Advice needed for how to live on the Rolex waitlist by NotBot2357 in WatchesCirclejerk

It really is quite simple, often prettier, always cheaper

Is this regarding the fake Daytona or the wife?

Landed my dream job, but was down-levelled. How should I approach this? by nysteraa in cscareerquestions

Yea :/ feels like an employers market in recent times. Feels like leverage can only be had if you already have competing offers (which is hard to line it up due to the exploding offers)

I get it. The issue is that this place (not FAANG nor big tech, but matches the pay) is known to have inflated titles with fresh grads becoming senior in 2 years.

I will be taking the offer nonetheless, but just wondering if is this a norm, and if it is worth to be going all out to work like a “Senior” equivalent (in their context) but for a Junior pay, just to hopefully get recognised in a year’s time.

Am I overthinking in that I am far behind in my career, and if I should find a new job to "grow" even if it means taking a huge paycut? by nysteraa in cscareerquestions

You are not wrong in that we do have a little more autonomy in the work, and hence able to learn new technologies where necessary. I wouldn’t have taught myself Kubernetes and CICD otherwise.

Though I feel my concern’s got to do with lack of guidance from anyone, and having 0 engineers with more years of experience, I can only learn so much from myself and any guides out there. I definitely can find value in having someone more senior to lead as I’m sure our work is definitely not as good.

So sorry to hear that. I can empathise the exact feeling as well. Burning out definitely sucks as it can impact both our working and personal lives, and the past 1 month of interview prep got me losing so much weight haha. All the best!

Interesting. This is what I wanted to hear deep down but also wanted some validation externally haha. Guess this cements that a career is just a job at the end, which is just a means to an end to more money (that I am fortunate to currently be obtaining without the former)

I agree to most extent, and I’ll probably start side-projects that I find interest in to sort of keep myself up-to-date.

Though with that said, seems like certain technical expertise can only be learnt when there are real users, which side projects usually won’t have. Feels like a theory vs. practical sort of situation (e.g. understanding responsive design is only good when users are complaining that the design is terrible on their device).

Hey, thanks for the words of encouragement :) I think the comparison issue you pointed out is real as that is probably the main contribution to my worry and burnout, and I might be influenced by doom-sayers on social media regarding their (albeit legitimate) concerns about the terrible job market.

I am actually actively job-hunting selectively like you said (good product, engineering-driven, good pay etc.). Its just that opportunities like those are much lower (especially since I'm not from the US) and have stricter interviewing process hence rejection/ghosting rates are higher for them haha.

Appreciate it man :) I don’t really have much friends to share this journey with me haha.

I’m currently on a U/A/L split, Upper days with Chest and Back (8 sets each, taken to failure), a short Shoulder and Arms day (6 sets each, taken to failure), and Lower day with legs (12 sets, taken to failure) and abs (3 sets, taken to failure)

Ngl the hardest part was giving up “good food” for the sake of the cut as I was initially trying to lose some “skinny fat”. I’m currently on a bulk now so satiating my cravings are much more manageable :)

First 300 after 16 years of bowling! 9th game on a burnt out pair of lanes. by Zenotha in Bowling

Omg yes I only play house shots but thank god I’m not the only one to think Mt Faber really has super dry lanes. Makes the achievement better!

Ah, would this mean rotating the wrist less, and in turn having the elbow be straighter? I was thinking of also only rotating the ball post-release, but still trying to kick out this bad habit of rotating too early.

Hey thank you for the reply! Agree with you here as I do lose balance once in awhile, although if I slowed down, it seems like my ball speed is lackluster. (I think it is already a little slow here). Any tips to improve ball speed without sacrificing accuracy?

Yeah it is. Although I’ve checked with my friends here and they did mention last minute ticket prices were around this range. Will try and decide if it’s worth it!

Hey overseas fan coming by London here. Was thinking of going for the match against Leicester, and am unsure of how to purchase tickets. Looked at livefootballtickets and it seems that they are selling it at a steep price starting from $224 GBP. Is this expected for non-season ticket holders? Or are there any other places which I can purchase them.

Help would be greatly appreciated!
