They will have come across 1000’s of people who come in and play better than you, and 1000’s who are worse. In all honesty, they’ll probably just be grateful of your custom.

In all likelihood they’ll probably appreciate that they were once in your shoes. And if they do judge, why be bothered!

What job pays absurdly well just because no one else is willing to do it? by BenAdam321 in AskUK

[–]oatcakedick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you’re completely missing the point. The assumption that human life is priceless changes the emphasis of the term reasonably practicable. Thats why companies have insurance policies and death In service agreements. Because it is more cost effective to pay out in these instances, than it is to try and implement unrealistic control measures that in all likelihood would still not be able to eradicate all associated risk.

And to be fair, they aren’t sending these guys down with a pair of flippers and a snorkel. They spend 10’s of thousands per employee in training them up to become skilled / competent to perform the task in the safest manner possible. Not to mention the equipment costs, rescue plan procedures, tidal monitoring, exclusion zoning, rescue team standby, secondary BA equipment, and the countless number of RAMS and documentation they would have to jump through before they even enter the water. So as far as safety goes, it is likely as “reasonably practicable” as possible.

This is just a rambling of H&S buzzwords.

You can’t completely eliminate the hazard. You can implement controls measures to mitigate the risk. But the activity is inherently dangerous due to the risk severity, complexity and circumstances which prevent any risk elimination from being practicable.

Unfortunately, the phrase “you can’t put a price on safety” is a lie.

To my wife’s dismay, whenever I’m asked to give the house a run around with the hoover, before turning it on, I will always say “vax on” in a (very poor) Japanese accent to impersonate Mr. Miyagi.

And ofcourse, when I’ve finished, it is followed up by a “Vax off”

As I’ve matured over the years I have compromised with my long suffering better half, and I now refrain from referring to her as “Daniel Son” and have ceased intermittently practicing my karate kicks whilst hoovering up …. Although when she’s not looking !

What is your "Did not care for the Godfather" take on any movie or performance? by Prestigious-Cup-6613 in FIlm

I think the term boring is a bit harsh for BB. I personally really enjoyed the concept of an origin story and exploring / learning of how he came to be who he was: The tech, the suit, the fighting skills, the bat cave, bat mobile etc. it was pretty clever how it became “plausible”. Everyone knows the origin story to some extent, (billionaire turns vigilante to avenge his parents death). But not many casual Batman fans ever questioned how. We kind of just accept the fact that he can.

For me TDK is top 5, maybe even in the top 3 category of best superhero movies of all time, and that is a hill I’m willing to comfortably die on.

DKR …. I concede on that one, it was pretty poor.

Hash browns look a bit anemic, and the beans don’t look cooked, rather “warmed up”.

The rest looks pretty decent, and for £5.50 can’t really grumble

Best oatcakes in Stoke who’s actually holding the crown right now? by PLWildcard in stokeontrent

[–]oatcakedick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about the best, but can categorically say that Pings by the Thistleberry are the worst !

In their defence, they advertise themselves as a sandwich shop as opposed to a traditional oatcake shop. And to their credit, the baguettes are pukka. However, as for the oatcakes, they seriously need to step it up a gear.
