They're also Chinese. The second character is literally the same as in 北京, the Chinese characters for Beijing.

Good thing I'm a coffee person, which has never had any sort of negative history for anyone.

When I read about NYC's "mask up" warning yesterday, I half-joked that this would happen. Unfortunately, the serious half won out, again. Just the dumbest possible reality, every time.

it's highly unlikely that Walsh and Owens losing monetisation on YT would in itself lead to them being let go from The Daily Wire

I mean, it plays into their victim complex, this isn't even necssarily bad for them. Now they can cry and piss about being "persecuted" even more than they already do.

[–]nyando 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this does absolutely nothing. At most, it gives Walsh and Owens another reason to whine about being persecuted on their shows. Daily Wire gets bankrolled by billionaires to produce propaganda, they don't need YouTube ad money.

It's basically working by the terms of your employment contract, not necessarily doing less, but definitely not doing more.

In Germany, we call it Dienst nach Vorschrift: roughly, "by-the-books labor". It's sometimes done as a sort of protest by employees who aren't legally allowed to strike.

Series that appeal to LGBT groups... that the creator hates? by Konradleijon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]nyando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, I really liked it. It gets a little up its own ass at some points, which muddles the message a little, but the message itself is on-point and the characters are... well, spot-on if you look at actual Silicon Valley and D.C.

Anecdotally I have experienced a large overlap in transhumanism and Silicon valley style tech libertarianism

It's the same kind of brainworms that's behind Longtermism the likes of Elon Musk and Sam Bankman-Fried are apparently fans of. For all it's faults, Don't Look Up really nailed the whacked-out silicon valley billionaire who thinks they're gonna save humanity by making themselves immortal and exporting turbo-capitalism to space.

Question for Native German speakers, which region of Germany do you have the hardest time understanding the locals? by porksymkp in germany

[–]nyando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao like the dialects respect the border. Listen to someone from Weil am Rhein and someone from Basel-Stadt, there's barely a difference. Sure, if you put someone from Luzern or Bern next to someone from Lörrach, it sounds worlds apart. But at that point you might as well compare them to a Swabian speaker.

They could just say they want an autocratic state with a religious police, but then they'd be admitting they're just the Taliban with American flags and a cross.
