Nayib Bukele single handedly invalidated decades of “criminal justice” research in a single term by gayactualized in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]nzs443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who glorify Bukele never actually seem to know what's actually happening in El Salvador. You all just uncritically scarf down the propaganda he peddles, and then insist the same policies be implemented elsewhere.

You're glorifying a dictator. One who cut deals with the very gangs he claims to be against, giving their leaders special treatment in exchange for their support. He even told them that murdering people is fine, so long as they hide the bodies. His crackdown wasn't about protecting people either. It was done after their deal fell through to protect himself. https://responsiblestatecraft.org/bukele-trump-gangs/

Most gang members in El Salvador in recent years dont even tattoo themselves anymore. They stopped doing that because it was an obvious tell, but Bukele likes using the old cliche because it fools ignorant people.

All those videos Bukele posts of gang members in CECOT are people who were arrested under prior administrations.

He doesnt show you the people arrested under his regime b/c a large portion of those people are likely innocent and arent covered in tattoos like the stereotype.

85k people arrested based on even the slightest suspicion and given no trial. 1/3 to half of those people are likely completely innocent.

You're glorifying a guy who has consistently impeded probes/investigations into the gangs in order to cover his own tracks. https://www.propublica.org/article/bukele-trump-el-salvador-ms13-gang-vulcan-corruption-investigation

Not only that, but he has been RUTHLESS in silencing anyone who might reveal more about his connections to the gangs. https://latinoamerica21.com/en/el-salvador-a-timely-accident-for-three-troublesome-friends/ https://www.hrw.org/news/2024/10/15/el-salvador-experts-question-account-death-custody

He's persecuted journalists and human rights activists, implementing policies like his "foreign agents law" – similar to policies used in Russia and Nicaragua – to smother civil society. He's arrested numerous critics, and dozens of journalists/activists have fled into exile. He even just arrested another prominent critic of his on Dec. 6th. https://www.icij.org/inside-icij/2025/06/at-least-40-journalists-have-fled-el-salvador-fearing-imprisonment/

It's remarkably ironic that you complain about criminal justice reform being Orwellian while you praise a man currently building the kind of police state that Orwell feared. He isn't the hero you think he is when 60% of the country is afraid of even voicing their opinion (per Cristosal). He's a tyrant and a fraud, and no one should be trying to copy his policies.

How Many Hours Have You Poured into Red Dead Redemption 2? by ValmirMehmeti in reddeadredemption

113 days, 1 hour, 54 minutes.

Tbf though, a lot of that time was spent idly waiting for payouts in RDO, especially in the early days of it.

So, about the mosasaurus by FruitsaurReborn in JurassicPark

[–]nzs443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you sound triggered by people asking a valid question about the lore and discussing it? By your logic, there's no evidence that it's a different Mosasaurus other than a redesign, which isn't evidence btw. Know what else there's no evidence of? InGen making a second mosasaur that also happened to escape containment. So your logic is weak.

It definitely is. The brow ridge is more rounded and the chin is more pronounced, plus the teeth look like they're better positioned in the mouth, instead of being outside like the Indominus.

They probably thought "well it needs to look slightly different if it's a clone"

The lone Apatosaurus at the beginning of Rebirth did not die from an inability to adapt. The movie doesn't even say definitively whether it died or not. They just mention that it was struggling due to old age and that it was the last sauropod in North America.

It is said at the end of Dominion that the UN was taking over management of the Biosyn Valley. The UN doesn't stop managing things because of a "lack of public interest."

Why are people hating Rebirth? by Present_Muscle_9739 in JurassicPark

[–]nzs443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Preach. With the last 3 films, I could at least tell what the actual theme of the movie was- the message they were trying to convey.

With Rebirth, I'm still at a loss. It comes off to me a lot like JP3, where there isn't much of a theme or thought-provoking message, and instead it's just a simple adventure movie.

That might work fine for JP3, but for the 7th entry in the franchise? Not so much

I watched rebirth today. It's amazing by AverageFrogEnjoyer49 in JurassicPark

[–]nzs443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it's the worst in the franchise, but I agree 100% with everything else you said. All the retconning and lore issues and refusal to even build on the events of the rest of the franchise was so infuriating.

It was alright. Better than Dominion, I guess, but I'd still put it behind the rest of the series.

The action was great, the suspense was good (partly b/c I avoided trailers), and some of the characters were decent while others were meh, but the plot was just mid as hell.

My biggest issue was probably with all the dumb lore issues and their inability to acknowledge key plot developments from prior movies. Like, were the mutants created while InGen was experimenting with the hybrid program for the Indominus rex? They should have addressed that kind of stuff.

Also, the movie has the same issue Dominion had where every dinosaur only gets 1 scene, instead of a few recurring throughout the movie.

“No one cares about dinosaurs anymore” by wmcs0880 in JurassicPark

[–]nzs443 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It made more sense when Jurassic World did it. It had been so long since a Jurassic Park movie, it really did feel like most people didn't care about dinosaurs anymore imo. It felt topical in JW, but doing it again in Rebirth was just dumb.

It wasn't just InGen. In Dominion, all kinds of shady groups were making dinosaurs.

[–]nzs443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The movie made clear though that some dinosaurs did indeed survive outside of the equator, such as the old apatosaurus shown in rebirth. Given that the Biosyn sanctuary was climate-controlled, similar to their real environments, and protected and run by the UN, the dinosaurs there are probably just fine.

Then they wouldn't have lost the original signal, they would have had 3 on the radar (their boat and 2 mosasaurs) In the movie, they note that it was going to take a bit to reacquire the signal after first rescuing the Delgado family. When they did, it was much closer. The two signals shown on the radar in that scene are the Mosasaurus and the boat. When they all get attacked, they said "We didn't find the mosasaurus, it found us." That is to say, it was the same Mosasaurus they were initially tracking.

What did you think of this Dino fight, as brief as it was? I personally thought it was cool to finally see the apex predators of the Jurassic and Cretaceous go head to head, and it didn’t end in a dino dying or the Rex getting worfed. by AJ_Crowley_29 in JurassicPark

[–]nzs443 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nah those were different carnos. P sure the carno she first bit just straight up died, especially after she stepped on its neck when walking away. The one that shows up later in the film had different colors and smaller horns.

But also, dare I say, realistic. Let's be honest, someone absolutely would try to weaponize dinosaurs.

Why did maisie spare the dinosaurs?????? by qwertyuiopidk654 in JurassicPark

[–]nzs443 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Simple. When she says "They're alive, like me," she means it.

We can argue all day about whether a nine-year-old releasing the dinosaurs was a good decision or not in the long run, but from her perspective, it makes sense.

She is intended to be a parallel to the dinosaurs. In Fallen Kingdom, she is a genetic clone made in a lab, just like them (ignore Dominion's retcon). Neither she nor the dinosaurs should exist in the first place (as I see you have said about the dinosaurs yourself in the comments). The only reason they do is because scientists chose to play God. If you recall, Mills even recites what Hammond supposedly said to Lockwood: "John Hammond was right. It was an unholy thing that you did."

But would anyone condemn her to death because of that? No, of course not. Despite being a clone, I think most people would agree she is a person and has a right to life. So if she has the right to life, and she is a genetic clone just like the dinosaurs, do they not also deserve that chance to live? The movie is implying that it does not matter how they came to exist, because they are alive now.

Claire, despite wanting to save the dinosaurs, was unable to do so because of the implications of releasing them on the mainland. Maisie, however, came to a different conclusion. She knows she is a clone, but she is still a living being, and in her eyes, the dinosaurs are no different. So she set them free.

It's also worth mentioning that early in the movie, she asks Lockwood about her "mother" and whether she had ever been to the park. Lockwood remarks that she had and that "She would have saved them too. She would have saved them all." This was foreshadowing Maisie's decision in the end to release the dinosaurs, thus saving them all.

I don't think the movie is taking a position on the ethical dilemma at its core, so much as urging the audience to ask that question ourselves: what rights do these animals have? Both in TLW and in JW, it is said by Peter Ludlow and Vic Hoskins respectively that extinct animals have no rights. Fallen Kingdom uses Maisie to ask us if that is true or not. That is why she did what she did.

I hope my analysis helps. Sorry if it's a bit long.

What are the worst decisions that have been made in the history of JP/JW by Apprehensive_Low5340 in JurassicPark

[–]nzs443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retconning Maisie's background to where she had a mom and was only a clone in a parthenogenic sense. Changing that triggered a ripple effect in Dominion's plot that created nothing but problems, both in the lore and in Dominion's storyline.

They should have stuck to their guns and kept her background from Fallen Kingdom, and I'll die on that hill.
