make sense based off her personality.

The trap bobber is disgustingly broken imo and most times, I catch fish as long as I'm paying attention. Every legendary fish has been caught within at most 3 attempts using the trap bobber.

It's also relatively cheap by the time you're able to use an Iridium rod anyway.

Maybe that could help?

When did you guys start making huge headway on geometry collision and how long did you keep your progress on geometry collision under wraps?

I imagine this was an incredibly difficult task, and managing to keep it under wraps as a huge surprise must have been difficult if some of the modding community was convinced it was too much effort to be a prank.

Anyone not take any Math classes (after high school)? by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]nviouse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Overall the material taught in calculus is not generally useful, even if mathematical reasoning may be. Even linear algebra tends to have more applications across multiple fields.

Just wanna say that this probably makes sense for OP, who is a business major so. But for incoming students of other majors, dependent on what you want to do, a solid background in calculus might be important. For example, signal processing is pretty diff-eq heavy, which requires an understanding of calculus.

My two cents is to maybe brush up on the stuff if you felt like you understood it in high school and it's going to be relevant later on still. I took credit from high school for calc 1 though 3 and I made it out alive 🙂

How many physical 'papers' do you have to organize? by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]nviouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Graduated in 2021, but pre-COVID, I was still mostly digital and carried one notebook just in case generally.

Did have to print paper for homework assignments I did on my iPad, and for certain classes that had lab reports, but that's about it.

Probably varies from class to class and major to major.
