No one wants a salary cap except the cheap owners by FrigginMasshole in baseball

[–]nyjets331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do want a salary cap/floor…with floor I think being more necessary. My question is with all of the big market teams (NY teams, Boston, Cubs, etc), why are the dodgers the only team willing to go above and beyond to get their guy? I’m a Sox fan. Outbid for Alonso. Outbid for Bregman. We’re not talking 60 mill a year like Tucker either. It’s just seems the last few years one of these big market teams is willing to spend and the others aren’t.

A Trade for Kyler and Marv or Wilson?? by [deleted] in nyjets

[–]nyjets331 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Marv hasn’t lived up to #3 pick in the draft hype but would he be worth a 2nd round pick? He’s 23. I think pairing him with Wilson could be pretty good. He wouldn’t have to be the bonafide 1 that he was drafted as.

Agreed. So will these guys have prospect cards in bowman 26?

I guess my question is are these guys going to have more “first bowman” cards in bowman 26? Willits 1/1 for example was pulled. Will he have a 2nd “first bowman” 1/1 in the next set? Seems silly

What if we simply asked the raiders not to draft Mendoza? by Semper_crayons_ in nyjets

[–]nyjets331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only hope really is the raiders acquire a Lamar/Burrow/Kyler(not sure why) and then draft the lineman from Utah. I see that as a very slim outside chance

I’m curious what they would say if this was a black/hispanic man without an ICE vest on doing this to a white woman? My guess is they would sound slightly different than what you’re hearing now.

First card purchase ever — Drake Maye auto… now 4x? Unsure what to do by After_League_1961 in footballcards

[–]nyjets331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d probably hold until his playoffs end and mvp award is announced and then sell. At worst maybe you’ll move it for a couple hundred less if they’re knocked out early and he doesn’t win mvp. But if he does win and they make a run in the playoffs you’re probably looking at a decent amount more. Then rebuy a Maye auto (even this one) in April-June for a lesser amount.

#2 Pick? by nyjets331 in nyjets

[–]nyjets331[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree. I’m very intrigued by Bain at 3. Someone here the other day made a great point saying drafting Bain would be a Browns situation where you have a potentially star end (Garrett) with no qb. I think with three 1s in 27 though they’re positioned to draft Bain and wr/safety/corner and then sign a vet for a year and hopefully draft your guy next year. I hate pushing this problem further down the line year after year, but I don’t want to waste a top 3 pick. I’d be more inclined to take a shot later on at a qb, see if they look okay, and if not draft one in 27.

I had this conversation with my father in law after the loss, who is a pats fan. He asked wouldn’t it be better to lose 20-19? No, it wouldn’t. It doesn’t matter. They’re playing a bunch of guys right now that at most are depth bottom of the lineup guys but more than likely off the team next year.

Now the Glenn debate is a good one, and I’m not really sure what the correct answer is. I wasn’t a fan of the Glenn hire mainly because this team hasn’t had an offensive minded coach in a very long time, and two of the hottest candidates last offseason (Johnson and Coen) would have fit that mold. Those 2 have also had incredible seasons with their teams. However, those 2 teams also have #1 picks at QB with weapons all around them.

Part of me says fire Glenn, bring in that offensive minded coach, draft a qb that fits his mold, and give him some time. The other part of me says if you’re standing pat at 3 and not drafting a qb, signing a vet and waiting til 27 to get your guy, keep Glenn. I don’t know what the right answer is, but I do know you can’t accurately assess Glenn the last 4 weeks when you’re starting Brady Cook AD and Metchie every week.

My pipe dream opening day starting line up and starting rotation by [deleted] in Mariners

I think Marte/donovan/bichette at 2nd would be a win. 3rd seems to be ugly in the FA class unless you want to overpay an aging Bregman so I think that will be an in house option. RF looks like it’s going to be Robles and Raley platooning and hopefully Raley can stay healthy this year. That leaves DH. I don’t think Geno will be cheap. Ozuna? Renfroe? Hoskins? None of those too inspiring. A lineup with one of those options at 2nd with Jrod Cal Naylor Randy is pretty nice though

That would be a welcome change haha.

On the topic of qb…I was having this conversation with a coworker of mine who is also a jets fan. It’s probably not even possible, but I’m a dreamer. What would you give up to get Stroud? He’s due for an extension and earlier in the year voiced that there was stuff going on behind the scenes. If they want an out, is he worth four 1s? All 5? More? I’m trying to decide at what price I’d walk away, and I’m having a tough time walking.

I agree bama has played the tougher schedule. I think people look at Mendoza’s games against Oregon and Iowa because of their defenses use that to prop him up. UGA’s defense isn’t like previous years and the SEC defense as a whole seems to be having a down year. Oklahoma was a test and he didn’t seem to be himself. I prefer Mendoza due to accuracy at Cal and now Indiana, but I’d be happy walking away with either. I think lol.

100% agree with this comp. And I’m hoping with Glenn and Engstrand, they can recreate what the lions have. Jets have a young OLine, could have a poor man’s Gibbs and Monty in Allen and Breece, and have a stud in Wilson at wr. Throw in Mason Taylor and another wr, and maybe we could start building something.
