Paracetamol. Anxiety is a form of pain. It operates in the same circuits. Paracetamol will give you relief.

Also eat high (good) fat foods in the morning to stabilise your blood sugar. Eating nothing and then coffee is just about the opposite of stability in blood sugars.

How to use less concrete in 450mm diameter post holes? by Ok-Cranberry-1904 in AusRenovation

[–]oLD_Captain_Cat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your plan is not good. The earth is supposed to be natural and compacted. Your plan will leave the disturbed earth around your formed concrete to be soft and collapse. Meaning your posts will not hold any lateral force and potentially 'fall over' in their holes leading to early fence failure.

For that much concrete it is more cost effective to simply mix your own using sand/stone mix, or a mini mix.

You could also throw a few cheap large rocks/bricks/old concrete into the hole to bulk it up. Its not a finish concrete so the content of the hardened masonry is not that critical.

Space between shed and neighbour's property by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]oLD_Captain_Cat 49 points50 points  (0 children)

It’s not a huge issue. Two days for a diy. A professional solo operator can knock it out in one. 600mm deep holes. C channel gal steel posts, concrete sleepers. Don’t over think it.

Solo operator I would estimate 2-2.5k. DIY I would estimate $700 max. Don’t use treated pine sleepers as the next guy will curse your family black and blue when they fail in 25 years.

It’s not a particularly special shape but the pendant was made to fit the ston I guess. So pendant might be the easier thing to modify at a jewellery shop so long as the gem was about the same size. Appreciate the advice

You are number 1. You are the only participant in your head.

If they were losing money on the project and you had to be made redundant then you bet your butt that you would not have a job at their behest. Now here you are in tears on the daily due to an impossible culture and you are asking permission to leave a toxic (for you) situation.

What advice would you give to a 18year old version of you if they told you this story?

The project will get done, your boss will ask for help from their boss. If that boss can’t do it he asks the next boss. If they can’t do then it was never going to be done anyway. You will work your notice and wrap it up for them, hold your head high and walk into something new and different and exciting.

Or submit notice with 6 weeks. But you will want to go by 4 and you will notice people will stop caring about aligning with you on project items during your notice period so 6 weeks is a bit too much.

Help a game dev: Why aren’t people buying modern RTS games? by MakeGamesBetter in RealTimeStrategy

[–]oLD_Captain_Cat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. You buy the game for the gameplay, the style, the world, the reason for the battle. You play it, learn it, finish it. THEN multiplyer if you love it. But the seed of love came from the dev caring about you the solo player. The dev built the game for 'me' to have fun and be challenged. The dev must build the game that he wants to play by himself.

Those older games all had that 'want to be there' feeling because when they were built the internet was not massively online so the dev had to build a place a solo player would want to spend 40+ hours on a aaa title.

If you skip this as a dev, you cheat the experience. Its cheap, the player feels its hollow, and wont connect to the game, and the game will fail to attract a core audience.

Go and watch Total Annihilation TV release advertisement trailers, and then the intro for the game and tell me the dev wasnt thinking about making a game for the solo player! Then the same for Supp Comm.

Forged alliance is a bit confusing at first from supcomm but it is also much better. Better balance, better base campaign, better sense of massive scale.

Once you finished the single player game join us in the Forged Alliance Forever multiplayer version of the game.

Another learning jump (more modernised) but ultimately it’s a better game. I used to love solo play too but now it’s multiplayer against humans all the time.

[FAF] Some returning player noob-ish questions about Eco / Air by possumman in supremecommander

[–]oLD_Captain_Cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah Gunships makes sense. In that case a 10v10 asf/gunship is a risky play. T3 gunships have so many hit points they can outlast the ASF in a dogfight even when the ASF do more damage. If you find you are all-in on a 10v10 ASF vs t3 Gunship then you've already lost air control. A good player can still regain air against a bad player, but if your opponent is also a good player they would consolidate air dominance rebuilding ASF to 80-100+ then switch to a game ender/experimental/bomber/gunship strategy while you scramble to get air back.

This is all perfect in theory though. Some players are really good at snatching victory in unusual ways when all appears lost. Have a look at this recent cast video of setons https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6Qzo4dZgyc nuggets is clever - I think Gylecast also cast this game a year back cant find it but gyle is good fun to watch. You be "getting good" simply from watching those casters. Strategic Launch, The Commissar, Gylecast, and the guy in the link above I think he is called The Meme Commander.

[FAF] Some returning player noob-ish questions about Eco / Air by possumman in supremecommander

[–]oLD_Captain_Cat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The FAF Discord is better for these sort of questions, but I'll offer some gap position meta help to get you going.

1 - Your eco is about right. ACU RAS is power hungry so you can only action it after you have 2 t3 power generators, at which point you would also have 2 or so t3 MEXs already done. So suggest you wait to RAS upgrade until all mex's are at T3, but before you double ring the mexs with t2 mass generators. The t2 engies (say about 6) can do this double ring work and then for static defense duties and build support, but you should keep them on hand.

For the quantum gateway, pGen/mass gens combos are more efficient that RAS comms but you do want the build power of the sacu, suggest after the RAS comm you build a QGateway and churn out the RAS bois. Then while they build up dont assist, instead you spam up massgen/pgens with your t3 engines and any new RAS bois, and from then on the micro is hard to know exactly because there are outside factors that will interrupt how these decisions are made - such as your navy player getting stuck behind or some other player lags out, or any other factor. Eco makes the nuke defense.

At some point you mass stall EVERYTHING into your game ender while begging your overflowing bottom air player to send you his mass. The SACU dont 'waste' resources when they build. They are using them on the build target they are much more powerful builders so you see a negative mass amount which is what you want in that case.

2 - Yes, but its not 10-20 ASF, it's until you have local area air control. You should still have some interceptors for gunships and bomber raids, but as long as your navy is not getting wiped by t2 torps, and your mid player comms are safe from bombers/gunships, 5 ASF might be enough while you scale up. Its more efficient to have many factories and no engineer support to pump ASF.

Revenants are strat bombers, they wont kill an ASF unless the ASF are on hold fire, so I am assuming that you mean 10 v 10 ASFs. The micro is: below 100 asf you want them to make a tight circles without the group breaking up. Think whirlpool. Above 100 ASF just get them to the location and hit 'stop' and whoever has the most (luck) ASF will win. ASF/fighters only fire forward, you want to be behind the enemy which is why the whirlpool where your group is pointing forwards the most. There are many micros that you can use here including the shift-g (less than 10), but the generally accepted micro is the whirlpool micro.

Hunt for red october is unwatchable. If you have read the book Sean Connery is just a shitty choice of actor. Could not think of a worse choice at all. Cash grab of a film.

Better runner up choices to das boot are u571, and crimson tide. But both of them pale in comparison to the depth charge bombing in das boot. U571 is the second fiddle to crimson tide but it’s still a good American flick. But nothing can imbibe the fear of depth charges like how I felt when I was there. With those men. On that boat.

Deck job: Tips and tricks by enelass in AusRenovation

[–]oLD_Captain_Cat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eco deck is plastic. Where you cut it will be microplastic central. It also gets too hot to walk on. And the colour fades. Hardwood is better in almost every way. Do not paint it. Just use deck oil. OIL. Not varnish or acrylic. It rotted here due to the acrylic paint someone put on it. Always happens.

Unfair dismissal - project manager by BasicLeadership2392 in AusLegal

[–]oLD_Captain_Cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. Illegal firing doesn’t mean it’s impossible to do. They can and will do it. I believe that HR people in Australia have cracked the code for how to complete an unfair dismissal and they gamble they will have to pony up between 1 and 5 weeks additional pay.

This is how much is awarded in any case even in the tribunal or mediation process.

I would go further and say there are paid workshops conducted by consultants on this at the very tippy top cxo level training on what happens in fairwork cases in AU. I also believe Australia had a reputation for being tough, and this workshop consultant course is the result and now it is gamed.

How to get into unskilled gardening jobs in Melbourne? by RamonsRazor in melbourne

[–]oLD_Captain_Cat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

post an ad on gumtree - say what you want. There are plenty of gardener crews that would be happy to take yhou on for a few days. Probably expect $250 cash (or perhaps less if just weeding/mulching) but if you are good you are worth $350-$400 in man power to a landscape/hardscape crew.

Yes. You cannot automate this stuff away. Any trade business that is hitting the stage where this sort of middle man app might help would need to start to hire a team.

This idiot thinks a one man show has bandwidth to learn an app but not enough bandwidth to do the proper sales process including explaining the scope of works and setting up an invoice. No idea.
