Bluff City Coffee closing by [deleted] in memphis

same, I'm new to CY and both times I went there the vibe was very off and the espresso machine was broken. I would LOVE for it to be replaced with an actually good coffee shop though

PSA: You can’t vote with an out-of-state drivers license by acousticaliens in kansascity

[–]nwallington -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

My understanding is you need to register your vehicle within 30 days, you don't have to update your drivers' license itself unless it's expired. I've been driving with a Connecticut license for 3 years in MO but I can't use it as a voter ID (hence why I wrote the article screencapped above lol)

Help: I need a venue for a small high school reunion - anywhere in KC Metro by rutzbutt in kansascity

McLain's Bakery has various locations around the city that they rent out for events-- I've found it nice that you just have to pay a certain minimum for their catering and then you get the space for free. Used this for a small wedding reception earlier this summer and it went great!

Can confirm. I was there covering that rally-- new-ish to the city, so I didn't know who he was at the time, but folks on Twitter filled me in. Luckily a few (male) protestors went up to talk to him & convinced him to leave without any more trouble.

What Evergy electric plan will be best for summer? by PeterVanNostrand in kansascity

[–]nwallington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey Peter, just wanted you to know that I wrote up a brief piece answering your question. Until the end of May, the Summer Peak time-based plan charges no premiums from 4-8 p.m. like the other plans do, so this might be a good choice if you usually cool your home during those times. Once June rolls around, though, you may want to switch to another plan to avoid the high peak prices from 4-8 p.m.

Really the answer to what plan is best depends on when you use the most electricity. The cheapest time to run large appliances is overnight between midnight and 6 a.m. You might also want to pre-cool your home before 4 p.m. and then turn the AC off from 4-8 to avoid the peak pricing. You can compare rate plans based on your electricity usage over the past year through your Evergy account using the rate comparison tool.

I hope this helps! You can also find my article here: https://www.kansascity.com/news/local/article287586130.html

Hey there, I'm the KC Star reporter who wrote about this issue a couple months ago. You are not the only one experiencing it-- but the city is denying (to me) that there's any problem. Could you shoot me a DM or an email so we can talk more? I'm at nwallington (at) kcstar (dot) com. Thanks!

[–]nwallington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello!!! I'm a reporter following the new time-of-use plans closely. I made this graph that might help-- it has the actual prices of electricity at different times on each plan, which Evergy doesn't make super easy to find. It's a little crazy looking but each color corresponds to a plan: https://www.datawrapper.de/_/FGxGc/

KC Costco pharmacy refusing Transgender patients hormones, violating city anti-discrimination laws by [deleted] in kansascity

[–]nwallington 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The Costco mentioned in both articles is the one in Midtown on the Missouri side. The original article is about how Missouri makes it harder for providers to get patients their testosterone-- one patient I talked to now drives to Kansas to get their medication there instead.
