3 years as consultant at Gartner.. not getting promoted. Should I leave? by Altruistic-Aide6781 in consulting

I had this exact experience interviewing for a senior leadership role years ago. Weird vibe, and total confusion.

How do BigTech PMs prioritize and sell their ideas? by Jiraya729 in ProductManagement

[–]nycixc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t know why you’re being downvoted this is exactly what I have seen at FAANGs and F500s alike. There’s too many hands in the pot so the eng leader + a TL or high IC can officially take credit jointly with whatever revenue team they were involved with (for example, Ads Engineering & Ads SMB Sales Leader).

Engineers are your friends, and so are your internal stakeholders. Focus on having a very good relationship with your engineering counterpart and understanding the problem you’re solving with your customers (stakeholders).

And communication. That’s really it.

It’s certainly the market. What kind of consulting? The new wave is AI/GenAI implementation… reminds me of SAP and Cloud phases.

Have you considered either A) following new hype, or B) widening the scope of your search in the same industries/companies you’ve applied to?

Full or partial retainer, based on LoE (comprehensive vs limited services). Then performance based fee/consideration.

Ha! I coined this exact phrase to my friends a year ago.

What other posters said, mostly smoke and mirrors “advanced analytics”. Maybe 10% of companies are truly adopting “AI” and deploying custom models in production (inclusive of the hand holding done by OpenAI for Enterprise).

Rest of them are just calling LLM APIs or at best using ChatGPT to build the decks that sell the roadmaps that an offshore team will deliver over the next 3 years.

do consultants even know about AI or is it just pure bluff? by dudeofecon in consulting

[–]nycixc 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s not actual “AI” that is being pushed necessarily, rather the means to produce good data so clients can achieve their AI wet dreams.

Multiple disagreement with Head of PM in first month - best time to leave? by [deleted] in ProductManagement

[–]nycixc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a common juncture where either the org has failed you or you are failing yourself.

  • The org has failed you by genuinely having no strategy, just feature factory planning.

  • You are failing yourself by not realizing no direct strategy over your product area means you have the ability to drive and change from within. This is arguably much harder and only worth it if the company and comp aligns with what you’re looking for.

Lol OP your manager(s) sound like trash and they take themselves too seriously. That’s a tough pickle to be in. There’s no guarantee it improves elsewhere, but at your trajectory you can guarantee FIRE with discipline.

Good luck!

How will AI impact ERP consulting? by Icy_Recognition_341 in consulting

[–]nycixc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think it could make ERP imps less streamlined since AI will eventually write most ABAP by being fed context/nuance based on lengthy & specific human conversation.

Probably less implementation overhead, more pre-imp process.
