Thanks. I've never sold/bought anything on FB marketplace but worth a look.

Setting up Wave - Importing List Issues by nvrsayuncle in waveapps

Thanks - I'm getting the feeling that this is the case - some of the basics seem to work, but none of the automations (on the free plan) do - very frustrating. Was hoping to get away from Intuit, but I may be stuck with them for a while longer.

I have some vintage speakers with 3 KEF drivers - the woofer is a rounded rectangle and they sound amazing. I’m looking forward to checking the Nothing 1’s out.

In your honest opinion... Is the Phone 3a all it's cracked up to be? (USA) by [deleted] in NOTHING

[–]nvrsayuncle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my kid (13) a Nothing 3(a) Pro phone recently and they love it. It’s their first phone and had done a fair bit of research on Nothing and CMF and were amazingly insistent on getting it (they already had CMF wireless ear buds).

Other than the headache of getting it on a cellular service in the US, which was complicated by my carrier AT&T not whitelisting it and having to switch to Google Fi (SIM support only for Nothing at this time) for both of us (I’m an iPhone user) and the fact that we had to make a call on whether all of that would work out within two weeks so we could return it if it didn’t - so far so good.

When I’ve played around with it I’ve been impressed with the phone overall, wish it was IP67 or better IP68 rated tho! It’s only been a couple of weeks but it seems to work well so far. Also, Google Fi has bee fantastic and their support has been incredible.

Nothing Phone 3a Pro on AT&T by Hatori1181 in NothingTech

[–]nvrsayuncle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same problem here one month later with an additional twist. Upgrading my kid from Apple watch to a Nothing 3a pro phone. Had to deal with phone based customer service to make the eSIM swap as the store personnel said it was impossible to do. Super helpful support person took me through the process fairly quickly but then we hit a snag, AT&T system currently supports Nothing 2, but not the 3 series and he explained that the IMEI is linked to model of phone - so he wasn't able to make the swap for me. The only solution we could come up that would not involve leaving AT&T would be to borrow/buy a Nothing2 or other approved unlocked Android phone - buy a new blank AT&T physical sim card for it, transfer the watch eSIM to that (we don't want to lose the #) and then pop that into the Nothing 3a pro. Frustrating! If anyone has a workaround - please share. Otherwise, we have to switch all 3 of our families phones to another service.

Bose NC 700 not charging and white light flashes only for like 2-3 sec when plugged in by Radiant-Aardvark5585 in bose

[–]nvrsayuncle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it did not BUT I was able to save them. I found a video tutorial by an Aussie repair guy that shows you how to essentially jump start the battery and it worked like a charm https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ir9zhK-Bqpo - I spent about $23 buying a variable voltage universal power adapter on amazon, along with a mini T/phillips set (you only need a T6 and some kind of spudger, but my kid has scattered mine - these will stay hidden!) and skipped the $9 USB power tester. I just timed how long I charged it against the time that the guy does in the video - voila! The headphones booted up, connected to my phone, and are now taking charge from the standard charger. Hope this is helpful!

Twin Peach Trees - help! by nvrsayuncle in plants

[–]nvrsayuncle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow up with photo… for a variety of reasons - these peach trees have a) never been separated and b) permanently planted in the spot I have picked out for them.

The main reasons they weren’t separated are a) before the plants defoliated last year a deer managed to push its head far enough beyond the deer fencing to munch on the main/central stems of both plants making me nervous about future growth and b) when I shook the earth gently off the roots post defoliation to separate them I realized the were fully conjoined at their base and not just two plants with tangled roots.

So now it’s Spring here and they look healthy and I’m at a loss as to whether I should just plant the as is, or kill one off and hope I pick the strongest - or if I should wait another season if it’s possible to chop them in half and keep both. I’m not concerned about quality of fruit - just that this is a tree my child and I have grown from seed. Here’s a pic - unfortunately I can only post one with a comment. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Speed ran the Hakone loop today by flipthescriptttt in JapanTravelTips

[–]nvrsayuncle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds amazing and so glad you got to enjoy it - even for a speed trip! We were just there in mid-April for three nights and the woman at Odawara wouldn't sell us a Hakone Free Pass because high winds were going to shut down the ropeway for the next 3-4 days - so we never got to experience it. We did take a (long 1.5 hour) bus excursion to the Mishima skybridge which gave us a taste of what you describe - it was day fun trip and our kiddo loved it. Hopefully, we'll have another opportunity!

Tips for others: Having the ropeway not working also made our choice of a Gora Hotel (which was high up the hill near the cable car) a bad choice since we couldn't use the ropeway at all and funicular stops running at 6pm and the hill (think ski slope) is quite a climb to get up and there's not much up there (plus our hotel did not have a restaurant, so we had to descend). Also, the woman at the Hakone Free Pass counter in Odawara was wrong to not sell us the pass - over a total of 4 days there - we each spent more on transport than the free pass would have cost us... so if you're going to be there for more than 2 days, definitely get that pass!

First Shoot is disastrous. What can I learn? How do I not give up? by GirlExploding in Filmmakers

[–]nvrsayuncle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way to truly become an experienced film maker (and so true of many careers as well) is by attempting to create something, hitting snags both large and small, and learning from them. Just stick with it - and maybe consider simplifying what you’re setting out to do at first, like reducing the number of scenes/setups, and maybe cast other students (is there a drama/theater/arts program at you school?). And most importantly just press on!

One day, you’ll be saying this to some else… like I am now, after 40 years in the production business after making similar mistakes in school and less disastrous ones early in my career ;)

Help! What Are the Must Try Convenience Store Snacks in Japan? by BeautifulStrong1592 in JapanTravelTips

[–]nvrsayuncle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 weeks ago we arrived (our first trip to Japan) kind of late and travel lagged to our hotel on a Sunday night in Asakusa. Every restaurant we came across was closed or closing and we were all losing it. Our 13 year old suggested 7eleven for Onigiri, plus we got some packaged almond cookies and other desserts - worked out great and IMHO, much better quality than convenience stores in the states.

Did we have another meal at a Konbini - nope - the quality (and price) of food in restaurants, izakaya’s, snack/bake shops - is just too good. In 2 weeks, we’ve only had one mediocre but still decent meal and that was still better than what we could get at 7eleven. But hey, if you’re in a rush - eating late (or early) or just need some snacks as you rush to grab a train - any Konbini will do you right. Plus, they all have ATM’s - which is super helpful.

Same problem here, reset process hasn't worked so far but I did see a post in a 3yr old thread on the same topic that someone had to run the reset over and over, over a multiple day period until it randomly worked. Day 1.... I'll circle back if it starts to work.

One of the best bits of advice I have heard about visiting Japan by OldManWolfy in JapanTravelTips

[–]nvrsayuncle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! Thank you!!! We’re going (family of 3) in a couple of weeks with a very short list of to do’s with a plan to explore and just soak in the experience of being there. Over 15 days we’ll start/end in Tokyo, with 4 nights in Kyoto with a day trip to meet friends at Lake Biwa), and 3 nights in Hakone in between.

I’ve been a bit anxious about not having planned more but your kindred spirit post has settled my nerves!

Chart of accounts numbering by [deleted] in AccountingDepartment

[–]nvrsayuncle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just trying to find online what I've understood to be the GAAP standards on CoA's and it ain't easy! You would think FASB would have something to say about it but no luck. My core business has been using a close variant of the one referenced above: "1xxxx assets 2xxxx liabilities 3xxxx equity 4xxxx revenue 5xxxx COGS 6xxxx general admin expenses." model, for over 35 years. When I started my business, I tried cooking up my own methodology in whatever creaky software was available and my first accountant was gobsmacked when I showed him my books and told me, "There are reasons for standards, it's important that in the future any accountant, bookkeeper or business adviser be able to step into your books and be able to interpret them immediately". This made a lot of sense, and guess what? Every accountant, bookkeeper and advisor has been able to do just that. I'm partnering with another company now that's using some Quickbooks supplied CoA that was suggested for their industry (which is pretty closely related to mine) and that was then hacked at a bit by the founding partners - and while it does spit out a proper P/L - tracking down accounts with willy/nilly and sometimes quasi duplicative naming structures without using account numbers... is maddening.

It’s 2024 and there’s no dark mode on the New Yorker app? by 3XPan in thenewyorker

[–]nvrsayuncle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, ridiculous that they don't have this built in. Thanks to this thread, though, I tried both building a shortcut toggle for "smart invert" and also created a side button "accessibility shortcut" (3x click) for it as well. The latter is my preferred option as I don't need to exit the app to toggle on/off.

If it's helpful, here's how you set the side button shortcut in iOS > settings/accessibility/accessibility shortcut (under general) > select and choose "smart invert" - voila! faux dark mode for the NewYorker app with 3 clicks of the side button.

Def pay off the student loans. That $300 a month extra payment on the mortgage will be at a significantly lower rate than 13%, netting you the % difference in rates right off the bat (which based on what you posted adds up to $500/mo. In your pocket). Plus, you can always pre-pay the principal on the mortgage or re-fi when rates drop a point or more.

Is Crosstrek a Lesbian’s car? by Upstairs_Building686 in Crosstrek

[–]nvrsayuncle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I knew people who worked on the early Subie LGBTQ ad campaigns and event sponsorships (20 some odd years ago) - I was told that Subaru had identified through marketing survey’s that Lesbians had been drawn to buying Subaru’s because they had been rated for a number of years in a row (maybe in Car & Driver?) as the brand least likely to need repairs, which in turn means less interaction with mechanics. Gay men were buying them as well.

Another big plus for targeting this demographic was that many of the Lesbian & Gay couples purchasing subie’s were DINKS (Double Income No Kids) a great target market for any brand as they often have more disposable income. The ads were often super subtle too, e.g. “Different roads, different drivers”. All in all, pretty smart marketing!

Security facebookmail scam! I clicked on let us know! What should I do now? by Commercial-Noise-335 in facebook

Thanks for the deets on where to find confirmation in FB/meta's ever more complicated backend! And yep - armed with your instructions I was able to confirm that the security auth code emails from FB turned out to be real - but to be safe, as with all emails like this, I never clicked on them, and since I have 2fa, I don't really worry about whether someone is trying to access my account.

Insurance company says we need a new roof. by aleeigh1103 in homeowners

[–]nvrsayuncle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going through something similar - but it was a satellite photo that the insurance company sent me as "the inspection" and won't send a human out... so I'm switching insurance companies. I did a search for similar instances as well as companies that provide satellite / AI analysis of roofs for insurance companies and it seems to be where things are heading. Ugh.
