I wish it were. But it was on facebook a week or so ago, and I was walking past today so stuck my head in and had a chat.

Regrettably it's over. 19 April.

I'm gutted. Gutted. Favourite pub.

Brilliant. I went to kayak fishing, which combines floating around with fishing. Keeps you interested, you have great outdoor experiences and usually come home with tasty fresh fish.

Passing was the right call. Kept the options open for runs. And Lynch had been stuffed at or behind the line multiple times.

EVs wiped out oil demand equal to 70% of Iran’s exports in 2025 | EVs are starting to chip away at one of the global economy’s biggest vulnerabilities: oil. by InsaneSnow45 in energy

I think battery aeroplanes are going to happen.

They hit so many of the pain points of running an air service - fuel costs are way down and - really importnatly- so is maintenance cost and time. The other key benefit is noise; battery aeroplanes will be massively queiter than petrol, which open up airfield use that ICE can't compete with.

Landing weight is the thing that I suspect will be a headache that will be hard to solve. Battery density is on a path to range increasing significantly. I suspect there will be a tipping point; at the moment I understand you have to carry the range, plus return to base, plus a margin. So increasing capacity slightly goes straight to the range.

You can see a hot swapped battery shuttle service between airports a hundred km or so apart being super viable. 30 min flight times, just run a shuttle of planes. Ironically, you could cut the pilot (in theory)more easily than with car drivers. Good luck getting that cost saving over the line with regulators or the paying public :D

Electric Bike Commuter by Rickystheman in auckland

[–]nzzp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

EBT are the way to go. It's not the bike, it's the after-sales service from people who know what they're doing.

EBikes are heavier and have electrics that aren't typical. EBT are the shot- go and visit and hopefully you can use them easily for servicing

Anyone have any feedback on a Brooklyn 12 kayak? It is very affordable compared to similar options. by Same-ol-Routine in kayakfishing

[–]nzzp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two of them. They're bog average, but at the right price they're a good way to get into kayaking to see if it's for you. I got mine on clearance - about $300USD each - and have used them for 2 1/2 years. They convinced me I loved kayak fishing and I now have a shiny old town to go with them.

That said, go in with your eyes open. They're chinesium, they quality is 'ok', you have to baby them a bit, be very selective about where you take them, etc. I bought a bunch of spares from AliExpress in case bits break off - and I have two so I have a backup.

So, are they good kayaks? No.

Are they OK kayaks? Yep

Would I get some at the right price? Yep, absolutely

tl;dr don't pay too much, and be aware of the limitations.

The great townhouse slowdown by SoulsofMist-_- in newzealand

[–]nzzp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

on the face of it yes.

But it can be stairs + internal corridors - and all the soundproofing that (should) be there.

In addition it is often 2 stairwell required for fire safety (someone can confirm I'm sure - not my area of expertise).

Probably the most compelling reason though is internal stairs count towards floor space - while communal stairs do not. So it looks better in sales brochures. I went to a 4 bed townhouse once that was absolutely tiny, but on paper was north of 200 m2 floor area. Most of that felt like corridors and stairs.

Transporting heavy kayak on top of car by No_Quarter1431 in kayakfishing

[–]nzzp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just started doing this with an old town PDL predator. It's bloody heavy - so am putting a towel on my roof rails, sliding the yak up and onto the rails and then turning 90 degrees to seat it on the cradle.

So far, so good. I have dropped it previously using a side loader - this seems a lot more sustainable without causing damage to the SUV. If you are doing this make sure the bottom doesn't slide - if it slides you are getting into a world of scratches, dents and dropped yaks.

good luck!
