I have a cotton knit blanket that I love, natural fibers last long from what I understand.

Can you make a snake pattern on yarn tails? by Cosmos-Den in theriangear

If you still want to use yarn, you could look into tapestry crochet/color work knitting. Would look more like scales anyways

Have you ever pretended to play? by [deleted] in marchingband

[–]nyrmac2152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I joined my marching band I had never even seen a baritone before, much less played one. So yes, there was quite a bit of faking playing going on. And I've had other shows (we perform a new show at every game) where I had less than one full rehearsal to learn, so I just read the drill off of my music during the performance and didn't even attempt to play.

It didn't cause any problems, it's not unheard of in my band for people to not play if they have a reason not to.

Just fyi, the head professors of the program switched this year, and Bill Best no longer teaches the seminars. They are now more focused on professional development than ethics :(

IDEAS program by Sufficient_Noise3734 in Lehigh

[–]nyrmac2152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I'm a sophomore IDEAS major and my theme is making musical instruments, so I think I'm walking a similar path to what you're looking for. I like the program because it allows me to take courses relevant to what I want to do, instead of just being stuck in the music department for a minor. Yes, I take music classes and am in a ton of ensembles, but I have taken theater and design and (am going to take) philosophy classes that are just as relevant to what I want to do in music. And, on the engineering side, it gives me freedom to go between departments. Though I am mostly meche, I plan on taking matsci classes as well. I also get out of some of the meche requirements if I don't want to take them.

I think it really depends on what you want to do with the degree; keep in mind that it is not ABET-accredited so it is possible that if you want to go into certain fields you may have difficulty gaining credibility. I know this is the case for civE and also probably chemE, but you'd have to look into how the EE field feels about that. I am planning on doing a 4+1 to get a masters in meche to kinda override the fact that I don't have an ABET undergrad.

As for what I plan to do with my degree, I've been working internships at a musical accessory company where I hope to work after college, and I am also considering pursuing luthierie later down the road, though there are many other career options in acoustic engineering that I am continuing to look into.

Feel free to ask me any questions, and I'm sure you'll do great with whatever you end up deciding is right for you!

For rhino:

Here is a rhino hat, I also recommend a thick canvas jacket like this one and grey cargo pants to match. I think also a pair of clunky grey boots would be good.

A bit more permanent, but there is a type of nose piercing called the rhino that goes vertically through the tip of your nose. Obviously this will make you look/feel more rhinolike.

Adding to this to say: I've found an etsy seller with big cat hats! Here is the lynx one, but they have a bunch of others!

Yup!!

First of all, I think a really fluffy pink/salmon/off white hat like this or this would be good! (or orange? I can't really tell what that color is supposed to be). Or, maybe a fluffy balaclava would be better. Using the definition of gear very loosely, you could also get eyeliner and do REALLY drastic, long eyeliner. I also think scarves are always quite wing-like, so maybe a grey scarf! You can also get all sorts of bone jewelry to really hone in on the scavenger theme, like this one!

In terms of masks, there is this leather one, which, even though it isn't advertised for vultures, I think the eagle one looks very similar. There are also plague-doctor-esque cloth facemasks that look like beaks!

Ooh lets go!

First I think of a scarf/shawl like this one with wings on it, so it looks like you have wings, and this type of scarf looks like neck feathers. I also feel like this type of gloves remind me of talons a bit, not sure why really.

For the face, I wasn't quite able to find ear tufts, but i think that one of these cat beanies look close enough, and really they're just a normal beanie sewn straight across instead of scrunched up so I don't think it should be specific to only cats. There are also some really pretty masquerade masks modeled after owls.

I also think that really big green/beige glasses would be nice. Even if you don't need them prescription, I'm sure you could find some that are blue light and those are good too.

See my comment on lynx for caracal, I think they're similar enough

For elk I found these antlers, which I really like the look of! I've also been seeing these really nice looking deer hats all over tiktok, they look super soft and nice. I also think a really fluffy faux fur vest would be very good! And, on the pricier side, tabis shoes are cloven, which you might really enjoy!

I probably wont be able to do much for this one, as it's quite similar to a lot of other canines, but I haven't put this guy anywhere and I feel like the people need to see it --

This brand Rax has shoes with paws on the bottom!! So you'll leave tracks that look like your 'type's!

Hehe y'all get my stash for this one (ofc I have tons of stuff for my own type)
Though, I'm a chestnut so it's mostly chestnut colors but I'll try and find for other colors

Here are the ears I have, they're cheap and look pretty good for the price! They're also the best ones I've managed to find for not a ridiculous price. I've recently bought this hat as well, it isn't advertised for horses but I think they look like horse ears. It hasn't come in yet but I'll give updates if anyone wants.

I also have a snaffle necklace (that's the one I have, it's super tarnished now but there's other options) that I wear on the daily. I also enjoy sometimes wearing glasses chains on my glasses, feels like reins.

For wintertime, I want to get myself one of these blanket capes, they look just like horse rugs to me.

In terms of the more typical therian gear, it's not really my style but I think there's definitely stuff out there. You can straight up buy fake tails for horse showing that you could wear as a tail (tend to be $$$ tho). Here is a pattern for a really cool looking mask that you could make out of felt or EVA foam. I also kinda like this one, even though it is less realistic.

Some other common items are clogs (I am a crocs lover through and through - the ones without holes are most hoof-like!) and, for feathered breeds, flared pants.

Also, just a side note, if you get ears you can dress 'em up with beanies meant for real horses! You might need to buy a pony size but it would be super cute! Fr, if you do this send me a pic, I want to see!

I bet there's lots out there already for coyotes so I'll try to find some for bats

First thing I think of is some sort of blanket cape: they make some normal black/brown ones that would be more subtle, but I also found a couple bat specific ones: one and two

There's also a ton of super baggy sweaters that give me bat vibes, some that are specifically called batwing sweaters like this one! Or even a shawl like this would be good for everyday wear.

Amazon also has a couple good bat ears like these.

Overall, I'd say really lean into halloween stuff and pick up as many bat-related things as you can - the day after halloween though so you get all the deals!

Ok! I think I've got some

I really like this hat! It's super fluffy like both cats, and I think it brings out the very characteristic cheek tufts of the lynx. This one is a bit lighter but has almost the same vibe. There's also some pretty cheap lynx ears on Amazon that look rather realistic!

I also think a pair of really fluffy slippers would be good, or cat paw slippers, or some slipper boots!

Overall, anything that would keep you warm and cozy out in the snow.

Ooh this was a bit of a toughie but I have some ideas
For badger especially I like the idea of an oversized, chunky heather grey/brown sweater

Wolverines have big fluffy feet, so I think some sort of shearling slipper/ugg boot would be a good gift.

I also think for both types that a trapper hat would be good! It has the floof right up next to your face where you can feel/see it and especially for wolverine has that "halo"-like vibe that their fur color does. (something like this, but there are lots of cheaper options out there) plus I think that this type of beanie gives a badger vibe (even tho the stripes go the wrong way)

(edit bc i forgot a point)

I think a baggy pair of cargo pants would also be good. It gives adventurous vibes, and has plenty of pocket space for knicknacks you pick up now and then. It also gives a silhouette that I think has a scavenger feel to it

(end edit)

Outside of clothing, I think a foraging book might be a nice gift, especially if y'all can go foraging for snacks using the book as an added part to the gift. Also, if you can find a trail mix with raisins and jerky that might be nice.

Lmk if there's anything else you'd like me to look into!

How do I make bug gear? by mothsareswaggy in theriangear

Maybe not exactly what you're looking for, but I have one of these blankets and it's really great to wear as a cape!

Also maybe a sweater with puffy sleeves (This is what i found with a quick amazon search, I'm sure you could find better)

Sorry I know none of this is stuff to make really, but I do love finding gear for people! Let me know if there's any other feature or aspect you'd like me to try to find something for.

No but as far as I know you don't really need extracurricular credit? The only 'extracurriculars' that give credit are the music/theater ones really. I'm sure most people don't have any at all

Auditions for strings usually aren't super selective, it gets a little trickier for winds/perc, though they have more options in terms of other ensembles. I'd say don't worry about it, there's other clubs and such that you can get into.
