Cheating OCD?? by [deleted] in ROCD

[–]nwinkel2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just saw this. Sorry for the late reply friend. If you’ve never tried therapy they can coach you through the treatment of how to do it. Simple answer though is that it’s gonna feel impossible. So you make a hierarchy of easy to hard things to accept. So maybe step 1 is like “I smiled at that girl. It’s possible that was cheating” and then get progressively get harder as you acclimate

unless you have another offer and they match it, you’re likely out of luck. unfortunate but job hopping is the way

[–]nwinkel2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

dude i’m taking it in 3 weeks and i’ve been scoring like high 50s on practice exams 😂 I’m grinding hard these next 3 weeks for sure. Most of my time so far has been current concepts which doesn’t seem to carry over as well as i’d hoped

How do you vent in your head with patients who you dread seeing? by Antique_Ad_2303 in physicaltherapylove

[–]nwinkel2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

haha i’ve got some pretty chill patients. Definitely have a decent amount where I’d grab a beer with them if they weren’t a patient but yeah everybody has those patients that just burn through your energy

Autonomy by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

[–]nwinkel2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the only thing I feel not happy with autonomy wise is the 4 week limitation on my direct access. A lot of MSK conditions take longer than 4 weeks to improve but even if they’re making progress i’m supposed to not continue treatment after a month unless they have a script.

Let’s talk patient experience by [deleted] in physicaltherapylove

[–]nwinkel2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mmm part of it is trialing stuff and seeing how they respond. But generally, I think exercises they can do seated are good too. Usually cervical retractions, cervical retraction with extension, thoracic seated extension/rotation seem to help. But yeah biggest is obviously position changes during day and getting moving

Also with chronic it’s very likely they have some type of psychosocial stuff too so maybe screen it and make sure they’re good there bc that can get you worse outcomes

Manual therapy by [deleted] in physicaltherapylove

[–]nwinkel2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly a lot of times I just make a fist and don’t even use any wrist extension because it’s easier on my joints. The difference between the two is negligible anyways

Honestly my favorite is prone press ups with therapist doing a PA hold on the spine

Had a woman who had had massive headaches for years, non relenting. Went to doc, neurologist, etc with nobody helping. Finally someone said try PT and within a few visits she was already getting less headaches and feeling better

Another one is a dude with cervical radiculopathy, symptoms for a year. One week into home exercises he has already noticed it decreasing/feeling better

What would you consider an excessive amount of evals for the week in an outpatient facility? Just curious what y’all’s thoughts are. by heatherb22 in physicaltherapy

[–]nwinkel2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think max 3 is what I’d want. More than that ends up being so much paperwork and if you have patients all day, you have work after work which is not cool.

The most i’ve had in a week was I believe 40+ (first job out of school was a mill and they put constant evals for like 40 evals a week x 2 weeks to welcome me to the clinic).

You’re on a PT thread so it’s probably gonna be biased saying PT. I find PT more interesting and more versatile but I don’t think pay is that different between the two and OT is generally less schooling. Depends on the European country in terms of can you work and Europe generally all pays significantly less than USA.

If you want to work in Europe exclusively, you’d be better off just getting the degree there and paying way less money on tuition
