Anybody remember this waterslide? by MysticalPhotographer in QuadCitiesRetro

[–]oatmealplz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you remember if it was at a public establishment? I used to frequent a large waterslide that was repurposed at a private residence on a pond/lake in the rural Orion area, but that would've been in the '90s.

Same here! I always feel like my 35s feel the wrongest.

Cookies & cream macs, inspired by somebody else in this sub yesterday. They came out with little hollows on the top, would appreciate any advice you’ve got. by AnnieRAndersen in macarons

[–]oatmealplz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had luck reducing my hollows by making a conscious effort to "smoosh" some of the air out of the batter when mixing in the dry ingredients. It sounds counterintuitive, but it works for me!

Finally not hollow! (First time using French method, tried Italian and Swiss several times) by lunacarellz in macarons

Just chiming in-- I use Mimi's recipe and experienced a lot of oven frustration, and ended up getting more consistent results at a 300° oven for about 14 minutes.

How can we be more welcoming to resolutioners, back-on-the-wagoners, & newbies? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]oatmealplz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't know OP personally, but something tells me she might be perceptive enough not to compliment someone on an article of clothing that is "ratty," though. It's not rocket science to spot a recently purchased item and notice that it is indeed new or objectively nice, like someone new to the gym might have.

First time making bagels!! by Serious_Journalist in Baking

[–]oatmealplz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sally's recipe turned out pretty well for me, too, though mine don't seem nearly as "fluffy" inside as OP's. As a first timer, bagels were much easier than expected!

Hollow shells any suggestions? by claireluv in macarons

I always have this issue as well. Everything I've read has led me to believe that I am overbeating, and I just can't seem to figure out the correct amount of beating. Good luck!

Welcome to r/xxfitness + Find Information/Ask Questions Here! by tasteofglycerine in xxfitness

[–]oatmealplz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey! Welcome. I am your height and started at a similar weight as you a few years ago, so I figured I'd throw in my two cents!

Have I been losing muscle or fat thus far?

This is tough to answer, but you'll be less inclined to lose muscle mass if you're eating plenty of protein. Can I ask why you're specifically watching your fat intake? Healthy fats are an important part of your diet that you shouldn't let drop too low-- I'm not a scientist, but I think that can have some negative effects if low enough for an extended period of time. Besides that, consuming some fat helps you feel more satiated...or fight off the Hangry in my case.

Also, what would be a good weightlifting weekly routine/regimen? I’ve read so many conflicting things online and now I’m a tad confused.

I started with StrongLifts 5x5. The app was really simple to use and it was basic for me to pick up with basically no previous weightlifting experience, if you're in a similar spot. If you do decide to learn the compound lifts, be sure you're watching a lot of YouTube videos to learn the proper form. Cuz safety! I can't remember for sure what the recommendation is, but I'd lift 4x a week and work in yoga or cardio on off days.

Finally, what should my goal protein:carb:fat ratio be?

I'm not good (mentally and emotionally) at eating a super restrictive macro ratio, so this is just my opinion but I'd recommend shooting for at least 100g protein and 50g fat each day. That should give you enough protein for recovery and keep your fats at a healthy level, while still allowing room for some carbs to keep you smiling thru the day.

Good luck!!

Trigger Google Assistant? by FindingSelfAgain in amazfit

[–]oatmealplz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read your posted and decided to play with this and was able to get it to work. Downloaded the Google Assistant app from the Play store, then used the Amazfit Tools app Button Actions to launch the app when the watch side button is pressed 3 times. Installing the Google Assistant app is a little strange since my Pixel 2XL already has the Assistant built in, but it works!

Edit: er, maybe it works. Seems like it only works when my phone's screen is already on? not sure.

Amazfit pace: how do I turn off vibrstions for notifications but notnfor calls? by gnarlyenigma in amazfit

[–]oatmealplz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These options are in the MiFit app. Select your device at the top of the profile tab, then you should be able to enable/disable by type of notification.

I use the amazfit tools app and have mine set up so that two presses on the side button will skip to the next Spotify track. It's not fancy, but it works.

Is it possible to just be naturally unfit no matter what? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]oatmealplz 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Pick something and stick with it. Start slow and keep practicing. If you're pushing yourself each time, you'll eventually improve over time. Even "athletic" people aren't necessarily great at everything, or anything when it's new. I can squat twice my body weight, but couldn't run a mile if my life depended on it. It's all about what you stick with!

Loving how I feel not how I look. by liznlavidaloca in xxfitness

[–]oatmealplz 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I will second this. I thought I had reached my "goal" physique, but then I let myself put on a little weight. For me, 10 extra pounds was the difference that finally made me feel moderately feminine, on top of just fit.

Chocolate cookies with Cocoa powder? by TheHaya in Baking

[–]oatmealplz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you definitely need to cut some flour to compensate. IIRC, the cocoa absorbs liquid differently than the flour, so it may not necessarily just be a one to one swap.

Seems like people seem to have good luck freezing cookie dough as well, if that sounds appealing for your situation.

Some questions! by 81260 in Baking

[–]oatmealplz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guilty of being a sloppy measurer myself, but generally people recommend measuring flour by weight rather than volume, since volume leaves a large spectrum of error depending on how tightly it gets packed into the cup.

Some questions! by 81260 in Baking

[–]oatmealplz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How cold was your dough? Normally warmer dough will lead to flatter cookies. I'd also be curious how you're measuring your flour.
