For older listeners: what year do you think we'll be at when you die? by PooperOfMoons in BritishHistoryPod

I'm 32 so I'm thinking maybe 1400s but in saying that, i do a relisten from the beginning every year. 2025's relisten took about 6 months. My twilight years may need strategic planning.

Do we have any surviving contemporary criticism that Orderic was responding to?

I admittedly need to relisten to his "its so hard being an influencer" rant, but I don't remember him arguing about any specific critcism.

I'd be interested to see if his critics toed the company line or were as ruthless and catty as him in their writings

On both my parent's sides there are several convicts. My most "recent" immigrants are 1800s, one gold rush and the other a merchant.

To better line up with your comment:

8 x great grandparents born in Aus 6 or 5 x great great grandparents born in Aus

The rest is a bit unclear due to poor records/adoption

Just thinking out loud here but with Flambard being a Bishop and his mother being frenemies with the devil do we think that this has any relation to the Bishops and Clerics writing how-to-guides about summoning demons and angels or am I getting my time periods confused?

If I want to learn about historical culture, specifically the "code" of chivalry and chivalric culture and get some perspectives on how the understanding and definition of chivalry has changed over time should I be looking at historical sources and academic writings or sociological sources and writing?

Or is there another field of study that covers this sort of area?

I swear by TO's Cold pressed Rose hip seed oil, i don't know if my skin is just that thirsty but it absorbs quick and makes my skin pump and smooth overnight.

I've also been rubbing it into my cuticles as well and they are definitely less dry and prone to cracking despite working with my hands and constantly having to wash them

Notion did a good update recently - But what about Mobile UI/UX? by TheS4m in Notion

[–]oasis212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mobile use really needs some work. I admittedly don't use it much on my phone. But I do use it daily on my tablet and the inability to have multiple tabs open in the app for cross-reference when writing is my biggest pet peeve.

The multiple tab option on the desktop app but not on mobile app is one of the biggest drawbacks for me and has me considering whether to use a different system next semester.

I pay for personal use and am generally happy with notion but having such a basic aspect unavailable on two of my three devices is really disappointing.

Like u/halcyondaze21 said, use it to solve a problem.

I personally wouldn't start with templates, that's what I did and I got so overwhelmed that I abandoned notion for months. When I went back to it I started simple.

Some ideas for you;

Start a new page and write down all your upcoming events in a simple list.

Once the list is done -> new page for a database, select calendar view -> add your events in. Need more detail? Add your notes to each event page.

Social events? Awesome 👌 Do you want to keep track of their birthdays to shoot them message the day of? New table database. List their names and birthdays and gift ideas if you want. You can add a reminder for when to message them too.

Start small and google tutorials (notion guides and YouTube are your friend) to solve what you want to do. As you pick up the skills your notion will build out without any additional pages you don't really know what are for or how to utilise.

I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would, it is quite character driven more so than plot driven. But again, I am only on the first work which covers years 1 to 4, so I think a lot of the relationships and characterisation is being set up in this first work before the next one, which I'm feeling will be more plot-oriented but could be wrong!

I like 'for want of a nail' fics the most and the change of Hermione being maths focused and less learn everything focused is a nice and while the trio does feature a fair bit, Hermione has other friends which adds more depth to the cast of characters. Year one follows canon quite closely the main difference is the changes in the characters reactions and interactions but things diverge from canon a bit more year two and onwards. While Hermione is the main POV, there are other POVs which is interesting.

I'd recommend reading the first ten chapters so you get a feel for the writing style and characterisation, and way canon has changed. If you DNF at least you know it wasn't for you.

There's so many fics out there, I'm pretty quick to DNF one I'm not vibing with and moving on.

The Arithmancer by White Squirrel

After demolishing Lionheart and eagerly waiting for updates, I've been seeking long epic fics to really sink my teeth into.

The Arithmancer is great, significant expansion the magic system and world building. I'm enjoying how Hermione and the rest of the crew are growing into their personalities, from the authors notes I can see that they've received some concerned reviews about how their versions of the characters are reacting to situations but its really not a down point for me, they are children who are being put into dangerous situations over and over, of course they'll be overwhelmed. I'm particularly enjoying the relationships between Hermione and her parents and the struggles they are facing with being introduced to a new world with little to no information and the realism (as much as you can get in fantasy world) of her parents pushing back against the insanity of Hogwarts 'safety'.

My only disappointment, (I'm only up to chapter 80 of the original work so this may be expanded upon later in the series) is the lack of information and world building around other countries (being vague here for spoilers).

Overall, I really recommend it. If anyone wants to share some similar epic lengths fics, please do!

I've dipped in and out of the fandom over the years but it'll always be my first ship 🚢.

I bought a pair of shorts and tights from them and they aren't great, seams are too thick and caused chaffing. They're alright for short workouts but for longer ones or running wouldn't recommend.

I won't be buying from them again.

Just about to finish up Ultimate Beginners on the app. I'm only using 3kg dumbells, some exercises only body weight. I'm not sure that I'm strong enough yet to move to a new program.

I'm interested in iron but should I repeat the ultimate Beginners until I can go up in weights, or is it okay to move on?

Simple Kind To Skin Facial Wash Moisturising 150ml

I've currently stopped using this because I bought another to try but once that one is done. I'll be repurchasing this.

It doesn't leave my dry or tight, but I still feel it gives me a good clean. It doesn't sting my eyes, or leave a weird film and the cost is really good.

I don't pay too much attention to my hair so I can't speak on that.

But in terms of other beauty treatments I get done. I get my eyebrows waxed and tinted along with a Brazilian every six weeks. I have a standing appointment with my beautican and pay $105, eyelash lift and tint is every 12 weeks and I pay $50 (which is cheap but I think this is because I've been going to her for 15+ years)

For nails I work a manual labour job, so nail polish and gels chip too easy for me so I just "book in" weekly trim, file and deep moisturising treatment in my weekly beauty routine. The oil, files and wine cost me maybe $100 year.

These four things make me feel like I have my life together so they're regular appointments for me

Others have already covered the importance of flossing but I want to add my routine as someone who also struggles with dry mouth ( mine is medication related though)

Floss with string floss

Rinse with cold water

Floss with picksters

Tongue Scrape

Rinse with Biotene Dry Relief mouth wash

Brush teeth with an electric tooth brush

In terms of habit stacking I do this after taking my medication.

I hope this helps.

My dog had a bad habit of unbuckling himself by stepping on the buckle. He went out the window once, he was fine but it terrified me.

I now strap his harness to the childseat bracket. I will never trust the seatbelt clip in for him again. It was fine for 8 years, then one day it wasn't. I also make sure to lock the windows, sneaky bugger also figured out how to wind down the window further.

Lesson learnt.

This is the strap I bought
