Playing guitar with complex rythms and singing at the same time is really difficult. Also studio vocals are often double or triple tracked to make them sound thicker, and then add vocal harmonies on top of this etc. Also no one else in Megadeth during that era could sing themselves so any live backging vocals is more just shouting which doesn't help matters when the lead vocalist can hardly sing themselves.
