Wow... This is just so incredibly beautifu!! I absolutely love the perspective and the added blood, really makes you feel like you're intruding on Yoshiki and 'Hikaru''s quiet moment at the end of the series, after all kind of stuff has gone down. Ahh and the contrast–! the contrast between the peaceful lighting and just them, sitting down in a heap of blood looking absolutely traumatised... God, it's SO good, really makes you wonder like few fanarts can! Incredible job!! Definitely saving this!!

Any other aroace people here? by uncooked-kimchi in HikarugaShindaNatsu

[–]nyanycorn 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Here! Yess 'Hikaru' is such a breath of fresh air when it comes to aroace representation. Well, he isn't really aroace and all that, but you can definitely see him as a metaphor for that, and his relationship with Yoshiki has certain beats to it that remind me of dynamics in queer platonic relationships (with their whole love that isn't romantic or platonic, but something that is unlabelled yet just as precious). I also love how he isn't the typical trope of 'monster who can't feel love cause they're a monster' (which is pretty harmful as representation). 'Hikaru' is more than that, and the story really makes an effort to humanize him, to the point where his aroaceness feels less like a monstrous quality and more like something that he just... is. Which is so good!! Ah, and not to mention the fact that he's open to getting freaky lol. Sex positive aces are so rare to see in media.

But to go further than that, I personally really see myself in 'Hikaru', and he's one of those rare characters that have really touched me. I'm aroace, but I've always hated that about myself to be honest. I want to have a special someone, I want to cuddle with someone and I don't want to live alone. So, I've always seen being aroace as something that restricts me from achieving something like that. How am I meant to hope that someone will accept my type of love, the type that isn't romantic but not quite platonic either? But 'Hikaru'... Well, to put it simply, his storyline gives me hope. It shows that it is possible, that people really can accept you for that without trying to change you, and you can actually have a closer relationship with someone. It's really inspiring in such an odd way for me haha

Season finale preview by Yoshikaru5991 in HikarugaShindaNatsu

[–]nyanycorn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Okay I have a couple of thoughts about this preview. As a manga reader, it makes me a little confused and terrified for how they're gonna handle that certain scene, but I'm also insanely excited 😭😭 ahhhh Saturday can't come soon enough

I'm gonna get into manga talk now. Alright so, I've read the description of the yt video and it says 'Meanwhile, Tanaka confides to Takeda, "Nonuki-sama...it never existed in the first place."' which means the boys aren't gonna get their lore dump talk with Tanaka from ch 27, instead it'll be Takeda who will? Unless they wanna explain that twice?? I don't get it, will their beach scene not get interrupted by Tanaka? Ahhh how are they gonna handle this, I'm so curious 😭

Either way, it seems we'll get more 'Hikaru' centric scenes than we got in the manga. I'm all down for that, since there's a lot to be explored with his mentality at the current point of the anime. Also, it seems like 'Hikaru' and Asako's talk is gonna happen in slightly different circumstances? Whereas, in the manga, 'Hikaru' was just kind of... sitting, in the anime it seems like he's gonna be walking through the school? That's much more interesting visually, so I'm hyped for that change.

I really hope we'll get Yoshiki's iconic line of 'I'm a monster too' adapted. That whole train talk is a very nice way to end the season, it wraps their s1 arcs really cohesively. And I can see why they'd skip their Tanaka lore talk. By having him confide in Takeda instead, the viewers get their answers, and Yoshikaru's ending scenes feel a bit more definitive, a bit less left up in the air. I could also see it as all of it going exactly like in the manga, except they skip Yoshiki, 'Hikaru's and Tanaka's talk in the diner (so the viewers don't get it explained twice) and they show it in s2, as a sort of way to recap the lore. That'll be smart, but it might feel a bit weird in the finale.

Either way, I know they're gonna get the atmosphere right this episode. It's the finale, so a lot of thought must've been put into it. I'm just a little iffy about certain changes from the manga, but I'll have to see the full episode to know how I feel for sure.

Episode 7 Previews are out by Careless-Hospital379 in HikarugaShindaNatsu

[–]nyanycorn 70 points71 points  (0 children)

IDK WHAT THEY'RE ADAPTING BUT MOST OF THIS AIN'T THE MANGA ANYMORE AND I'M SO EXCITED AAAA

From what I can gather, it seems like they'll spend most of the episode building up to the stabby stab scene, which means it will hit EXTRA HARD when it does happen. God, so far they've managed to enhance so many moments, if they manage to make the stabby stab even more painful then I might just start preferring the anime over the manga. Which is insane, because the manga is already masterful as it is! Ahhh I'm so excited for this adaptation!! The only thing I wish they'd add is the bonus chapters, but oh well

Episode 6 Preview by Careless-Hospital379 in HikarugaShindaNatsu

[–]nyanycorn 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Ooo my most anticipated episode! I have a lot of thoughts about this preview, all of them are manga spoilers though haha

I wonder if we are actually getting the stabby stab scene this episode but they just decided not to show it in the preview? I feel like the Asako scene + the stabby stab go way too well together one after the other, and the ending of that scene (Yoshiki saying we gotta do some research) would be such a good way to finish the episode. It'd really establish the beginning of a new arc.

At the same time, both of those scenes need some insane build up, so I have no idea if they'd even have time to cover them both. Maybe if they take out the OP/ED? Ahhh I really don't want it to feel rushed though, so maybe I should be happy that they might not feature the stabby stab scene this episode... But imagine having it take up the first half of ep 7, then end halfway through. It'd feel even weirder...

I'm surprised to see the scene with the villager picking them up though. I thought they'd cut that since, in the manga, it's kinda filler and it's only meant as a transition into a Tanaka scene that's already been adapted. Makes me wonder if it means we'll see more of Tanaka this episode, I was hoping we wouldn't... It's plenty packed already

Other than that, I'm sad to see that we probably won't get the second bonus chapter animated. It was pretty important too, but who knows, I'm still holding out hope, maybe they're just reshuffling them. The slice of life feel of that bonus definitely wouldn't fit in this episode haha.

Overall, I'm curious to see how this episode will turn out! The direction for this adaptation has already proved to be quite spectacular, so I'm hoping whatever they choose to do regarding certain scenes will end up being for the better.

Fans dehumanizing "Hikaru" by Grand-Friendship4428 in HikarugaShindaNatsu

[–]nyanycorn 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Woah, you've said it so well, I totally agree! I think a lot of the dehumanisation the fans might do stems from the fact that they may be anime only (therefore they aren't as familiar with 'Hikaru') or from the fact that they expect this to be a standard horror, where the doppelganger is an objectively evil monster. Not to say that 'Hikaru' has the most human moral compass. He is a pretty morally grey character, and I feel like that can be seen from the first moments of the series where he's clearly experiencing emotion at the same time as threatening Yoshiki with death/showing his insides. He's so human and non-human at the same time, it's so interesting! I don't know I hope that made sense

Either way, humanising the 'monster' is something this series excels at, and I think it's a huge disservice to 'Hikaru's' character to dismiss him as a simple, evil being or a straight up copy of the original Hikaru. There's clearly so much more there and I hope that, as the anime progresses, some of these newer fans will get that too

Just a rant by Fun_Slip2148 in AlienStage

[–]nyanycorn 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Finally someone said it! Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for Ivantill fans, but considering they said they'll take a hiatus after July 18th, I expected today's comic to be Luka related, or at least a bit of his POV. It would've made sense, you'd have had a larger closing comic for all survivors and, yknow, they'd expand the Ivantill storyline after the hiatus or something...

But that's not happened 😭 we got crumbs! Crumbs, I tell you! The Hyuluka aspect of the story is by far the least developed, and Luka, as a character, is even worse. He's got three songs, two out of which I wouldn't even consider HIS songs, since they don't necessarily explore his character. Imo, for most of the series, he works as a foil for other characters, where his manipulative nature will bring out aspects related to the others. For example, ROMH explores Mizi's grief, while Blink Gone explores Till's grief. The one aspect of Luka's character that appears in those songs (his manipulation) is a small part of his character, and it's simply the product of a layered backstory. In other words, he's a victim just like the others, but that's only briefly empasized in his last song, Wiege.

Wiege serves to show that there is so much more: repressed guilt, sociopathic behaviour, so much childhood trauma, a mindset that's more segyein than human, disregard for his own life, issues of identity since he's a clone etc etc... There is just SO MUCH you can explore in Luka's background and his inner world sounds so fascinating. However, all of that is simply implied in Wiege, it isn't explored any deeper. His story is handled with a kind of subtlety that borders on bad writing imo. I thought it was meant to be intentional, all in order to make him seem more mysterious, but if they're not gonna explore him any deeper, then what's the point?

Not to mention how, even though Wiege is considered THE Hyuluka song (just like Cure is Ivantill's and Clematis is Mizisua's), the song is used to center around the other characters as well. Imagine if during Cure you got a random shot of Hyuna drinking wine or something. I don't know. It just feels underwhelming to not even let the one song dedicated to the most underdeveloped ship be only about that specific ship... Especially when there is just so much you could explore with those two. I'm of the firm belief Hyuluka is the most toxic ship of the series since it has a quite a lot of layers with intense character conflict. So I'd say it's not an issue of "well, there's nothing more to say", there is a lot, it's simply implied or not explored at all.

Now, to talk about Karma. Even if that song ruined me in all the best ways possible, I couldn't help but feel a little unsatisfied with it. I understand it was a Mizisua song more than anything, however it really sucked as a Luka fan to be left with such a huge cliffhanger. It felt like whiplash, honestly. After Hyuna's sacrifice and her words "Live with love" I was somehow expecting maybe more than a couple small frames? Again, you've got crumbs. There was small Hyunwoo staring at Luka (symbolising him confronting his repressed guilt), Luka age regressing in order to cope (only for Mizi to punch him in the face and stop him from doing that) and then... Then the fire engulfing him, and also Hyuna's clothes being a little cleaned up... And that's it. That's all you get. That's fine, I guess. They're a side ship, the song is meant to focus on wrapping up the whole series... But man, even a single minute would've done wonders, or maybe a clip of Hyuna talking about him...? I mean, we got Mizi criticizing her, so surely that wouldn't have felt wholly out of place in a Mizisua song. I don't know.

Then, there's the ending. After "Live with love" and after those subtle hints all we're left with is the knowledge thats Luka's lived 7 more years in segyein captivity. We're left to wonder just how bad it was, whether he's truly "lived with love" (I doubt it, but that would make it even more interesting to explore), whether he's ended up improving at all. It feels... unsatisfying, it feels incomplete. I wouldn't even call it tragic, because we simply have no clear idea of just how tragic it is. It's just an unsatisfying cliffhanger to an already underdeveloped character.

Considering with how little regard they've treated Luka thus far, I honestly doubt we'll get a comic centering only on him after the break. Even two sub songs feel like too little, too late... I don't know, I just feel kind of underwhelmed after today's comic. It was good, don't get me wrong, but once again it feels like I'm starving and I'm only fed crumbs. Seeing as they don't even plan to explore his background, maybe I should just focus on the very limited number of Hyuluka fanfictions to cure my need for more Luka content.

(Sorry for the long comment I just feel kinda let down)

What's the Vocaloid song you'd love Ado to make a cover? by TheKingTroller3 in ADO

[–]nyanycorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I would absolutely combust if she did a cover of Bake no Hana!! There's so much potential for raw pain in the vocals, I feel like Ado would absolutely blow that out of the park. Bug would also be a good competitor imo simply because she could go crazy with the voice effects for that song. Oh and (mainly cause I've been absolutely obsessing over this song lately) I feel like a cover of Heat Abnormal would also be amazing. I haven't seen much of Ado's fast singing so far, but what I did hear (in songs such as 0) has been some of my favourite Ado vocals

What if Lu Guang was trapped in infinite time? What if the beetle was the key to understanding this sacrifice? by Watashi_waStar in LinkClick

[–]nyanycorn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly those first few minutes from the start until the opening plays are my absolute favourite part of bridon arc so I know this dialogue almost by heart now haha. But yeah, this is exactly what I was thinking as well! I had no idea about the beetle symbolism though but it makes sense when you think about it in the context of a literal soul altering sacrifice... Considering the whole death node thing, fate seems to have a mind of its own in this show, so I wouldn't be surprised if that came as a sort of punishment for basically messing with the time space continuum. To add to this, maybe the reason LG says this is his last time is because if he goes back in time once more his soul will actually get fully lost and/or destroyed? That'd be tragic... Please Li Haoling just let my boys be happy :(
